I have been a fan of the Little Beet since I first heard of them opening near me. It's great to see them expanding by opening locations throughout the city, Long Island and of course here, at the Pennsy. Little Beet serves delicious healthy food relatively quickly and inexpensively. The Pennsy is the perfect location for them to serve so many people on the go!
Their protein, sides and salad options are relatively straightforward where you can mix and match to put a nice little healthy plate together. They also offer cold press juices if you are really in a rush, or juicing, or rushed to juice! I noticed they added "rolls" which are oversized sushi rolls/burritos wrapped in nori and brown rice.
I think something like the Salmon Tartare roll is a deal at ~$10 considering most sushi places serve "special rolls" in the $12-20 range. It comes with ponzu and chipotle aioli dipping sauces. They also offer a Banh Mi roll, and a Tofu Shroom roll that are similar concepts.
Play on Little Beet!
The little beet needs to get a little better.
I wasn't blown away. Honestly I felt the portion was a little small and flavors were lacking a bit and my food was a little thrown together in a rushed manor. For the price, I expected more. The staff could have been friendlier too.
Its competition for this organic healthy salad option is right down the street at Juice Shop and their portions are much better and the staff is nicer. I'd honestly rather go there.
But I came here so I might as well tell you how it went. I got the chicken salad. It was good. Not amazing. I probably wouldn't get it again with so many other options in the area.
I will say the delivery of my food was quick! My name was called almost instantly which was great. Time is money. But I would rather they take the time and make it better.
Definitely a good choice if you absolutely feel like you must have a healthy option (or are gluten-free), but after hearing a fair amount about the Little Beet, I wasn't particularly impressed with the food.
I tried the salmon poke (so hot right now) roll. It lacked both flavor and structural integrity. Someone else described it as a sushirito, and that's exactly right — except nori does not have nearly the holding power of a tortilla. Within two bites, the guts of the roll were all over the container. (Definitely don't try to eat this on NJ Transit, you will be sorry.) The bigger problem, though, was that there was no seasoning whatsoever; even just a hit of salt would have made the whole thing a bit more edible.
I might try it again, if only to balance out the inevitable donut purchase from Cinnamon Snail. But there are a couple much better options in Pennsy at the moment.
As I try to work my way through the Pennsy vendors, The Little Beet seemed like a good option for light lunch.
I ordered the Banh Mi Roll, and being previously unexperienced with The Little Beet, expected a more round and rolled version of a banh mi, but instead was treated to something more like the sushi-rito, with banh mi filling. I was handed a pre-made roll (it was around 2 and I had clearly missed the lunch rush) and was on my way.
The chicken was a little too shredded/mushy and reminded me of a canned meat consistency. It didn't really have a lot of flavor either. I ended up very much needing the soy sauce and pink (not sure what the name was) sauce that it came with to add some flavor to each bite.
The wrap was also a bit disappointing. The seaweed didn't seem to make it all the way around so I had a seam of bare rice along the bottom that made it tricky to eat and necessitated careful maneuvering of the wrap until the last bite to prevent it from becoming a bowl dish.
Overall, for $11 I was a little disappointed and would rather have just had a real banh mi sandwich or a sushi-rito of higher quality.
