  1. The Famous Chicken Place gets the job done!

Earlier this evening I placed an order, through Seamless, for the chicken gyro platter and in just 20 minutes, it was at my door. And not only was the food still warm, but the fries were not yet soggy. Furthermore, everything was nicely packed, with the can of Sprite in a separate brown bag, along with packets of salt and pepper, ketchup, and utensils.

I definitely recommend it if you are in the mood for average Americanized Greek food, Seamless style!

  2. I really didn't know what to think of this place. The Yelp reviews are mediocre at best but on seamless they were pretty stellar so I took a gamble and ordered the chicken gyro platter and the beef & lamb gyro. The verdict was good. I was pretty impressed, enough so that I'm ordering from them again today. I can't comment on the service but the meats were seasoned well and flavorful. The lettuce was fresh (Thank goodness) and crisp. The white sauce is a bit watered down and for an extra side of sauce they charge 75 cents. That kinda sucks because these dishes depend on a great white sauce!

The one thing I'm grateful for is that they make a solid gyro. I tend to steer away from ordering gyros because I've found them to be mostly "misses" instead of hits in this city. Glad I have another reliable take-out option in the neighborhood.

  3. I love a place where the person taking orders calls me "boss".  I stopped in here for lunch, and the chicken looked absolutely delicious.  Expect a little smoke, they're grilling up a few dozen chickens at a time for heaven's sake.  I had the gyro, with a side of fries and a pop for a little over 10 bucks.  Kind of steep.  The gyro was delicious and the service was great, so it's all worth it.
This brings my count of favorite spots in the 3rd and 42nd area to two.  The Blarney Stone, and this place.  Both are rather run down, but the service is great, the prices are between 5 and 10 bucks and the food won't give me gut rot or put me into a food coma for the afternoon.  A win win all around if you ask me.

  4. Chicken is dry. Dry chicken is the worst.  Spanakopita is greasy.  Greasy spanakopita is the worst.

  5. I work not too far from "The Famous Chicken Place" but I never knew about it until my boss told me to give it a shot.  The fact that they grill their meats on a real grille made it sound like a healthy alternative to the street meat I normally would get (that can get quite greasy at times).

Chicken Place is best described as a hole in the wall.  You walk in and it's a really narrow corridor  where you order and they have the grille and fixings bar situated.  Beyond that is a seating area with enough room for maybe fifteen people if they squished in.

I ordered the Ceasar Wrap to go which consisted of thin sliced chicken breast grilled with romaine lettuce on a whole wheat wrap.  I asked for the dressing on the side and they were kind enough to oblige.  I wouldn't call the service particularly friendly or fast, but the fast part I'm okay with because that meant the wrap was made to order.  When it comes to grilled chicken, that's the way I like it.

The wrap stayed warm for the five blocks it took me to get to my office.  With only a bit of dressing here and there it was very tasty and they didn't skimp on the lettuce or the chicken.  The nice grilled char flavor was abundant and the chicken was moist but crispy on the edges.  I could tell however that had this sat for a while, the chicken would have dried out.

I enjoyed the food here and look forward to trying their half chicken one day.  However I think I'll definitely take it to go.

  6. I've never actually been inside the restaurant but . . . . I've ordered takeout for lunch about 3 times over the last month and its really yummy.  My favorite is the skewered chicken (souvlaki, I think) over rice.  The chicken has that great grilled taste and is very moist.  I have convinced myself that its healthy by avoiding the sauces.  Also, delivery has always been very quick.  Based on the reviews and photos below maybe its better that I never go into the actual place? I prefer to think of it as some magical chicken place.  Anything short of that will probably disappoint.

  7. Takeout only —

My workplace decided to order from The Famous Chicken Place and after scanning the menu, I wanted to try their Gyro Platter since it is a Greek based restaurant. Upon arrival, I liked how everything was labeled and neatly put together.

The Gyro Platter consist of the gyro meat, salad, pita, and french fries. The fries were mediocre and the salad was nicely cut. The meat was very flavorful but it was a bit on the hard/tough side, and also a bit dry. The white sauce was very liquidy and lacked flavor. The meal was overall ok, but it could've been a lot better if they can fix these little tweeks. I just can't seem to justify the platter being over $10 when I can buy halal food from the carts that cost half as much and taste even better.

If fate brings me back to this place again, I'll be sure to try something else. Maybe it'll just change my mind but the platter just didn't cut it.

  8. Good midtown seamless option. I had the Greek salad with chicken–perfectly cooked and juicy. Grape leaves were meh. Stick to chicken.
