Great new neighborhood spot for a fresh gyro or souvlaki sandwich/platter, seasoned fries and spinach pie, among other options. Very new and clean appearance, though I wish they had late night hours! Friendly staff and a good amount of seating as well.
Chicken gyro sandwich was juicy and delicious. Spinach pie is a bit small for $5.95, but tasted great nonetheless. I hope this place has some staying power!
My friend and I stopped by The Gyro Shop for a falafel platter to go, and it turned out to be delicious!
Even though we didn't eat it until nearly an hour later, it was still warm. The falafel were well-prepared, and tasted slightly of cumin. The pita was standard, but accompanied by a rich hummus. And of course the fries hit the spot!
I can only imagine that eating in would be even better.
This should be a two star review, but their food is so good. Love their food, hate their delivery. Their beef/lamb gyro meat is so moist and flavorful. Their rice and potatoes and salad are all excellent. I usually get a beef/lamb (traditional) gyro or chicken Souvlaki which is white meat chicken, the only kind I eat. The platter comes with a small salad and your choice of lemon potatoes, rice or fries. It's a lot of food.
What annoys me is they always mess up my order. I ordered delivery on Friday 10/16/2015. Two Pork Gyro platters one with fries and one with rice. I get it, "rice" can sound like "fries." But the woman read the order back to me and had a thick accent but I know she said "rice." Otherwise, why didn't she just say: "two pork gyros, both with fries."
Don't you dare judge me for calling in my ordering via phone and not Seamless, I was driving.
I timed the order to get there shortly after I got home and it did. We opened the bag to find two friggin orders of fries and no rice. This is not the first time they've screwed up the order. I also hate the fact they don't have whole wheat pita. But, I will order from them again, soon. They're food is really delicious.
Among all my visited Greek restaurants serving gyro (only one so far) , this is the best. Just kidding. I have been many Greek places; among them some have super salad, some have great grills. This Gyro Shop has wonderful lunch.
I actually already passed by. But something I saw at a glance through the huge window dragged me back in. It is very busy at lunch time with half the table taken and addition 3-4 people are lining up. It is very clean and well organized. Despite the lining up customers, everyone seems to be relaxed. The elder chef walked around the counter and smile to everyone, and the cashier girls nicely greeted everybody. I just feel very comfortable of being here the moment I stepped in from hot and noisy street. My beef/lamb gyro is so delicious. The wrap is well heated to crispy, and the sweet onion provided extra flavor to the meat. The chicken in my photo looks really good too and I will try it tomorrow.
Updated review: I've since been back many many times and every single time it has been amazing. The first time I went must have been an off day- that day the pork was greasy and hard. Ever since then, it has been ON POINT. It's like tender slides of slightly fatty (and thus tasty) pork packed with meat and flavor. My new go-to place in the area.
Delicious, flavorful beef and lamb gyro platters. For greek food, this is the way to go. Not too expensive for the amount of food you get. The service is good.
I recommend the lemon potatoes with the platter.
I've tried the Athena and greek fries, both are tasty.
Food is delivered very quickly.
Whether it's fair or not, many Greek restaurants serving simple staple dishes will indeed be judged by their beloved lamb gyro. Unfortunately, if you only look this far, the gyro shop might be valued without much enthusiasm, but The Gyro Shop offers much more. Their meze (Side dishes) were delicious and authentic, and I would highly suggest tasting them. I have only ordered from seamless, but I look forward to stopping by and trying some of the entrees on their menu.
This place is good, and a great value (for some items). I've ordered for delivery once, and picked up another time. Both experiences were positive. For delivery, I ordered a pork gyro and spicy feta dip with pita. Unfortunately, they called up and told me they were out of pork so I went with chicken instead. The gyro was very good. I did ask for no tomatoes, however I got tomatoes with no onions, but people make mistakes and the tomatoes were easily removed. The spicy feta dip with pita was also very good, however I did think they were a little conservative with the pita quantity.
A second time I got a greek salad with pork. I found the pork to be delicious and flavorful. The salad itself was good, but not spectacular. They make their own dressing I really liked it, however it comes "pre-mixed" and I would have preferred a little more dressing.
All-in-all, this is a really solid restaurant. You can easily have a full meal here for under $10, which is a rare find anywhere in this area.
