I appreciate this place for its fine ingredients, fresh food, and delicious juices! The corner is the place to hit up when your body is craving some wholesome, delicious, and healthy food. The avocado toast is amazing, along with all of their breakfast items- I literally couldn't decide what to get between the fresh blueberry pancakes, smoked salmon toast, and so much more. I ended up getting the smoked salmon with poached eggs and it was a home run.
Love love love! Such a friendly and cute neighborhood place that I will keep coming back to.
I have been wanting to try this place out for a while! I decided to go on Easter Sunday for a quick breakfast back when I was living in Montclair! First off, the staff is really friendly. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and seated by the window (ledge table with stools). The whole place is really cozy! The pancakes and the avocado toast were delicious! Overall great food & service! The only con would be the hours! They close too early at 4 pm! I wish they closed late – I would have gone after work!
I love everything about this place: the decor, the service, and most importantly, the food. They offer your usual breakfast/cafe favorites from fresh pressed juices to avocado toast to brunch specials. Thank you to the owner/manager (?) for the hospitality. It was worth the wait on a busy Saturday morning. Looking forward to coming back!
I can understand why this is a popular place…all natural ingredients, nice location, and good presentation of the food. However, the menu is limited and the food is way over priced. You really don't get quality for the price. Service was a bit slow and there was no hostess when we arrived so lots of people were just standing around looking for tables or waiting to put a name in. Maybe we visited at a bad time, but we probably wouldn't return.
Thanks to a fellow yelper's review, I made the very easy decision to take a drive out to Montclair to try out one item: The Corner's Chocolate Chip Cookie.
Referenced as being similar to the heralded Levain Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie, which I've indulged in twice before, my decision to make the trip was quite easy being a Chocolate addict and Cookie Monster LOL.
Note that these cookies are only sold starting at 2:30PM, which means you best get there on time!
I arrived at 2:36PM only to be saddened to find out the first batch was already sold out! Luckily, the key word there was "first batch", as I was told another was in the oven. I asked the very friendly young lady behind the counter how long for the next batch to be ready and was told 15-20 minutes. I was allowed to reserve two cookies and come back in the aforementioned time frame.
After a quick walk around the neighborhood, I was very happy to see my two cookies were graciously set aside and nestled inside a plastic container. The slight steam on the container revealed that these indeed just came from the oven.
About 45 minutes later I quickly opened my container and had a nice slice of one cookie and it was excellent.
Texture wise The Corner's cookie was spot on with Levain's with a soft, almost underdone/half-baked texture and a slightly crisp exterior.
Chocolate chips were perfect as they were just on the edge of semi-soft gooey (you know it when you have to wipe of from your hands).
However, I feel Levain's cookie is overall richer and more decadent, maybe from the use of additional butter or extra flavor imparted from the walnuts (the Corner's did not have any nuts), or maybe from the chocolate chips used (I've read that they use Guittard chocolate chips).
Ultimately, Levain still is my cookie benchmark as it holds a special place in my heart and stomach, but the Corner's variant most certainly satisfied me and put a smile on my face!
July 2015 was my first review of "The Corner". This little restaurant continues to WOW me. Most restaurants start out good and then unfortunately go downhill.
The Corner still remains excellent!!!
Came in late afternoon for lunch. The place was crowded. Anyway, I was seated right away, served water and given a menu. However, this was in a very friendly and non-rushed manner.
For starters, I ordered the Lemon Pressed Soda. It was still super delicious with fresh lemon and mint leaves. I had a craving for a great burger. Ordered the Corner Burger (medium)with Shoestring Fries. It did not disappoint. The burger has high-quality meat and beautifully cooked. The cheddar cheese on the burger was very fresh and not overpowering. All in all, the burger was incredible! The rosemary shoestring fries were perfectly crisp and tasty! Not an ounce of grease were on the fries.
At the next table, I saw two girls sharing what looked like an incredible meringue pie. They said it was delicious. Of course, I couldn't leave without ordering a slice to go.
Totally enjoyed the key lime meringue pie as a late night snack :). Check out my picture!
The Corner continues to have great customer service and phenomenal food. Hope everyone goes to check it out!!!
Solid place in Montclair far away enough from the hustle to find parking! Be prepared for a weekend wait though – we waited about an hour for a table of 4 outside on a Saturday arriving at 12.
The staff was nice and calm for such a busy place. Ordered a juice at the counter while waiting (Fields of Green). It was ok, but not the best juice I've had. My friend got a cold brew coffee and stated the same.
All 4 of us ended up getting avocado toast on the multigrain instead of rustic bread. The multigrain was delicious and so was the avocado and egg. The waitress did forget one person's egg, but did apologize, get it to us quickly and take the egg part off the bill. Nice enough! My friends got Shoestring Fries and liked them too.
Would return here on a day when there's no wait, but definitely wouldn't wait an hour again.
My girlfriend and I decided to head over to Montclair for Sunday brunch. We noticed the Corner's rave reviews and decided to give it a shot. It really hit the mark in some aspects while it lacked in others.
It is not located in downtown Montclair, which is actually convenient considering the difficulty of finding parking downtown sometimes. The interior of the place is nice, yet simple and quite small. They did also have a little outdoor seating but it we decided to sit inside. Unfortunately their A/C is pretty lackluster because it was very warm and muggy inside; not a fun time when you're trying to enjoy your food.
Regarding the food, we decided to start with the avocado toast. Not a big fan, it wasn't bad by any means, but just not worth the price. I ordered an omelette with cheddar and mushrooms while my girlfriend ordered the biscuit breakfast sandwich. For the price, my omelette was a little bit of a rip-off. I assumed it would've come with home fries but I was sadly wrong; it came with a minute amount of fruit and a small salad. Disappointing to say the least. The omelette was well made, but not spectacular. My girlfriend's biscuit sandwich was pretty much the polar opposite of my dish (I was jealous): creative, delicious, decadent and filling. The biscuit was probably the best I have ever had, please do yourself a favor and order that sandwich!
We ended our meal with their famous cookies (supposedly they rival Levain's in New York). Let me tell you, they live up to their hype. Absolutely delicious and right up their with the best of the best. My only complaint was that the cookie had a bit to much chocolate chips in it (I didn't think it possible either) to the point where all you tasted at times was chocolate. Other than that, magnificent.
I will definitely be returning to the Corner and giving it another try.
