Perfectly acceptable and quite cheap bagel sandwiches. Its possible my expectations for my first bagel in NYC were too high, but I don't think Bagel Factory is as good as quite a few bagel places in my home town. Still, at $3 for an egg sandwich, I can't complain that much.
Holy schmoly, whatta smashing bagel shop! With a killer selection of bagels, flagels, schmagels and schmears* The Bagel Factory is sure to assemble several things to your liking in fantastical portions. Several cream cheese selections to be gawked at and regretted later at the scale, including variations of tofu cream cheese, jalapeno cheddar and more!
They also have amazing sandwiches including an eggs, pastrami and cheese sandwich on a bagel (which was my guilty non-kosher pleasure when I was an omnivore and now it's more of a wet dream I have from time to time as a vegetarian…)
The staff is probably the greatest and most upbeat group of guys you'll come across (shout out to my man in the Ed Hardy hat serving up these hot toasted halo's of doughboy heaven and the man that keeps it all together, Mohammed!)

Pros:
* Solid bagels with just the right amount of chewy center and crispy crust
* Excellent coffee (I'm a coffee snob, so this means something).
* Friendly staff that always greet you with a smile.
* Great location right in south slope/greenwood heights.
* Small interior with a few tables to sit and dine in or an option to sit at the street-facing window bar.
* Decently priced fare.
Cons:
* The bacon is weird. It's doesn't undulate the way bacon normally does. It's kind of just, flat. It still tastes good, just not crispy.
* Iced coffee here is hit or miss, sometimes it's delicious and sometimes it's watery. The hot coffee though is always on point (see Pro Numero Dos).
The Bagel Factory isn't my #1 bagel joint in the area, but it's a damn good back-up. It's also the closest bagel source to my apartment, if only by a hair. But, hey, when you're hungover trekking outdoors for some morning-after sustenance, every hair counts.
The bagels here are medium-to-large in size, a bit flatter and wider in shape, toast well, typically stay fresh thru the standard 24-hour hardening deadline, and other than perhaps lacking a little depth in the taste department, is your regularly satisfying Brooklyn bagel. My biggest gripe used to be that their Everything wasn't fully coated with seeds and such, but rather a sprinkling, which was a pro for those who don't like a garlic-onion breath all day, and a con for shameless slobs such as myself. I'm happy to report they've since stepped up the seed-per-bagel ratio, so I'm back to being the latter these days.
The staff is a friendly lot. I say this knowing that when my wife goes in alone, they call her "princess" and more or less openly hit on her. Naturally, if we walk by and we're together, I send her through the doors while I wait outside, since I'm not above selling her out for superior bagel service and maybe an extra in the bag now and again. #couplegoals?
Globally speaking, The Bagel Factory makes a pretty great bagel. On a local level, this joint isn't gonna win any Best Bagel in Brooklyn awards, but it's still solid, and I'm still a semi-regular. That just speaks to how spoiled we are 'round these parts, and The Bagel Factory only helps perpetuate the city's stellar bagel reputation.
So I was on my way to my favorite pizza place (Luigis) when I sadly realized they aren't open Sundays. I was starving so on my way back home I popped into this place. My everything bagel and everything cream cheese was very ho hum. I ate it but I feel like eating an average bagel in NYC is a travesty. I did manage to have a pretty good cupcake with mini m&ms on it (imported from a bakery). However, next time, I will go the extra blocks to go to the Bagel Pub or Bagel Hole.
I don't have any idea how I haven't written a review for this place yet. I lived around the corner from here years ago. My roommate was the first one to discovery its existence and said one day when I was probably dying from heat exhaustion in the summer: "THESE ARE THE BEST BAGELS EVER, YOU MUST EAT THESE!" Or something to that extent. So quickly it became a weekend tradition for us to come here and get them. They also remembered me somehow even after I moved away. So Kudos to the super friendly staff. Usually I opt for the egg bagel. Sometimes I will be adventurous and get garlic or cinnamon raisin. I went here a month or two ago while on one of my 'you're starting to get fat maybe you should go on a 50 block walk crawl' and ended up popping in. Oh, how detrimental. Whatever. They have new flavors of cream cheese than they used to have! Flails arms! Flavors ranging from blueberry, strawberry, pumpkin to your traditional scallion, lox spread, vegetable, tofu blends, and then BACON CREAM CHEESE that tastes so smokey and scrumptious, as well as their jalapeno cheddar. I've had several. I think I noticed a pecan or walnut cinnamon blend of some kind even when I went in and wish I recorded photographic evidence of everything. I also wish this place was open late at night. The actual bagel though is where the magic happens. They're different tasting. Both chewy and firm, a little crisp on the outer edges. A little less soft than Windsor Terrace's but way WAY more flavorful. There's magic in their dough that brings tears to the corners of my eyes. This is how the best bagels in the world should taste. I've been a fan for years and can honestly say that Bagel Factory is in my top three of bagel places in all of New York and is highly underrated.
Mediocre food. One thing I've gotten here that I absolutely hated was the bacon and egg. I think it's turkey bacon which I wasn't expecting and it had a weird after taste. I will never again order that. The bagels are typical. I feel it's a little pricey, if I'm spending that much I would rather go elsewhere.
I went here last week and l o v e d it. I'm a big bagel fan, but this place has bagel breakfast sandwiches to DIE for. I ordered the egg, bacon, and cheese bagel with a cup of just some regular, good ole coffee. The price was wonderful: I bought two of the sandwiches, a medium sized cup of coffee, and a large iced coffee and it was all roughly $13. It's also very clean here and the staff is very kind! I can't wait to go back soon!
