stopped in for dinner recently on a weeknight and was seated promptly. the menu was slightly small but you probably can find something to suit your fancy. we shared some fries which were pretty good, on the salty side. i had the steak as entree and in terms of portion it was minimal for what i'd expect in brooklyn. it was enough but on the smaller end and left me feeling a bit hungry. the place is smallish and cute, good for a small group setting or a date night. service was great, they kept checking on us. the dessert menu was a little disappointing as we wanted to celebrate a birthday. would come back to try their menu again but wouldn't rush to do so.
I came here for brunch last weekend after a 5k in MCU Park. I don't normally venture into Brooklyn for brunch so I was excited to check out a spot that so many of my friends had enjoyed. The 5k was over by 10ish and my sis and I got there right at opening to be the first party seated.
We opted for a table right by the window — it was a lil too windy to be sitting outside although their outdoor seating area looks spacious and awesome.
We were pretty famished from the run so we each ordered a dish(pollock cake for me, burger for her) and split an order of the hand cut fries plus french toast.
The pollock cake came with a sunny side egg atop and some mixed greens on the side. The pollock cake was nothing to rave about and the three lil bones that I had to subtly spit out wasn't fun. The egg was fine though and the greens were crisp and fresh.
I enjoyed the other items much more. The fries were thick and crisp and the curry mayo that they serve with it was so amazing and addicting. I'm a sucker for curry anything, though. And fries. Ha.
Lastly, the French toast. We almost didn't order it but it ended up being our favorite dish. It wasn't dry and you could taste and smell the vanilla and cinnamon. I used minimal syrup. The apple compote was also a lovely addition — the apple chunks were huge.
I don't think I'd go out of my way to come back, especially if there's a wait, but the meal was decent and the cost was very reasonable.
Fantastic dinner. Service is great. We started off with terrific bread. Food is very good too. We had two of the salad appetizers and one pork main course. The vegetarian pasta platter was good but not great.
But if we go back, the thing to try might be the burger. A lot of people were ordering it and raving about it.
I came here for brunch on a Saturday morning. It was a beautiful day and we asked to sit outside. The hostess told us it was only going to be five minutes, and soon walked us back to delightful back patio / garden seating area. The wait staff was helpful and friendly. Everything on the menu sounded yummy, but we went with the Red Flannel Hash and the Grown Up Grilled Cheese. We also ordered a side of Chocolate Bread and Cheesy Grits. Within 7 minutes we had our food. It was amazing. Both of our entrees came with this delicious salty sweet salad. While the grits were not stone-ground, they were cheesy as promised. The chocolate bread, which I had seen great reviews for on Yelp did not disappoint. Overall, our service was excellent, the wait for brunch on a weekend was quick, and the food was good. Looking forward to coming back here.
Great place to grab some brunch. Five of us arrived a few minutes before they opened and good thing because the place filled up immediately. All of their ingredients were really fresh and deliciously prepared and the atmosphere was nice. They have a patio outback but it was unfortunately too cold when I went to sit out there.
I ordered a bloody mary to start and the egg sandwich with bacon. I'm pretty picky about scrambled eggs and only usually like them when I make them for myself, however the ones here were perfectly made. You can tell everything they use is really great quality and everything seemed to be priced reasonably. I'll definitely be back to try some of their lunch and dinner options.
"The Farm" let me down… Gently at least… So it wasn't a total disappointment but could not bring myself to give it more than 3 stars. Maybe because our original plan was to eat at Purple Yam (not serving lunch anymore except on the weekends! Doh! Ugh!!) but took a detour and ended up here.
Service was good, not overbearing but will get you whatever you may need during your visit, just have to ask.
Decor: rustic looking boutique type eatery, you know the drill: exposed bricks (they painted it white… Should've left it in the natural state…), back yard garden (this one is too close for comfort with bordering neighbors – – it's a residential area!), home bottle water… Actually roomy for its size…
Food: The menu is simple, love that they use every bit of the animal carcasses for every possible way. Well.. The food actually where this Farm loses me… We order the Farm Omelet and the Croque Monsieur, side of smoked bacon, ice tea and a cold brew…
– Ice tea had some lingering after taste which my brunch buddy did not like.. Like syrupy…
-cold brew was kind of weak, asked for milk so I could salvage it… It didn't.
-Farm omelet (cheese/caramelized onion) comes with side salad & Yukon gold potato hash. The omelet lacked flavor… Brunch buddy kept smashing the Yukon gold hash & spread it so the omelet would have some sort of taste.
-side smoke bacon – REALLY salty! Don't eat it solo… But it saved brunch buddy's eggs…
-Croque Monsieur – glorified open face ham & cheese sandwich with a sunny side egg on top, comes with green salad. My first 2 bites were gloriously good… Then I started chugging my coffee down and water in giant gulps! I never knew a sandwich could dehydrate a person.. That's how much sodium I felt like I had consumed.
Overall it wasn't a terrible experience… But left much to be desired… It's a maybe on my list of do-overs…
Happy feasting Yelpers!
Small portions for a pricey amount. They only have about 5 things for appetizers and 5 for dinner. Because they only have a few things, you'd think any of those would be good since it's so limited but the meals were only okay.
My two friends got the pork shoulder which was just a huge chunk of meat with potatoes on the side. They were so stuffed from all the meat. I tried a piece and it wasn't juicy or with much flavor. I got the risotto which was probably the healthiest option out of all the others. It was only ok. I've tried other healthy meals that not only were they healthy but good. My other friend got the pasta with mussels and bacon which I think was the best one because of the sauce.
For appetizers we got the fries because one review said it was "to die for" and we also got Brussels sprouts. The fries were really good with their curry mustard sauce and ketchup that tasted like it was mixed with something else. I expected and wanted the Brussels sprouts in their original form but it was shredded. They were pretty bland to me.
All it all, this place was ok. Not sure what the hype is but maybe it's a place for brunch, not for dinner.
I know The Farm is known for brunch, but their dinner is also quite excellent.
The restaurant itself is deceptively big, with a back seating area and of course, the yard. We came during the winter, so outdoor wasn't an option.
It was also their Stouts & Oysters week. The oysters were good, a bit pricey at $3 apiece, but sometimes you have to treat yourself. We did the Wellfleets and East Beach Blondes.
I didn't do a stout, because their normal draft beer selection is phenomenal. I'm always a sucker for a Finback. Great whiskey selection too.
For an app, we split the squid salad with chickpeas, lemon and olive. A little on the acidic side, but the squid was cooked perfectly.
For my main, I went with the slow cooked pork shoulder. It came with pine nuts on top and yukon gold potatoes underneath. The meat was tender and had great texture with the nuts and breadcrumbs. Good portion size too.
The prices at The Farm don't make it an every night type of dinner place, but maybe a few times a week… and every weekend for brunch.
Of course, they also give you toy animals with your bill. Just because.
