Hidden salad and sandwich gem right in the middle of Greenpoint.
I've probably walked by this place dozens of times and didn't realize it was there until my friend brought me there for lunch.
Halcyon is a catering operation, but they also open their doors to the public for (mostly) takeout lunch. There is a small counter with some stools, but why not take your lunch over to Transmitter Park instead?
The menu offers soup, salads, sandwiches, and a few sweet options (cookies and brownies). Any of the sandwiches can be made as a salad. Fare is a little bit on the pricier side. Most of the sandwiches or salads with meat will run you around $10-$12. Veggie friendly options start at around $5-$7.
I got the Halcyon Greens (arugula, romaine, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, balsamic vinaigrette) with grilled shrimp. The shrimp were great, comparable to how they prepare it at Brooklyn Label. The salad itself was pretty standard. For $12 I guess I'd expect some additional ingredients (maybe figs or blue cheese), but it was a pretty good salad. The curry chicken salad sounds pretty good, so I may try that next time.
If you've tapped everything in the area for lunch options, give Halcyon a try!
