This is definitely a New York staple. Lazy to cook? Halal Guys. Came out of work late? Halal Guys. A little broke from paying rent but still wanna have a good meal? Halal Guys. Just got out of the club? Halal Guys. Street food feels? Halal Guys. Friends visiting from out of state? Halal Guys. Just because? Halal Guys.
At any point in time, there will be a line; a long line at that. It won't matter because a) it is worth the wait; and b) them Halal Guys are pretty fast so you won't be waiting that long.
You can never go wrong with Combo over Rice. $7 for a meal plus leftovers for the next day. Surprisingly leftover Halal Guys is actually pretty good (don't judge). Always put some of that amazing white sauce. If you like spicy, don't be too confident and slather a lot of the hot sauce. I have made that mistake and I could barely eat my food. Just add if you need more.
This is the original location located on 53rd and 6th. I went here on a Friday night I was expecting to be packed but the line was only about 10 minutes. The food was amazing I had the combo plate which is mixed with beef and chicken for only $7 you can't beat that!! The white sauce is amazing and they let you put as much as you want on it. The staff was also nice and quick this place lived up to its hype. I highly recommend you go here if your in NY.
The hype is real, this is one my favorite places to get some cheap grub. The lamb and chicken platter with their red and white sauce is the most delicious things you can eat on a cold winter night.
Simple yet flavorful. The meat is perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. I got mine extra spicey and the sauce definitely has a good kick. The prices are reasonable and the service is excellent. The guys are friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place for a quick bite.
It was a huge portion of food for only $7. Way too much for 1 person. Tried the mix of lamb & chicken plate (bowl) and it was really good! A little bland. The white sauce was like ranch dressing and the red sauce tasted like BBQ sauce to me and I didn't like it at all. A little heat would've been welcome.
Huge lines at 10pm on Friday night but there are 3 stands very close together so you have a good chance of getting food within about 10 min.
If you're looking for cheap eats that'll fill you up and isn't a hot dog, pretzel or pizza, this is the place to go.
This place you definitely have to try when visiting the city !! This is the "real chicken and rice stand" according to my friends and I. We won't go to any others lol. What can I say? Their chicken and rice is so tasty.. My boyfriend gets the combo and loves that also. And you can put as much white sauce or hot sauce as you please. Definitely be careful with the hot sauce, it is super spicy! There is usually a line, but it goes very quickly. The only thing my boyfriend and I weren't too happy about is that the drinks are not very cold. Either dig to find a drink you want within the ice (sometimes the ones you want aren't cold), or go to a different stand nearby where you are guaranteed to get a nice cold drink. That's something you can't play around with on these hot summer days in the city !! Other than that I absolutely recommend this place… warning: you will probably crave it all the time once you try it !
I was excited to finally get some street food. This was the first time I took the entire family. Since we spend a portion of our summers in Los Angeles, we were very excited to finally try some east coast halal food. I am going to assume that every truck has different quality. We tried the chicken and the lamb, freshly cooked but they had such a bland taste. Our daughter was okay with her hot dog, but the pretzels were bland, cold with zero flavor. I can't wait to try it again, but the few meals we had here were not worth the $. Fortunately there are 100s of delis and good pizza shops nearby.
I've had better halal. These guys are rude and sloppy and don't make the best halal. Period. Point Blank. People hype up everything in NYC. Don't believe the hype.
