If the prices were lower, this would be a solid dinner spot. Trendy, dark, sleek 'n' chic decor, soft, pulsing lounge music, friendly staff, and delicious food–always a winning combination.
We started with the Fried Calamari (well peppers, arugula and picholine olive tapenade), which was quite crisp and tasty. The Arctic Char with radishes, watercress and chimichurri was the favorite of the entrees, but the Tres Leches Cake was disappointing for dessert. All in all, not bad at all, just not quite worth the price tag.
Had a fabulous fixe prix three course lunch at the Americano. Lovely setting with very good service. Had an amazing chicken dish which looked like a vegetarian pizza and steak with lovely salsa verde. Would go again!
This is a calm, well lit place for business meetings.
It's in a hotel lobby and that may seem like a problem, but they've done a good job of making it more of a public restaurant space than a hotel lobby. One almost doesn't even notice.
The service is fine. One thing that could improve is their menu between meals, which is a bit sparse and too focused on alcohol.
Went here for restaurant week. Surprisingly I loved this place! The restaurant is really cute, especially the outside patio. Great place for a date and probably brunch as well. For our pre fixe, I had the watermelon salad and boy did I enjoy this! It was so refreshing, I need to have this everyday during summer! Usually chicken can be difficult, but they made this chicken very well. Tasty, not dry at all. As for dessert I had the chocolate flan, but I enjoyed my friends sorbet much more!
Came here this past Tuesday night for dinner with my best friend for Restaurant Week. I had been to the rooftop bar a few years ago and remembered it as very chic and trendy and my memory did not fail me. You can easily see this place swarmed with fabulous people after dark, perching on the white cushioned chairs up front or packed into the long patio tables out back. It's spacious for a new york restaurant, where you don't risk jabbing elbows with your neighbor with a moderate noise level for our dinner and a lounge music playlist softly in the background.
For our starters we had the avocado toast and calamari. The toast had a great balance of flavor from peppery greens and fresh veggies to cut through the creaminess of the avocado. The calamari was certainly no average pub fare, with a nicely seasoned breaded that didn't overwhelm the seafood. For our mains, she picked the flank steak while I had the orecchiette with pesto & ricotta. These we didn't share, but her steak looked perfectly cooked and beautifully juicy and pink on the inside, while my pasta was a little too al dente for my taste, but the pesto was delicious and wonderfully complemented by the ricotta. For dessert she had the tres leches and I had the cocoa crumble. The ice cream was a little icy, but the mouse was perfect with bits of mocha or coffee for added texture. The service was great and attentive. Our water was always filled and she checked in with us several times, although it took us a bit to flag someone down for our check.
A great evening date spot. Regular menu is under $30 per entree so it's attainable even during the rest of the year. Beautiful spot, great food. Worthy of adding to the rotation. Docked a star for ONE BATHROOM for the entire place. Makes it a little difficult to consider this place for evening festivities, especially once you break the seal.
The Rooftop seating area of The Americano offered a fresh and modern vibe, like something you would expect to find in Miami. However, its view of the Hudson was obscured; the service was pretentious, and the rooftop pool limited the space to gather with your cocktails. So, while the spot was certainly nice, there were definitely better rooftop options in the city.
We dropped by on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon to grab a few drinks, after seeing beautiful photos of their restaurant and rooftop space.
The Americano Hotel, although a hotel, has a restaurant and rooftop space on the 6th floor. It is located in the heart of Chelsea, surrounded by art galleries and exhibits, so it is a great neighborhood find. You can also pop into The Heath and Gallow Green afterwards, since they are all on the same block between 10 and 11 Avenue.
The restaurant is on the ground floor and evokes a Zen-like feeling with its very Scandinavian-inspired décor and high ceilings. Unfortunately, we opted to go straight to their 6th floor rooftop so I cannot vouch one way or another for their food. It was completely empty though.
We took the very slow elevators upstairs and found ourselves amidst a young group of barely-legal-to-drink-but-already-drunk kids. The electronic music was loud and most of the waitresses were bra-less, in attempt to push the free-the-nipple movement.
We were fortunate enough to get a table, because 10-15 minutes after we were seated, bigger parties of thirsty patrons started rolling in. There are enough tables to seat 50 people, I'd say. And there are two separate bars on both sides of the rooftop. But once all the seats were taken, most people just stood around with drinks in their hands.
Just up a short flight of stairs, there is another section dedicated for the 'pool'.
THIS IS NOT A POOL. IT IS A GLORIFIED BATH TUB.
It's impossible for anyone taller than 5 feet to be able to float in this 'pool'. However, this did not stop girls from stripping down to their bikinis and wetting their hair. I couldn't believe what I was seeing- people were literally sitting/laying on top of each other, just hoping to get a big, fat toe into the water, probably ridden of bacteria and dead bugs.
Drinks are not cheap, considering the not-so-glamourous ambiance.
I'd recommend this spot for the under-25 crowd.
We were here with my girlfriend for a prefix menu. I can't remember much about what the dish was but the things I remember clearly is that it feels like a high standard restaurants from the display to menu to dish. We enjoyed it. Will see what other opinions are besides those.
