  1. They say it's hard to find decent Mexican food in New York, and then I say, you obviously have not tried The Great Burrito! They do a fantastico job serving delicious Mexican food! One of the most important qualifying factors that authenticates true Mexican cuisine is how good the salsa is.  The Great Burrito exceeds expectations with their delicious fresh salsa!!

They offer a spicy red salsa that brings on a nice even heat that is so tasty and packed with flavor. I was very impressed!  Their guacamole is totally fresh, homemade with chunks of tomato, cilantro and onion, and super delicious.  I also tried their Chicken Mole and Chicken Chipotle tacos, both were excellent in flavor and great in portion!

Online ordering was very easy to do and the delivery service was timely and friendly. We received everything we ordered and had plenty of napkins and eating utensils.  Overall the food quality, freshness and flavor were all excellent and we were completely satisfied! My only wish is if I could order online and they deliver to California!!  Especially the salsa!!

  2. This is by far the best AUTHENTIC Mexican food in the UWS. You won't find better beans and rice you won't find better salsa/dip. They have this crazy dip with salsa, sour cream, guac, black beans, pinto beans, and Jack cheese that is pretty much the super bowl of all dips. It is World Cup party worthy!

The burritos are huge, a bit too much honestly. The tacos are great and their quesadillas are really filling.

  3. Literally a hole in the wall. I've probably passed by this place a ton of times and never noticed it until I was actually looking for it.

The décor is minimal. Only a few tables. Super authentic though.

I had the chipotle chicken quesadillas. Had the person serving me not said they were quesadillas, I would have thought they were tacos. Then again, what really is the difference between quesadillas and tacos? Mostly just the shape. It was not served with rice and beans like the menu said. Maybe I did get the wrong item? I don't know.

Anyway, the chicken in the quesadilla was super tender. The meat was overflowing.

I also had a side of guacamole with chips which was a tad too chunky for me. It was basically sliced up avocados.

The order came with green salsa. I ordered medium and it was still pretty spicy.

Came out to about $15. Not very expensive, but not very cheap either (considering the ambiance).

  4. I wanted to like this place.  I really did try, but it was a disappointment. I feel I have a hard time finding spinach burritos.  They are rarely on menus.  As we were strolling, we stopped to grab a menu and ultimately returned. There was no way I'd pass up a spinach burrito.  They had other spinach options too such as quesadillas.  So we ordered the spinach burrito, nachos and a small guac. It came to about $26.  It took about 10 minutes to prepare.  Well, I was completely stoked about this place till I cut into the burrito.  Frozen spinach?! Get out of here! Why bother? The burrito was large, but tasteless.  I had a few bites and tossed it. The nachos-eh.  Limited toppings and soggy but serves us right for ordering them as take out.  The highlight of the places was the guacamole.  The guacamole was the best I've ever had.  I noticed they don't sell any sort of liquor. So as much as I'd like to write about my new favorite spinach burrito spot, I must be honest and say it was an epic fail.  On to the next spinach burrito…

  5. Awesome burritos! I had the grilled chicken one, and could barely finish half of it, but that's okay with me because I had leftovers for lunch the next day and the burrito-y goodness lived on. They also give you chips and salsa when you eat in, even though it's essentially a takeout place, so that's nice.

  6. On weekend when the Museum of Natural History nearby is flooded with families and children, its a safe bet to come here for amazing Mexican food break.

CHICKEN MOLE BURRITO – Just browsing Yelp and seeing how large the 12inch burrito actually was sold me immediately on the place. GET this only if you have an insane appetite. I cleaned it off completely, but someone who's more normal could make this into at least 2 meals. The added mole sauce is asking me to go all in with my entire wallet. I'm used to a more sweet tasting mole sauce but the one here has an appreciated zesty kick to it.

FLAUTAS – 3 large taquitos served with rice, beans, avocado and topped with cheese? YES PLEASE.

Jarritos Soda – Bunches of flavors to choose from! First time trying it and it didn't disappoint (at least the Pineapple flavor didn't).

As you walk you're probably thinking "crap another small place that looks like cash only." Rest assured that take credit cards! Don't recommend going with a group larger than 4 as they only have 4-5 tables max.

  7. While on a business trip I was looking for a place to grab some Mexican food. Some locals I was working with suggested this place. Being from LA I might have a skewed view on Mexican food. This spot is a little hole in the wall with a few tables and the service was great however, the food wasn't the best. It was the only quick Mexican style place I could find in the area so it scratched the itch. I would visit this place again but if it was in LA I probably wouldn't. The only issue that I had was I kept getting the wrong drink. The server kept giving me diet.

  8. I agree with others who have said "good, not great." I have lived on the UWS for over a year and have found takeout/delivery to be rather lackluster. In the grand scheme of things, I consider this place to be just "okay." However, in terms of delivery in the area, this place is better than most. Oh, UWS, you're such an enigma.

The burritos are huge. I can get about 2.5-3 meals out of one. The rice in beans are actually pretty good and the pork is okay. I must complain, however, that the burritos don't seem to hold themselves together very well and are more easily eaten with a knife and fork.

In short, this place is one of the better choices for local takeout, but if you're a burrito aficionado, you're not likely to be wowed.
