  1. When I found out that Lex Grey and her band the Urban Pioneers were playing at Community House my wife and I decided to make an evening of it. We met my wife's brother and sister-in-law there for dinner. The hostess gave us a nice table in the bar area with a view of the band. After a very short wait our waitress Samantha brought over some water and homemade chips and took our drink order. Community House has about a dozen tables in the bar area and a bunch more in the spacious rear dinning rooms.

Sam came by and took our food order. My wife and I ordered the steak sandwiches my brother-in-law had the buffalo chicken sandwich and the sister-in-law had the fish tacos which were salmon. We also ordered the maple grazed Brussel sprouts with bacon.  Seemed like it was taking a long time to get our food, we had already gone through two orders of the homemade chips when Sam brought over a third and told us that the kitchen was backed up due to a couple of large groups in the back dinning area and offered to buy us a round of drinks for our patience. Our food arrived shortly after the second round of drinks.

Our steak sandwiches were good though my wife and I thought that they could have put more steak between the Italian bread. The sister-in-law had no complaints with her fish tacos and my brother-in-law took half his sandwich home with him. The Brussel sprouts were the best thing that I had. Sam was a very attentive server. Kudos to her!

If another band that I like is playing there again I would consider going back but I'd probably go elsewhere to eat before going to Community House for music and drinks.

  2. One of the best Sunday brunch spots in the rockaways , one street away from the water. Very big bar and dining area along with a outdoor dining area.

They have a large selection of mixed drinks, wine and more alcohol. The steak and eggs are great for brunch and the rib eye is great for dinner.

I have three complaints and it doesn't involve the food! The hostess should be by the entrance not all the way in the back it makes no sense at all. Customer service needs to improve there's no reason it should take the waiters 20 mins to notice that you need another drink or ketchup. And oh yea there should be bottle ketchup on the tables.

  3. There was to be a full bar and food experience as the sun beat down, building a mighty thirst and the tummy was grumbling.

Saturday early evening seems to be a poor choice of assigning someone whose never tended bar to be the sole tender at the main bar. Clearly not knowing the drink menu as he offered up this confession changed my feeling about ordering food. Add in the fact he continuously inquire "are you ready to order?" Four times in about fifteen to twenty minutes. It was annoying.
It was tough going getting the bar keeps attention for my second beer, as six people at the bar put him in the weeds. The immature clowning around really brought down my impression of this swanky restaurant.

The young lad undercharged me on the simplistic bill and again, I could not grab his attention to show the error and pay accordingly.

The establishment is clearly worth special mention. So beautifully appointed with thick, rich exposed wood separate dining areas both inside and out, spacious, charming, welcoming, classy.

  4. After reading a few reviews and staring at pictures of their gorgeous patio I was interested to see what TCH Rockaway Beach, had to offer.

First off, if you know Rockaway Beach or of any beach that doesn't have a parking lot, you know how difficult parking can be on a weekend (especially a holiday weeekend). In this particular area the parking situation is annoying! From hundreds of No Standing Anytime signs to an excessive amount of driveways and hydrants expect to drive around for atleast 20 minutes (during peak season) looking for a spot; luckily we caught someone coming out.

Second thing I want to mention, this restaurant opened the first week in August, just about a month ago; I don't plan on being harsh but I will be honest in my review so we'll see….

Upon entering the retaurant I was blown away by the amount of space, this place is huge and beautiful!  There's a 15-20 seat bar when you first walk in with atleast 6 flat screens and the waiting area has some nice couches. Theres also a softly lit white sparkly stone backdrop with a long black studded leather couch along the wall Fancy! The design is rustic-contemporary with lots of dark browns and nuetrals, wood accents and lots of open space with paneled accents. Their unique indoor/outdoor seating options were impressive and very Manhattan-ish; from the chocolate brown studded half circle booths by the bar to two 10-12 seater half circle loungers in the outdoor patio. They would get 5 stars alone just based off the decor. They did, however, receive a 3 star rating from me because the food/service was lacking.

The weather was gorgeous so we sat in the outdoor patio area. The patio can seat around 60 people at tables and 20-25 in the loungers. The enclosed walls are wood paneled with nice shrubs of potted greenery placed along the wall. They have an additional bar outside, three or 4 flat screens and table games towards the back; life size Connect Four, Checkers and Jenga. Some great drunken entertainment on a Saturday night lol.

Once seated, we were offered water but ended up getting our drinks before that. The busboy (had to be like a 16 year old kid) left our cups empty and about 15 minutes later remembered he had never brought us a bottle of water. He was very apologetic though and filled them immediately. The brunch drink specials are amazeballs! $3 Mimosas/Screwdrivers and $5 Sangria/Bloody Mary; I can vouch for the Screwdriver, which my dad said was perfect and a custom Mimosa our waitress made for me. I opted for Pineapple juice and champagne instead of orange juice bc I'm allergic. They were sooo good I had two of them.

Our waitress was nice and friendly, she tried her best to accomodate us. After placing our orders we sat and waited about 30 minutes for our food. That was the longest wait of my life! We all were starving! And to make it worse our food came out cold 🙁 She only had about 5 tables other than us so I didn't understand why our food was left by the kitchen for so long. She constantly remind us it was her first weekend serving brunch too but that's no excuse. My moms spinach and Feta omlette was salty and her home fries were bland. My dad ordered the corned beef hash, which came in a skillet, and was cool to the touch. He said the meat was cubed not shredded and his potatoes were bland. My waffles were lukewarm and only decent; the accompanying berries soaked in St. Germaine liqueur weren't anything special.

We did get something that was worth the wait though, their candied bacon scones. Those were so good! Our waitress explained they baked them fresh and 15 minutes later we indulged in their warm bacony goodness. They smelled so delicious too! There were large pieces of candied bacon on top and each bite consisted of atleast one chunk of bacon. Savory and sweet, they were freaking awesome.

On my trek to check out the bathroom I met Eric, the bar manager. He was very nice and more than willing to give me some backstory on the restaurant; from the history of the previous owners to the increase in seating capacity, their neighboorhood competition and their first week opening horror stories. It was nice giving him some honest customer feedback on my experience at TCH and noticing how receptive he was. He informed me they have live music on Thurs, Fri and Sat with a Dj on Fri and Sat nights; Karaoke is on Sundays.

This place has potential to be great, I really hope they work out the kinks, specifically the wait time for your food (we weren't the only ones waiting angrily for the food to come out).
