The Hot Grill

Typical old school Jersey joint. I'm shocked I've never heard about this place before, but so glad I was introduced to it!
Great hot dogs, burgers and fries that are super fried, but who would want them any other way?! Can't wait to come back and try more.
I get it, this place has been around for years and its cheap but definitely not the best. I mean, yeah its good but I rather spend a little bit more money and get better quality food.
We were in the area and starving so we went to good old yelp on where to grab some food quickly and head home to watch game 6. Yeah, just like you I was disappointed that Golden State didn't win that night. Back to the food, we walked in and there were about 4 young boys behind that register that clearly didn't want to be there After looking at the menu we finally decided what we wanted and order.
We got the texas weiner, cheeseburger, and chili fries. Now warning we did take this home so it was luke warm by the time we got home. I must say that even if we ate there I don't think I would have enjoyed the food anyway, Like I said before, its not the worst food but its not the best. Its what it is cheap decent food.
I have continued my north jersey hot dog tour this week with a stop at an old classic, the Hot Grill. It's been a long time since I was here and a good chance some adult beverages were involved last time so thought I would try again. Very similar to Jersey Johnnies but I think they are an offshoot of hot grill. Hot grill is much bigger but the dogs all the way tasted exactly the same, same bun, same chili and onions. Slightly sweet so I don't love it but not terrible by any stretch. Ketchup was way better but the fries was a pretty small helping. Cash only joint but there is an atm there. Sauce not as good as McCobbs but this is an old school jersey favorite so worth a stop if you are in the area for sure. Came for lunch and lots of people working the counter so they get you in and out pretty quickly.
Gotta admit they have some good juicy and filling dogs!!! Seems like a good dog with toppings can set you back $2-$3 greenbacks.
I stopped in yesterday as I was running some errands in the area and needed a quick bite. The parking lot is big, so it's easy to pop in and pop out if needed.
A lot of tips rave about the "all the way" but I'm stubborn and ordered 1 with onions ketchup and 2 with chili and sour kraut $8 total! Again the hot dog was simply juicy and flavorful. I would have preferred grilled onions, but they were nicely diced and raw. The chili was ok, not spicy as I hoped for so I didn't really get a spice and sour I was looking for with adding kraut. The buns were nice and in the end it all tied in together as a filling quick bite.
I will def return to try the "all the way"! Ohhhh yea the menu can be misleading if you're trying to figure out what toppings they have. I hope you enjoy as I did if you go. Good dogs here folks!
One frenchie one!!! I've read some other reviews, the negatives are interesting. Let's restate the obvious, Hot Grill isn't a fine dining establishment and it is by no means fast food. We are talking about good old comfort food. Burgers, dogs and fountain sodas.
I grew up in the area and spent many late nights after going big at Hot Grill. The cheeseburgers are awesome, simply delicious. Cheese fries and gravy, a miracle "drug" ensuring no hang-over the next day. Chili dogs all the way, risky @ 2 am but fabulous after a ball game in the afternoon.
This place is a landmark. An absolute must for any foodie.
The service is classic, fast and loud!
Prices are spot on for what you are paying for (remember cash-only).
Last, this place is always clean. Even the trays that food is served on. There is a lot to say about that. Clean tables, clean bathrooms, clean everything reflect the pride that the owners and workers have in the business.
A friend from the area recommended this place very highly, and I finally got to stop in last night. Hot Grill far exceeds my admittedly low expectations that it would be a total dump for drunk food and not much more. It's still certainly not gourmet, but the fried dogs and very prominent cinnamon flavor in the meat sauce work really well. I couldn't eat here all the time, but totally hit the spot!
Pretty good hot dogs. If you like chili with your dogs this really is the place for you. Chili seasoned well, not spicy but still flavorful.
I'm not a fan of thick-cut fries so I can leave the gravy and cheese fries out for next time, but they should satisfy those who like this variety. I really preferred the onion rings – they were absolutely delicious.
Price is definitely right, and service is speedy, even if not the warmest. I like getting take-out because even just one minute in this restaurant has you coming out smelling like a greasy diner.
Between this and Rutt's Hutt in the same town, I personally prefer Rutt's for its more diversified hot dog options (and it just tastes better in my opinion). But it's all subjective. Either one, you'll have a good time.
Cash only; plenty of parking.
Few thotty pleasures I have in life: tHOT 97, tHOT Pockets, tHOT Cheetos and… tHOT Grill.
One of the still-standing, original Texas Wiener joints in the Greater Paterson area (the HOME of the Texas Wiener, by the way. Yeah, look it up dude)… They've been around for umpteen years, and still have a growing fan base from year to year. Your standard "grill" joint, whipping up dogs and burgers loaded with chili, cheese, & onions…. You know, all the stuff that you just love to indulge in, until your bottom is glued to the potty and you're boo-booing profusely. 🙂
Excellent wieners [Pause] and burgers. Their chili is the kicker (Call me "MAN Fieri")… It's thin, but flavor-ridden. So delicious. The wieners have a nice toothy-ness, but are extremely moist. The burgers, same deal. No crazy frills in terms of SUPER meat quality and SPECIAL cuts. Just really basic food, done RIGHT. They make a decent hot roast beef sammich w/ gravy. They've also got some MEAN French Fries (get 'em 'all the way'), and a slew of other items like salads, soups, and even their signature chili in cups. But the chances of you going there for anything BUT their chili-laden burgers/dogs? Slimmer than Meek Mill's chances of winning a whisper contest.
It's definitely not the grub you wanna have with someone you're just starting to date/impress, because there's no dainty way to eat it. You've just got to GET IN THERE with all of that drippy, gooey, cheesy, chili-y, delicious food. You're not eating their wieners right if it's not all up in your beard. Yes, that's for you bearded ladies, as well. 🙂
