  1. Cute little cafe/coffee shop on 7th Ave in Chelsea.
They serve Le Colombre coffee and have a nice little menu. I couldnt believe how busy it gets in there. The avocado toast was good. I will try it again.

  2. This place is a nice small coffee shop and brunch place that only has six tables that can seat two people each. They don't take reservations and you should note that they get full very quickly from either the brunch crowd or people who do their work at coffee shops. I had a small bite with a friend here on a Saturday afternoon (2:30pm) and noticed that most people were just coming in to get coffee and were not staying.

I had the salmon toast and my friend had an egg sandwich with avocado and we both had coffee. Everything was good and the cozy space makes it nice for conversation. One somewhat awkward thing was that because the tables were so close to each other, eavesdropping on each other's conversations is pretty easy so note that if it bothers you

  3. The kale salad is simple but fantastic. Choose the caesar dressing to steer away from the usual sweet sauce + kale combo. Celery root is a great seasonal ingredient, and the croutons are crunchy but easy to chew. Get the salad with steak which is lean and tender for a complete meal. The brussels sprouts on the other hand was rather flavorless and old. (came in for dinner on Friday at around 6:30)

The place is cute and intimate. The weather is still warm enough for outdoor seating. Our waitress was very professional and friendly.

  4. Laptop only allowed mon-fri open till 12pm. Big reason I don't go here as much anymore.

On weekends it's less of a coffee spot, more a restaurant. Baked goods (Quiche, cake etc) tend to lack in texture and flavor. The lemon cake is consistently dry, they cover in saran wrap and unwrap for the next day. Not really the standard next to some superior bakery cafes in the area. Quiche is underwhelming in flavor and texture.

House made food and coffee fair (La Colombe) on the other hand is consistently good. I love their breakfast egg sausage sandwich that comes with a bed of greens.

Croissants (very good) are only sold on weekdays, not sure why. Perhaps to make more money on brunch crowd.

  5. Rather than being a specialized coffee shop, Commons is more like a brunch place, where it serves a big selection of salad/pastry items, including my all-time favorite avocado toast.

Place was kinda tiny, so would definitely recommend drop by during the week. They carry La Colombe coffee beans, essentially the main reason I stopped by with such a large detour.

Very cosy feeling, made me wanna come and try their food items…hmm probably mushroom toast this time?

  6. I stopped here for a quick lunch after picking my half marthon bib.  It's a nice little coffee place.  They have a good variety of brunch/lunch food on their menu as well.  Seating is limited but the atmosphere is cozy.  I ordered the avocado toast and added smoked salmon for $4 extra.  The avocado flavoring and seasoning is delicious.  They were not cheap with the smoked salmon either.  Definitely come back for it and will try their coffee as well.

  7. Nice food and nice ambience, and friendly servers but our server completely forgot that we had ordered, then forgot 2 entire items in our order. She was a nice person but that didn't help us eat :).

Suggest staying away even though it's a cute place.

  8. The Commons is a REALLY small space but they serve delicious and tasty food with what tasted like high quality ingredients. There are definitely some vegetarian options available. The wait time during lunch can be kinda lengthy even if you want it to-go. Nevertheless, they did warn us that it would take 20 minutes to do a takeout order. We had the time, so we waited.

I had the lentil pate sandwich. I'm not a vegetarian/vegan, but this was delicious. I wish I had gotten the avocado toast thought which seems to be the thing they're known for. Nevertheless, I like that my sandwich came with a side of lightly dressed baby spinach. I also ordered a hot apple cider to drink while waiting. I like that it wasn't too sweet the way that popular chain makes it. I liked it so much that I still thought about going back the next day for another, but didn't get a chance.

If I'm in the area again, I might go back just to do a takeout order. I can't see myself staying in there too long in such a small space.
