  1. This is my go-to diner in the area – went here very frequently throughout the last several years. I love that they have all sorts of options – from breakfast foods to pastas, hot and cold sandwiches to steak and seafood entrees. You can come here with a pretty big group of people and everyone will be able to find something that satisfies their personal taste/cravings. Out of all the things I've tried, I've never been too disappointed by what I got. Although it's not always super consistent in the quality of the food (some menu items have been delish, while others alright), the food is way better than the other diners in the New Brunswick or Rutgers area (I've tried many of the other diners in the vicinity). Also, their portions are always very large (fill you up and leftovers!), which is a plus!

As for a recommendation, I really enjoy the classic club sandwiches here. Yesterday, I got the chicken breast club sandwich on wheat bread with a little mayo. It was great! I was a little iffy about the wheat bread when ordering it, but got it anyway because I wanted a healthier option (yes, I know I got mayo). But the wheat bread was really good, to my surprise. Tip: I'd get the chicken breast over turkey, which tends to be a bit on the dry side. The chicken is juicier and way more tasty.

The service is quick and, depending on the server, can be friendly or curt. They're typically busy – a lot of their tables are usually filled – but not so busy that I've had to wait for a table. They wait staff hustles though, usually not making too much conversation as they have a lot of tables to serve. They are usually pretty attentive and accommodating, nonetheless.

The place is open 24 hours, so I've come here to study late at night before. If you feel comfortable studying in a busy atmosphere like a Starbucks or something, it might suit you (I didn't get much done).

  2. I was in the Edison area and really had no particular idea what to have for lunch so decided to stop by what is usually a solid choice in Edison Diner.

Good: My Tuna Melt was quite tasty.  The tuna fish salad was fresh with not too much mayonnaise and nice contrast with onion and various seasonings.  French fries were fried to a crisp texture with a soft interior.

Coleslaw was surprisingly good as well.

Sister had the Chicken Caesar Salad and it was a nice large portion of fresh greens and moist chicken breast.

The Bad: Service was not up to par at all.

Firstly our waiter did not ask us for our drink order, requiring us to flag him down to order our drinks (two coffees).

After finishing our entrees we were each looking to get a dessert, but we literally waited 17 minutes until our waiter passed by; again having to motion to him to get his attention.  At this point we were both fed up and decided against dessert (not knowing how long that ordeal could take), so we just opted to get the check, pay, and leave.

We haven't experienced this poor of a level of service in a while, and hopefully don't for some time.

  3. This time I ordered the Thai Beef Salad ($13.95).  There were 3 decent slices of flank steak with scallions, bean sprouts, carrots, onions, baby corn, mushrooms, chestnuts, radicchio and mixed greens with a ginger sesame and lime dressing.  The steak had excellent flavor, but it was cooked too much.  It seemed to be soy sauce marinade.  There could have been a few more pieces of meat too.  The rest of the salad was alright, nothing great.  The dressing was tasty, but too liquidly.

  4. I was visiting island spa nearby and couldnt find any other place that was open at 1am. I decided to try this place out for a quick grub. The first impression as I walked in was, "wow this place looks fancy for a diner" and after i got the menu I thought "wow they charge so much ($4.35) for Oj it must be good". Two of us ended up getting large orange juice, beef patty melt, buffalo wings and smothered steak sandwich. The coleslaw that came with the platter was tasty, the portion was huge, but the flavor was just okay. We couldnt finish half of the food that we ordered. I would say this place has big portions, higher price for a diner, very quick service but not so friendly, opens 24hrs.
I dont think I would return to the place though.
We purposefully left the to go box with left over food because we decided we didnt want it but the server came chasing after us which I thought was nice. Maybe If I come here next time, I will try the omelettes since everybody says its very good!

  5. There's no doubt that the Farmland Omelet at Edison Diner is the BEST omelet in the area!!

It combines spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes with melty Swiss cheese. It's topped off with creamy Hollandaise sauce, which transforms the omelette from average to AMAZING!

Although the breakfast potatoes aren't the best I've ever had, they definitely satisfy and pair nicely with the omelet.

Edison Diner's decor is extremely outdated compared to other diners in the area, which is the one reason why I'd pick other diners over Edison Diner. It looks like a grandma's bedroom… If they revamped their look, I'd go there much more often for date nights!

I typically play it safe by ordering the Farmland Omelet because of an awful experience I had when I once ordered sweet potato fries. They were completely raw and inedible.

However, I love the Farmland Omelet so much that the "grandma" decor or my sweet potato fry incident won't stop me from going to get it!

  6. My family has been coming here at least once a month for the past 3 or 4 years. This place has great breakfast dishes- simple but delicious. The prices have recently gone up a little bit but considering the amount of food we get, coming here is still worth it. I usually get breakfast combo 1 with egg whites and sausage patties. I loove the breakfast potatoes too. I can't go wrong with either of them. I also occasionally get the bread pudding and that's A+ too!

We have never gotten poor service here either. The waiters/waitresses are great  and are very accommodating.

We'll still be coming back here regularly 🙂

  7. Come here for their dinner specials.  Soup, salad, entree, dessert, beverage all included.  Lots of selections.  Dinner here was a much better experience than my previous after movie visits for late night fare.

  8. Probably one of the best diners I've been to in the Edison area. I've grown to realize that NJ is very known for their diners. Portions are massive and I recommend you do 2 people to a plate in order to finish everything or you'll definitely need to doggie bag it home. People are super nice and there is ample parking in the front and back.

    Goods
    1) Breakfast omelets and the burgers were really good too. Get the fries…they were amazing!
    2) Their salad dishes are actually pretty damn good here. It's very fresh and they give you a huge piece of salmon if you do an add on. There soups are delicious as well. Turkey chowder was creamy and filling.
    3) When you order a duck dish…they really give you a full half duck. We laughed when we got the dish because we were wondering how we'll actually eat it.

    The ehhh
    1) The Paella was not very good. It's basically rice and marinara sauce that made it a bit too soupy for me.
