In my opinion this is the best halal cart around enough said. I have tried the halal guys and they are not even close.
The cart looks so clean and pristine, the guys who run it are friendly and the food is delicious.
Their rice is flavorful, their meats cooked and seasoned well and the sauces are good too. What else can you ask for in a $5 meal.
They have me hooked and I stop by at least once a week.
I highly recommend them to any cart food aficionado.
Casbah has taken what The Halal Guys started and stepped it up a notch. The service was quick and friendly (a rarity in NYC it seems.) We ordered the full platter with a couple extra falafel added in. We weren't really that hungry, but I had to see what all the fuss was about.
Everything was delicious. From the lamb and chicken to the sliced pita and rice, it was all seasoned well and worked well together – all for only about $10! Four of us sat across the street in the park and shared it as a snack.
My brother, who lived in NYC for a couple years, raved about the Halal carts, and now I see what he was talking about!
I had this in cold winter, walking from Museum of Natural History to Time Square. I ended up taking subway because the walk is too long.
I got the mixed platter, good portion and good price. I finished the whole thing myself because I was hungry. I like New York's Halal Cart because it is cheap and generally not bad. If I would ever visit Central park or Museum of Natural History again, I would probably try it.
Food was good. It is a step about a typical street meat place. Only thing that annoyed me is that the menu says it comes with pita but we didn't get any pita. I had to go back to ask for it. They told me they don't just give you anymore and but now only if you ask.
The best part of this cart is the location. There is a little park Across the street with tons of seats.
– combo chicken/lamb
Both were good but the white sauce was very good and the hot sauce was hot which I love!
You want good halal food for a great price? Check this place out!
Wow. I love the halal guys but their price increases over the years have been pretty annoying.
This place on the other hand… you can get chicken or lamb over rice for $5! and i personally like the combo chicken and lamb over rice which is $6! what a steal.
The meats are cooked really well and the chicken is especially impressive. well seasoned and juicy. It also just tastes a lot more clean than the halal guys (but the portion is a little less and their white sauce is not as epic).
but yes… definitely try this place!
I wont be back.
I can't believe people dub this place "the best halal cart in nyc."
Are you kidding? My plate lacked the flavor that I associate with nyc c&r. In fact, I thought they gave very small portions compared to other joints in the city.
Service was friendly and efficient. There was a long line for lunch on a Wednesday and the employees moved everyone along quickly.
After seeing the great reviews, I decided to give this place a shot. I ordered the chicken with everything on it. The price is great at $5 and it is a good portion but the killer for me was that the chicken had a strong cumin taste which I am not fond of. I prefer the chicken at halal guys.
We were in the area and needed a quick meal. We shared the combo platter that had chicken, lamb and falafels. The falafel was not dry at all. The chicken and lamb were diced, good flavor…the red sauce wasn't spicy at all for me.
I'm not a fan of HG at all, they're so overrated. The food at Casbah tasted clean and fresh and not overly seasoned. They have seats right across the street. So convenient.. Cheap and delicious. Would definitely come back in a few weeks.
