  1. My friend and I were camping out for the Balmain release, and had been at an event at Space Ibiza. He randomly found this place on Yelp, so we decided to stick to one destination and come here. The bar looks like a hog pit, very cowboy and roadside themed. There were tic tac toe boards drawn on the bartop, which was a chalkboard!
The bartender was a lot of fun, she enjoyed having conversations with all the customers. There was a $5 PBR and shot special- we got 4 of those and had a blast. $5 beers and shots??? We had a fun time arguing over different music with a group behind us that kept changing tunes on the jukebox. Definitely another interesting night.

  2. Came in here with a hammered birthday boy and a posse about 7-8 people deep. They managed to get us a table and we ordered up a bunch of set meals. The food was not memorable, but I remember it being filling, decently reasonable given the Chelsea neighborhood, and the service was excellent. Not sure i'd come back, but certainly not a trainwreck by any means. Had a good time.

  3. Late on a Sunday, after an endless bus ride back from Washington, DC, I wandered around the high 20s in a daze. I needed food, and most places were already shuttered.

Enter the Hog Pit, where a few unfortunate tourists were making their way through a very ordinary tap list while some old rock songs played.

I worry that some of these people might be from the Southern and Western parts of the country, and think that this is what we consider actually BBQ in the city. It's not. It's mediocre chow saved by its location and the bright lights. We have much better options in Brooklyn and Downtown.

Like many things in this fair city, we don't put out the things for guests. So this is not the place for the best BBQ (although Blue Country, which is nearby, isn't bad).

  4. Need to catch a game? The Hog Pit is a decent spot in the city for a pitcher and a bite, but the food isn't beyond what I would categorize as A-OK.

Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere?

A classic sports bar with a quirky vibe, The Hog Pit has abundant TVs and a fleet of servers who will keep your drinks full and the food coming out hot. What more could you ask for? Star Granted.

Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?

Based on what some sport's bars are starting to charge in the city you might be reluctant to take a peak at the price portion of the menu – but fear not. Hog Pit's prices are no different than what you might find in essentially any other big city, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that my Pulled Pork Sliders of reasonable size came to no more than $9.00. Reasonable. Star Granted.

Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?

My Pork Sliders, which the menu pointed out was a house specialty, were nothing that blew me away, but they were nothing weak either. Not too saucy but to a degree reliant upon the sauce for a lot of the flavor, everything came together nicely in buns that weren't oversized relative to the meat portion. I might ask that Hog Pit focus a bit more on the flavor of the pork as opposed to leaning on sauce, but my preference could simply come from having spent the past three years in Dallas. Single Star Granted.

Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?

Hog Pit is a decent option as I touched on, but there are so many great options in close vacinity that I can't say for certain that I'd be a regular at Hog Pit given the chance. No Star Granted.

  5. "Awesomesauce"

This place is great and has it all. Came here on a wednesday night because the Flatiron Hall was waaaaay too crowded to exist as a human bring and Hog pit was a perfect choice. It is a sports bar/restaurant with darts and foosball that does not  have a high BRO factor. Plus there are chalkboard bartops with readily available chalk, so you can let you alcohol-induced creative juices flow.

The two female bartenders were great, quick, and animated. The restaurant have many options of drafts and bottles of beer. PLUS, it serves 40oz of Colt 45, HOLLA! There is a bartender's special, which includes a well shot with PBR. The  crawfish chowder is a must have and I wish that I ordered a bowl instead of a cup.

I cannot wait to go back!!!!

  6. A great dive bar to play foosball and grab beers. In a neighborhood characterized with fancy grocery stores selling white truffles, whiskey bars, and Danny Meyer restaurants, it's a respite to find a dive bar that caters to those who just want a break from fine dining (and the prices that go along with it). The Hog Pit is a great place for people to hang out and just enjoy cheap drinks (though not the best) and play some foosball (although you'll need quarters). There is also a photobooth in the back, and you can take some photos with your buddies.

It's nothing fancy, but it gets the job done!

  7. Texas A&M and a Buffalo Bills bar.  Strange combo, but 3 cheers for the owner!

How to get on my bad side:
    * Serve average food
    * Have a room full of TV's with sports on and play music
    * Have a cute server that pays me no attention!

    1.  Nachos with Chili: terrible chips along with taste-like-Hormel chili ($13, 1.5 stars)
    2.  Fried Pickles: I think they were made from frozen ($7, 2.0 stars)
    3.  Chicken Wings: decent, but far from the best.  ($11, 3.0 stars)

Nice peeps and good drinks saved the day to put this into the average category.

  8. I usually go above and beyond during birthday gatherings, especially if it's my brother's birthday. Anyway, I recall coming here for their cheap drinks – PBRs & shots of whiskey. It was pretty empty when our group arrived – perhaps it was because the sun was still out. I'll have to come back here and try out their menu.
