Greenroom and I have been going steady for nearly 6 years and I'm only updating my review now? Shame on me!
Just wanted to do a quick shout-out for them having stayed open by candlelight and allowing people to leave their dark homes and spend some time in a dark bar instead! Conversations, drinks on ice (no, they had no power but they drove way out of the way just to get ice) and some tunes on the radio made everything seem a little more normal than it has been of late. Thank you guys!
Looking forward to the next Punk Nite so I can spin some tunes again!
Cheers!
Walking the streets of Harrison, we stumbled upon this place early in the afternoon in a search for burgers and beers. Catching them just as they had opened up, it appeared they had have a crazy Friday evening and were prepping their speed racks and kitchen for the day ahead.
Step in and you'll see a graffiti covered wall to one side with a variety of games such as a foosball table, Jenga, checker board table, and a DJ booth ready to go to keep your drink intake going well into the AM hours. Definitely e place to come to with a few friends as the table space seemed limited and the bar area only seats about 15-20. Your beer and liquor options were fairly standard, with mostly American brews on tap and a few import bottle options.
What really made this worth the wild was the food. You wouldn't expect it from the look, but the food was exquisite, much better than what I was expecting and presented both very stylishly and in abundance. I went with the Buffalo chicken wrap which was nice and plump with just the right amount of kick in the sauce to wash down well with an ice cold brew. Paired with some amazing fries with savory sea salt thrown atop their crispy deep-fried skin, the meal was both fulling and indulging.
To top it all off, the staff was extremely friendly getting the conversations started and making sure any waters were topped off and refills were ready to go. They sound like they have heaps of fun there, certainly guaranteeing me to make a return in the night to enjoy drunken foosball amongst awesome friends.
Definitely a cool spot. I have a friend who lives in the area and we came here for a few drinks and some food.
BEWARE the check in deal is null and void! They honored it anyway but the owner or manager said its old and isn't supposed to be on there any more. I would suggest they get that taken down. Smh. Lol. But shout out to them for still honoring it even if they gave us a hard time
The bartender was cool, the drinks were pretty cheap (the perks of being in jersey) and the food was typical bar food. I got the chicken fingers and my friend got wings. Decent enough. It was pretty empty (we were there midday). I assume it probably gets crowded in the evening. It had a nice neighborhood feel to it as well. Feels like you could get to know your neighbors there.
Friendly local place brimming with Jersey pride. My buddy and I chose it for our Red Bulls game pre-gaming. There are only a couple of places that looked viable, and the other is technically in Newark, so I tried Greenroom.
When we walked in on Saturday afternoon there were only a few other people in the house. The bartender was friendly and very down-to-earth. They had a few beers on tap, including an Oktoberfest, and we went to work. The rosemary wings were tasty and the nachos were decent, too.
Eventually the noise level went up substantially, either because a drunkard walked in or because one of the regulars became progressively drunker. The dude was being seriously obnoxious and the bartenders were rolling their eyes. It was probably the time of day I was here, but I was glad we had a game to get to by the time we were leaving.
Cheap beer, crispy meaty wings, and foosball. Pretty good place to catch a buzz before a Red Bulls game or kill time waiting for a ride from the PATH.
I wish I reviewed this place sooner to remember every detail, but I loved it. I came on a weekday, around 3. It was a nasty rainy day, and I was in the area after work. I was the only person at the bar for a good while, but the bartender, and cook were a riot. Great ladies. I had a ball.
More people started to stroll in, and it became pretty busy. I had several drinks from strangers, and everything became a blur lol. I do recall my drinks were delicious, and the bartender was willing to experiment with anything. I had the beef empanadas, and it was pretty good. Everything was reasonably priced. Now that I remember, I know I will be back lol. I had a great time here.
3.5 stars The Greenroom is a cool-out kind of bar where you can relax and have a good time. Its close proximity to the Path will give it some great exposure as the area is undergoing a decent renovation. This place, hands down, has the best bar food in the area. Their wings (all kinds) are a sure shot and never fail to disappoint. Good place for some cold drinks and a bite and a good mix of different music.
Still never tried their food but I'm a big fan of their semi-regular "Punk Nite" events.
