The Brazen Fox Kitchen & Craft Beer

“I highly recommend the Bone Marrow Burger, their signature dish (and well deserving of that title).”

“Given my disdain for the Penny Farthing and Linen Hall, we saw that the Brazen Fox had just opened and they had some random dinner deals.”

“I ended up choosing the Forager's burger, and it was juicy, cooked as asked, and came piled with more fries and mushrooms than I knew what to do with.”

  1. Had a beer here, pretty reasonably priced. Decent selection of beer, but by no means great. Also ate some dollar oysters (min order 6), which was tasty enough. Pretty big area, and they have two floors. I can imagine this would be a cool place for happy hour or watching a big sports game.

  2. This place stood out for a friend and I when I we walked past it so we decided to check it out. The menu on the outside said best burgers in the city so we expected the rest of the food to be just as good but we were surprisingly disappointed.

My friend got the turkey sliders and she hated them. They had a good presentation, but I tried a bite and it had no flavor whatsoever, too greasy.
I got a lamb burger with cucumbers and the white sauce, but I also was didn't enjoy it too much. The lamb taste was wayyy too strong for me to enjoy. I liked the cucumbers and sauce on it but the meat flavor was too overpowering. And this is coming from someone that eats lamb on the regular.

I did love the sweet potato fries though. They were crunchy and had the right amount of salt.

The atmosphere was fun for a Friday night so I might stop by in for a drink or two, but skip out on the meals.

  3. I've been to Brazen Fox a couple of times for drinks, but recently I braved the beautiful March weather to go for something I was hoping would be really special: the bone marrow burger.  I'm continually on a search for the best burgers of NYC, so I had to do it.

The place on a Thursday night is still quite busy, and I waited 20 minutes for a table for 2.  That said, the bar area was not as crowded as I've seen it on weekend nights, so maybe that's the secret.  It was still a bit loud, and I had to yell a little to be heard, and there were people standing pretty close to the table since we were near the bar.
I got the Dogfish 90 minute IPA, which is so smooth!  If you get there in time in the week, they also have happy hour, so we got $2 off the beers.

It was time to order the burger.  The server recommended getting it medium rare, but I opted for medium.  Pro tip: Always order burgers a little more rare than you think you want, because they always come out a little more well done, so I should have gone for medium rare for top levels of juiciness.  That said, my first bite was excellent because of the incredible flavor of the meat.  I have not tasted a burger with that much flavor since I have been in NYC.

It does NOT initially come with cheese.  I would have thought this was a fatal flaw since I must have cheese on all things, but I actually ate it without.  However, next time I will ask them to melt some cheddar on the burger to push it over the top.  The burger comes with a huge amount of fries that are delicious.  I said no one could eat them all, and then I ate them all.

Overall: great burger, fries, and beer. It was pretty expensive, ringing in at $18 for the burger/fries + $1 for cheese.  I definitely will have to wait to grow some more money before coming back.  Cool atmosphere.  It would be nice if they had a quieter room for those of us not watching the game, but it has a nice vibe.

  4. Walking down the street just looking for something to eat (like always) and my friend and I stumbled upon this place. We were struck by the $1 oysters they were offering (EVERYDAY) and we had to come in. I love oysters so much I can eat 100 lbs of them by myself (jk, but really tho thats how much i love them). Our waiter, Dan, was such a cool dude! We requested to try some beers before ordering ourselves one and he helped us out a lot. The beers we ended up getting were yummy (totally forgot their names) and the oysters were delicious. So fresh and so ocean feelin'. Highly recommend.

    +ask for Dan.

  5. Avocado Toast: AMAZING. crispy toast, thick layer of avocado spread with a flavorful sprinkling of pepper and pistachio on top.

Hogs in Blankets: GREAT. The pastry was PERFECT ie. Light and flaky. The sausage was tender and delicious. I really enjoyed this.

Happy Hour: NICE. $2 off draughts. Good deal in the city. 11am-8pm. Who can beat that?

Brussel Sprouts: Sadly this was the lowpoint of the meal. I ADORE brussel sprouts. They tend to be my go to side if available on the menu. These brussel sprouts unfortunately were too sweet. I did not like the maple glaze. The bacon was a nice touch BUT the sprouts themselves were not nearly tender enough.

Overall experience: 4 stars. Awesome atmosphere. Friendly and attentive waiter, who perpetually gave service with a smile.

  6. Stopped by to grab a quick drink before a movie on a Sunday night, so I can't comment on the food, but for the typical "irish pub" type place it's not bad.

They had 24 beers on draft with some decent breweries, which was nice, and our bartender on the upper floor was very nice and attentive for our brief stay. I'm sure it gets plenty crowded, but with a happy hour that goes until 8PM it's not a bad place to grab a quick drink or two if you're in the area.

I'll probably try the $1.50 (or $1 at happy hour) oysters next time, but otherwise the menu didn't seem too appealing.

  7. Who: Gramercy, East Village & Murray Hill locals (Mostly men)

What: Typical pub food. Nothing special or exciting about food options. Lengthy choice of IPAs and a few ciders. Very loud place and crowded to enjoy a meal if you aren't watching a game.

    When: Lunch & Dinner

    Where: 3rd avenue

Why or Why Not: I wasn't too impressed with the service or the food menu. I wouldn't come back unless I was watching a sports game with a bunch of men. We ordered an app and they just threw everything on the table at the same time in an order to get us out faster. Overall, 'ehh' its okay.

  8. I was sad their poutine's gravy has beef in it 🙁
Beers run about $7 each – about 24 on tap
