I have been staying with family in Queens and was too tired and hot to stop at my usual seafood place in Brooklyn, so I found this place on Yelp. Walking in, it's pretty similar to any seafood-steam restaurant but a bit more hectic. They have a good selection but the ordering process is confusing and they don't have many steamers. I provided one of the workers with my selection of food and she put it on a receipt and told me "15 minutes". No number to call, she didn't take my name either, so I had to stand and wait, hoping she didn't forget me. Finally after about 25 minutes, my food was ready. Pricing was fair, she weighed my food prior to cooking but I don't think she priced it as advertised. There was nothing spectacular about the seasoning, It was good but could've been bolder, maybe some fresh herbs or even Sazon would've kicked it up a bit. I ordered 2 filets of fried whiting and they were terribly bland. All batter and no seasoning, I was disappointed about that as I love fried whiting. I do however, love the selection of veggies. They have corn, pumpkin, okra, potatoes, cabbage, and even spinach. I'll return if it's my only option, but I won't be running back for the food.
Now I know ya'll saw that frozen tilapia box in the fridge by the sodas. Even while I was sitting, waiting for my food, they were taking shrimp out the bags and putting them on ice. He watched me, watch him take the shrimp out the packages with no shame in his game whatsoever. I thought they served fresh seafood, not just freshly made seafood.
Anywho, the food is really good and the prices are very reasonable for the amount they give, but the false advertisement is too real! You can compare this store to the 24 hour seafood spot in Harlem. You pick your own raw seafood (fish, shrimp, scallops, crab legs, etc…), then you choose your raw veggies and then they cook it for you.
I kept it simple with 4 fried pieces of whiting with fries. My friend ordered steamed tilapia with yellow rice and broccoli. Not my favorite batter on the fish but it was still good. My friend said she really enjoyed her tilapia.
There is a long wait time for your food and this place can get real busy so its better to call ahead then pick it up. Also there's only about 3 tables in there. Most people take-out.
