  1. I had an excellent meal here during Westchester's restaurant week. The salted potatoes and stickabutta pie are highly recommended.

  2. The Cookery is a great find. It was lively on Wednesday eve but not crazy. We were seated at a hightop by the bar which was fine.

This is definitely a foodie spot. Great options and a very reasonable wine list with all bottles under $40 and all available by the glass.

    We had:
Pork belly special with roasted corn purée and peaches. Not incredibly complex in it's flavors and still incredibly delicious. This was the highlight of the meal, in my humble opinion.
Cauliflower ravioli in a brown butter with a lemon zest. Great. And a half portion of three to share was a perfect 2nd course.
Ribeye special. We shared this as it was a huge steak. It was good but not incredible. And it was over $70 so I wouldn't re-order it. It was cooked very well and came with potatoes
Stick-a-buttah pie. We took this to go after our waiter raved about it. It was a delicious nightcap once we got home. Very sweet and definitely addictive.

A glass of lambrusco, a glass of red, a cocktail, and our meal came to just over $140. Not cheap but you get what you pay for…really high quality meal. I'll be back.

  3. This is my favourite place in Westchester County especially during summer and autumn. yes, i have selected two months for good reasons.
Summer- Summer time is a great time to try the pizza in the wood stove that the restaurant makes at the farmer's market. The base of the pizza is olive oil. The crust is heavenly.

My favourite appetitzer on the menu is crostino with ricotta, honey & thyme. I never thought ricotta and honey would go together, but the accent of thyme is a creation.

I have tried all the pasta dishes- they are very filling and make you feel like you walked into the home of your grandma. wholesome and delicious!

the restuarant has a nice rustic, wholesomeness to it. The last time i was in New York, they were not open for lunch, i was very disappointed. This restaurant is a must try!

  4. Let's venture up to Westchester…because why not. We landed in Dobbs Ferry, which is quite the cool little town. Though I may be deducting that they're are maybe only 3-4 really, REALLY good restaurants for the dinner time crowd and Cookery is definitely one of them.

Beware all these places will have a 1+ hour wait after 7p. They are accommodating once you put your name on the list (you can give them your cell phone, but with this, know there are dead zones in town that you won't get any Verizon reception…and won't get the call resulting in them giving your table away. Super not cool. So, let's stop here with this stuff…

The place is intimate (and by this we mean that it can get quite crowded especially when people decide to spend the hour waiting at the bar. (Also, they have a pig dinner available for a group of 6 with advance notice). The servers are awesome and super helpful…they work hard.

So onto the food…(I know) finally,
Pork Osso Buco – if you've never had it, you MUST get it (the creamy polenta is beyond a dream and the pork falls off the bone, the apple is a great added bonus and completely, delicious necessary
Fried Chicken – with a hint of coconut (you get like an entire 1/2 a chicken…1/2 a breast AND a thigh with drumstick)…served with sweet, sour, spicy pickles (these are delicious
Butternut squash lasagna – it's a bit curious but soooo good. the top is delicious crunchy and burnt in the best way and the whole dish (even though it's a giant serving) is not too much too handle and surprisingly light. Not overwhelming in butternut squash either
Bone Marrow Rigatoni – rich, but light rigatoni and if you like bone marrow, you'll definitely enjoy this dish and trying to get every bit of marrow as you can
Stickabutta pie – amazing…and quite in an amazing delicious way resembles cheesecake
Mocho donut with ice cream on top – delicious, but when the ice cream on top cools the donuts…the donut becomes a bit chewy…otherwise delicious

TLDR: if you're in the area, go here IMMEDIATELY

  5. My lovely wife suprised me with a pig roast dinner for my 40th at one of my favorite restaurants. After years of gazing longingly over at that coveted table where diners were gnawing on pig flesh and crunching on pig skin, I finally got my time to swine!

Having some good friends there as part of the suprise made it that much more memorable, but of course the star of the show was the perfectly roasted pig that was way too much for 6 mere mortals to shred down to a bony carcass, but we each had quite a bit of leftovers.

That donut ice cream sandwich for dessert was so good there was no choice but to find room somewhere in our already extended bellies for it. That bit of salt really brought out the flavors.

Highly recommended if you  are a lover of all things pork. It is an experience.

