  1. Stopped in randomly (after searching Yelp for a place to eat) during a road-trip from NJ to RI.  The beer selection at this place is absolutely amazing!  There were over 60 pumpkin beer varieties alone just before Halloween.  Such an awesome list of craft beers and also craft spirits.  The atmosphere was great… really felt like a small, old-school tavern.  The food was good, but I'd say 3-4 star for the food (which is good), but that's why the overall rating isn't a 5.  Will DEFINITELY go back if I'm in the area.

  2. The Craftsman Ale House is a must stop right off of I-95. They have a good beer selection on tap. We happened to pop in when Kelso took over and were impressed with their two IPAs (one was hoppy and the other sour). The burger was very good. You can select one of their  creations or make your own. We constructed a turkey (the meat) with pepper jack (cheese) and jalapeños, chili, and avocado ( toppings). It was Mexican- flavored goodness. The staff were friendly and helpful. In sum, go here if you are in or nearby Harrison and love burgers and beer! Oh, parking was easy and it's a block away from a Metro-North stop.

  3. This place was on our way back from To Boston from New York. It was stellar. A small bar with a ton of atmosphere. It has everything I would ever want in a small bar.

The wings were good. Spicier kick than regular buffalo wings I usually get. The burgers were giant and delicious. It was laced with flavor. Everything I would ever want in a burger. I got the spicy chicken club and swapped out the grilled chicken for a beef burger. I scarfed it down in a few minutes and I was left with a feeling of satisfaction. I topped it off with a strawberry lager. They have an extensive beer menu so I just took a shot at something random and it was good.

If you like beers, burgers, and wings this is the place for you.

  4. Wish I had come here sooner – what a gem!

Amazing beer selection (at least 20-ish pumpkin beers alone!), delicious burgers, friendly staff, decent prices. What's not to love?

They even cook your burger medium rare when you ask for it that way. Swoon.

  5. This place is a good find – located not too far north of NYC in Harrison, the Craftsman boasts a large selection of beer and good food in a relaxed, casual setting.

I came here on a Friday evening with some friends, we were a party of seven and had made reservations for 8pm. When we arrived at 8 we were told it would be a little while, which amounted to waiting a little over an hour for a table to open up. I forgive that though because we were never forgotten by the staff and just killed the time hanging out at the bar.

The place is relatively small; it's cut vertically down the center with the bar area being on the right and the dining area on the left. The place has a typical bar feel – kinda loud, darkish color scheme, sports playing on the televisions, music playing, and local memorabilia on the walls. A hallmark of the Craftsman is their beer selection, the selection is like none I've seen before – if you're into beer you will surely love this place.

The menu has a good selection of bar food without being overwhelming. One thing worth noting is the "build your own" burger/sandwich section where you choose your protein, cheese, and toppings any way you like for $12 – great deal. We started with buffalo wings and an order of nachos. For my main I had the craftsman burger which contained cheddar cheese, bacon, and caramelized onions on a sesame seed brioche bun. I chose fries for a side but you can also choose onion rings, side salad, mac and cheese, cheese fries or chili-cheese fries. If you want, you can swap out beef with any other protein on the burgers. Prices are great – there is not one app over $8 or a main over $12, and for the quality of the food it's a great value. Service was good, our waitress was attentive to us throughout the evening.

Overall the relaxed atmosphere, beer selection, and good food makes the Craftsman a place worth going back to.

  6. My girlfriends wanted to get together for a chill night, some food and good beers and unfortunately I stopped drinking beer 4 months ago (I didn't tell them that till I got there).

Anyways besides the awesome beer collection that they have at this joint, which consisted of hundreds of tantalizing selections for me to drool over, they have this amazing amazing selection of craft liquors too…great because I had this rye whiskey that was delicious and got me buzzed off of two sips.

My friends ending up ordering 2 draughts flights which had them drinking 16 (looked like 4 oz glasses).  Just say they were satisfied and between 3 girls almost didn't finish it (almost).

The burgers were good, mine came out perfectly cooked to the way I wanted it.  The only thing is I wanted to top it off with more toppings, but the frantic waitress was just rushing my order cut me off and I only got to order bacon.  I excused her and just bit my tongue because I'll know I'll regret ordering everything and plus she was the ONLY waitress in the place, running back and forth table to table.  I mean you just saw how distraught she was, she handled ALL the tables by herself and the place was PACKED for dinner.  Holy crap gurrrllll you rock.

And the women's bathroom is super small and if you were drunk you'd go the wrong way to find it.

  7. Came here thanks to a recommendation from a bartender my fiance and I met at Russian River Brewery in Santa Rosa, CA.   Since its one of the best breweries in the country we figured the guy knew what we was talking about – he was totally right.

Craftsman has a fabulous beer selection and some damn tasty bar food.  Came here about 8pm on Sunday (yes they were playing football), and had a few drinks and dinner.

They had something for everyone on tap – a nice treat for me since its hard to find decent wheat on draft after the summer.  We shared a half flight to get a feel for some of their draft options.  A number were excellent, so we continued to get our drink on for a few hours.

As for food, my fiance ordered a cheese burger with fries – which was awesome.  Good fried – I was definitely stealing them throughout the whole meal.

I ordered the beer battered chicken fingers, which were really yummy, but rather greasy.  Then again, they're deep fried so what did I expect.

I also ordered a bowl of chili which was really good!  I would definitely go for this again or throw some on a burger.  Yum!

Overall, its a chill place to hand out and drink good beer with good food.  Although it took us a long time to get from Brooklyn to Harrison, it was a fun adventure and we were rewarded with beer!

  8. This pub-style, sorta maybe sometimes sports bar, has all the creaky wooden floor charm a girl hopes for in a small town hangout. The crowd was a comfortable size, we had just the right table tucked into a window nook, and our server was charming, knowledgeable about beer, and just the right amount of attentive to our needs.
Plus – I learned something! Gose beer, peeps! Gose, pronounced Goh-zuh, is the hot trend now in NY microbrew outfits. It's a slightly salty beer (and a bit sour, too). This peculiar flavour originated, I was told, in a specific location in Germany where the water for the beer making was drawn from a slightly salty river nearby, thus giving the beer that hint of saltiness. Now it's added of course, but what a great bit of history! The beer is actually really good.
This place also had one of my fave pub foods: deep fried pickles. I also had a salad so monstrous, I had to take half of it home with me. Made for a great lifesaver lunch the next day.
Highly recommend this place if ever you find yourself in the Harrison area, just a 45-minute train ride outside of NYC.
