  1. Came here this past Sunday after waiting patiently for two weeks. Longest two weeks of my life!  I had this place bookmarked for at least a month and I am so glad that I finally got a chance to visit. I really didn't know what to expect but upon entering it was everything and more. I think this place was a deli or a grab and go place but turned into a sit down joint. I could be wrong but that's the vibe I picked up. They have about 15-20 seats in the entire place. They also have a mini hot bar that's only accessible to the staff. I believe that's where they store the rice, beans, etc. Anyway, they offer a few fresh juices and for some reason they tasted extra fresh LOL. We ended up ordered 3 juices between two people, 2 OJ's and 1 strawberry mixed with guava? I also tried their hot chocolate and that was very tasty! The key to that is that they warm the milk up the same way they would a cappacino and that made all the difference in the world.

For our entree we ordered a torta sandwich with chicken and fries and their heuvos tapatios (OMFG) so good. They were both so good. I really had intentions of photographing our dishes before consumption but it all happened so fast. It was gone before we knew it.

The only downside and the reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the long wait for our food. I understand a 10 min wait but we waited about 20 mins for our dishes. My guest said that its because they appear to be focusing more on their deliveries which makes sense because a place like this makes most of their money from deliveries but it was a bit upsetting that we had to wait so long.

So to sum it up, we ordered two dishes and 4 drinks and the total was approximately $40 with tip and tax.

TRY IT and YOU'LL THANK ME!

  2. This is a cute cafe on a busy street in Sunnyside. The dining area is quite small, but in the warm months there are a few tables outside. We grabbed a late breakfast here one Sunday on a scorcher. I tried the fresh juice. Wow. It was excellent and I made the right call!

    Standouts:

    Fresh juice
    Not the average breakfast items
    Colorful, festive atmosphere
Small dining area so either call ahead (not sure about the reservation system) or be prepared to wait or find another spot

  3. It's a nice divey and authentic type of Mexican place. Mom and pop shop at its finest. If this was located closer to the city instead of nowhere land, I'm sure this place will kill it.

The Mexican corn was one of the best I had. Not drenched in crema fresca like other places. Grilled to perfection.

He guac is fresh but it lacked salt and lime. I just ended up altering the flavor myself. The lettuce gives off a nice presentation but pretty annoying if you want to scrap the bowl clean.

The steak quesadillas were recommended and it did look good but it was a little bit on the salty side. Also, the steak IMO wasn't seasoned with anything other than salt and pepper.

One issue was the orange juice. $4 for a glass of OJ? The OJ cost as much as a taco?

Now as I write this, I'm rather bothered by this place than impressed. This is not the single $ sign it deserves. It's more like $$.

  4. This part of Sunnyside is so far on the edge that you would really never just happen to come by the Haab. I was getting an oil change on Q blvd, and Yelped across this place. It was a short walk but in a direction I never would have walked in if I was just looking for a bite randomly. And thank goodness for Yelp because my first reaction to the Haab was, where have you been all my life?

The storefront looks like a corner cafe and has outdoor seating. The decor is colorful and full of character, and lots of fun to look at. Even though it's colorful, it still feels very homey and welcoming. The staff has always been friendly, and for such an authentic establishment, everyone speaks English.

I can't say for sure which is my favorite dish. I guess I'm really simple when it comes to breakfast/brunch- It's really hard to find a good, simple huevos a la mexicana, but they do it very well here. The guacamole is amazing and I can never (NEVER) get enough. The oversized tacos are enough to be a meal in itself.

They always have a great assortment of hot and iced drinks. I love their arroz con leche but you have to catch them early. The Mexican hot chocolate is nice and thick. Their fresh iced drinks are always nice and refreshing.

The Haab is definitely a huge hidden gem. I wish I lived closer because it's one of those places you never really get tired of. It almost feels like you're just eating in someone's kitchen. If you're a fan of authentic Mexican, you just need to try this place.

As I'm writing this, I'm not in the City and really craving their guacamole. It's so good!!

  5. How could I not be a fan of a laid-back Mexican cafe with delicious food?

I came here for lunch this past Sunday, and ordered the cheese enchiladas and a Mexican coke. The enchiladas, filled with the perfect amount of cheese and topped with a spicy green sauce, hit the spot. They were also accompanied by a tasty side of rice and beans, and were enough for two meals.

I definitely plan to go back!

  6. The Haab's takeout was so good that I can't WAIT to go back (in person) for their well-hyped brunch and dinner options. Following my fellow Yelpers, I ordered the Enchiladas Suizas, which did not disappoint. The chicken was juicy, well-seasoned, and nicely shredded. The tortillas were so fresh that you could really taste the corn flavor, and their green sauce was spicy and robust, which is how I like my salsa. Also, I always appreciate the presence of Mexican crema AND melted cheese.

Also, shout out to the refried beans and Mexican rice, which made for comforting sides when most restaurants make them bland, forgettable accompaniments. The Haab is also well-priced considering how tasty and large-portioned the dishes. Absolutely a Sunnyside/Woodside gem!

  7. Ordered take out* from here because it's one of the few Mexican places that I had yet to try and I liked the fact that they had elote on the menu. I had their Pollo with Mole y Crema, Fish Tacos and Elote. No, I didn't eat all this food myself – I shared with my brother. I'm not a complete fat-a$$.

Needless to say, it was some of the best delivery I've ever had. Bookmarked!

*I love Yelp's delivery "app" – better than Seamless imho

  8. This place takes cards and splitting the bill was a breeze. It is a cute, independent mom&pop type of restaurant (it is located on the corner). It is a small restaurant so I wouldn't suggest going there with a party of 10; a party of 4 max. The area surrounding the restaurant does not have a lot of traffic which makes getting there, and parking, a breeze. Drinks are only an additional $4 to your meal (includes sangria, mimosa and bellini). In addition to their regular menu they also have a brunch menu. I will most definitely be back to try their other selections.
