  1. In a great location right in the corner of grove st and newark ave feet away from the PATH train.  This place offers a great breakfast sandwich at a fair price.  $4.25  and a decent cup of coffee.  Free wifi and a fabulous rustic decor.

I haven't been here much at night. But it turns into a downtown neighborhood bar with a decent happy hour Monday thru Friday.  $1 PBR 4-5.  And every other hour until 10 pm.  And their bar pizza pies are a good pair with ur alcohol consumption.

There r TVs to watch the games and large windows to see jersey city traffic pass by.  Come here for a great vibe and a wonderful time.

  2. As a bar, the Coffee Shop is worth four stars. It sits on  a busy corner and has lots of windows, so it offers great people watching. The drinks are priced right, too.

As a coffee shop, it's worth two stars. Just as with the Bistro next door, the Coffee shop can't quite get the service and food right. I was there for breakfast this week and the service and food were simply not good.

I approached the front register to order, and not seeing any bagels in the small case, I asked if they had bagels. The guy at the register shrugged and never said a word. I had no idea how to interpret that, so I went ahead and ordered one with cream cheese (and he accepted the order, so thumbs up.)  My dad ordered a croissant with butter.

We took the receipt to the food counter, where a guy was leaning over a bucket of dishwater. He seemed annoyed we interrupted him and barked we should "come back in a minute." Then he started handling our food with his wet hands that he never took time to dry. He gave us a croissant with no butter, and when we asked for the butter, he snapped, "You should have told me." (I pointed out that we had told the guy up front.)  As for my bagel, I have never  had a bagel with less cream cheese. It was a ridiculously small dab of cream cheese; in fact, I got so little, that I ate only half the bagel (since a dry bagel isn't much fun.)

Come here for a drink and enjoy the upbeat atmosphere and street views, but there are much better places within blocks to grab a morning bite than the Coffee Shop.

  3. really fun place here. right outside the grove street path station which is super convenient. lots of choices for food and drink–you can have a bagel and coffee (as you would expect given the name), or, if its that time of day, they have two bars with plenty of beers (some of which, like pabst, are 2 bucks each) and a lot different types of lunch/dinner food. a sushi special menu, tacos, wings and burgers just to list a few. lots of big tvs too. overall a really cost effective and inviting after work option. knocking it down a star because i felt like our tables werent entirely clean, and the mens bathroom was kind of eh (talking broken toilet, doorknob falling off kind of eh).

  4. I haven't been here for a full meal but stopped by a few times for Jets games and karaoke on Sunday's.  Drinks are reasonable …. $18 bucket of Buds, cheap pitchers, pizza and wings.  Crowd has varied from sparse to pretty crowded and most seem like locals.  My friends love coming here … I am a fan.

  5. This business appears to be run by a group of young adults. My family and I arrived for drinks and sat at a table. A nice young lady took our orders and was attentive. We arrived around 6pm. About an hour later we moved to a bigger table because we were ready to order food. As we moved, our waitress was behind the bar so she asked to let her know what we need. W called her over a couple of times and she sent someone else because she seemed to be the only one behind the bar. The other young lady came to our table to ask what we wanted, verbatim, so my cousin first asked for another drink and her reply was "you can walk to the bar and order it yourself." Extremely rude given we didnt know what the waitstaff situation and just overall bad customer service. We hadnt eaten since noon so we went ahead and ordered pizza and wings and left immediately after. This spot has a great location but unfortunately isnt staffed or managed well. Very poor customer service and unprofessional.

  6. Stopped here for a breakfast sandwich and it definitely hit the spot. I think the Kaiser roll was a bit much, as I prefer and am used to just a bagel. The portions of everything else were pretty good and didn't fall apart as I took my bites. I can't say too much about the setting as it was a grab and go, but it looked spacious inside and has outdoor seating. The cashier was friendly and was careful about taking my order. Also I heard that it was one of the few breakfast spots open on Sunday. I'm unsure how true that is, but if so that makes it even more convienient.

  7. Nice setup on this little bar.  I came here on a Friday night and it's more of a bar scene with loud music with a computer DJ.  Nice size bar with tables in the back for small convos.  A small dance floor in the front and a coffee bar in the front.

    I had a decent time.

  8. Got this new app called Frink, a app that gets you a free drink a day in JC/Hoboken for $5/month, and The Coffee Shop is one of the places on the app. I pass by this place practically every day and I've never been inside, so I decided to give it a try. Came here close to 11pm one night. It was pretty packed already. It didn't look that big from the outside, but the place is pretty spacious, a small area for the dance floor and a small bar in the front with a large triangular shaped bar in the back.

A couple of things that turned me off:

    1. Bartender working at the small bar near the front made zero effort to accommodate me. When I asked what free drink I could get, she just shrugged and said she wasn't sure. I asked if she could find out and she said sure and then did nothing.

    2. The triangular shaped bar is weird and is kinda dangerous. The edges can easily hurt someone, especially if you're wasted. Plus, it doesn't allow for maximum space, like a circle or rectangle would.

    3. Music was a bit off at times. I wish they would stick with top 40, I think a lot more people would dance if they did.

    What I did like:

    1. A LOT OF SCREENS. I love watching football (American – sorry, not sorry) at sports bars and I feel like this place would be solid for a game. Will need to come back for that.

    2. Good happy hour deals. The fact that it's also so convenient from the path is also a huge plus.

    3. Shout out to the bartender in the back bar with the thick glasses and buzz-ish cut. He was helpful in answering my questions and actually found out what free drink I could redeem.

This might not be a late night spot for me, but it looks like it can be a go-to for HH or for watching sports. More to come on this review….