  6. Come here right now! I love this freakin Westchester hot spot. Be prepared to eat lots and lots of buttah but the tight pants in the morning is TOTALLY worth it. I've eaten here a couple of times before I had yelp (can't imagine life without yelp)…anyway…every meal is amazing. Get anything pork related and the pastas are awesome. My friend and I spilt the pork rib special. Holy Jesus. What could be better than a deep fried pork rib ($15) smothered in a delish sauce? We used our forks to pull apart the tender flavorful meat and we were very very happy. Highly recommend it. Then I had the cauliflower ravioli ($17). Wow. The flavors are unreal and the slight spice at the end really surprises your taste buds. The ravioli are so buttery and the toasted breadcrumbs on top really add a high dimension of texture. To say the least…I'm into them. Then I had some of my friend's rigatoni with bone marrow ($16). If you don't like bone marrow don't get it but if you love bone marrow like I do…get it ASAP! We also tried the butternut squash lasagne that was outrageously good. I think it was a special and not sure how much it was. Take a look at the pic and then let me know what you think. The atmosphere is very warm and cozy- perfect for a date. My only gripe is that the desserts never blow me away. I've had almost all of them and nothing really sticks out to me. Aside from the desserts (and usually you are too stuffed anyway) everything else is perfect!

  7. Show stopping in every way.
Seamless & congenial staff who are at once proud of this spot and very comfortable with both the wine list and all of the dishes & their ingredients as well as preparation. Not once did we feel rushed, despite that both the dining room & bar were busy all night. Our server asked questions and then offered suggestions so that we wouldn't miss enjoying some of the menu highlights. Excellent service from reservation, hostess, servers, & the warm good night from the bartender. The staff like their work and it shows!
The interior style is warm, minimal & culinary forward- just in case you didn't know what they are passionate about: the dishes they are creating & feeding you to be exact. Too, the music of the night was 90's grunge rock. Unexpected and practically inappropriate but honestly, it set the mood: "we don't take ourselves too seriously (EXCEPT for the culinary mastering in the kitchen!) so have fun & enjoy your time here."
Excellent wine list with perhaps a dozen very good wines BY THE GLASS too which is unfortunately rare. I enjoyed an excellent Sancerre.
    We devoured with much pleasure:
House made ciabatta w cultured grass fed butter. Salty, crunch, fresh dense bread & sweet cream butter- just amazing.
Octopus w smoked tomato sauce was the perfect balance of smoke so as not to over power but compliment, the octopus cooked perfectly that I only required a fork, w pistachio & chili. I would go back & order two of these and a bottle of wine and be quite pleased indeed.
Dumplings were a slight disappointment as we weren't anticipating a deconstructed play on a dumpling.
1/2 order of the spaghetti w sesame seeds, Meyer lemon, Parmigano, & fresh cracked black pepper. Simple? Yes. But most delicious!
Pastina w sweet butter, Parmigano, & an ever so light touch of red sauce. Very pleasing.
Whole Branzino (order it so your server can ask "the brazen question") grilled w Brussels sprouts , brown butter & lemon. Perfectly cooked & very, very good.
Market steak w goose fat potatoes (do they really require words?!), romesco. Super happy husband!
Lastly the "STICKABUTTA pie" is well, exactly that- sugary, crunchy, rich, (more) buttery, thick slab o goodness! It's like the "other" crack pie @ you know where but with out the pomp.
I rarely hand out a 5 star review but the whole experience was excellent. I can't wait to go again! Bravo to all at The Cookery!

  8. I came here with the family for my brother's birthday dinner and had a great experience. I really appreciate places like The Cookery; it's a small, bustling restaurant that dishes out good food.

The restaurant doesn't serve bread standard but they have a bread and butter app for $6. For me it's worth it – it's ciabatta served warm and crusty with soft butter (mmmm). For my app I went with one of the specials – a savory bread pudding with mozzarella and marinara sauce topped with a fried egg. It was delicious – full of flavor and the egg really cinched it. For my main I had the roasted chicken – super flavorful with sliced peppers and potatoes in a smokey broth. Since it was a special occasion we had dessert – I went with their stickabutta pie which is kind of like a cheesecake with a graham cracker crust and caramelized sugar topping. It was dense as expected but didn't leave me plodding out of the restaurant.

Service was great, super friendly and attentive. They have a pretty strict reservation policy so I recommend you read it on their website if you plan on making one. Definitely a keeper – I would love to come back here for brunch and will keep it on my radar.
