The Little Food Inn

“It's a BYOB and it gets very crowded sometimes so it's good to go really early or late if you are going on a weekend night.”

“The place itself is adorable, it honestly feels like a cozy Vermont inn (I actually can't wait until it snows so I can go and get the full effect!)”

“We started with a super good light and fresh homemade fried calamari tossed with general tso's sauce and accented with some fresh strawberries.”

  1. Here today for lunch, place was hopping but i overheard the woman behind the counter say today was prom day.  Cool little place I never noticed before, decorated with lots of old signs. For lunch you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table.

Food was very good, service was very good as well. Will definitely be back.

  2. This renovated Friendly Ice Cream Shop location is generating quite a buzz in my Wayne office. Curious, I decided to bite the bullet and was more than happy I did. Literally, the only deductions I found were cramped parking and a decent wait, totally understandable considering how good the place is. Ordered the lobster BLT and was pretty blown away. In interest of full disclosure, lobster roll is one of my favorite foods, period and I order BLTs more often for lunch than just about anything. Combine the two and there was no way I wouldn't rave. Portions were more than generous, service was polite, friendly and attentive and prices were quite reasonable.

Places like these perplex me because they really are so rare in our area. You have diners, delis, bagel shops and assorted ethnic restaurants but very few places take an eclectic, casual approach to lunch and execute it this well. The formula seems simple enough and honestly, if the menu offerings were half as varied, I would have been fine. There is literally something on there for everyone and I was hard pressed to find something I wouldn't have been thrilled to eat.

Anyway, enough of my gushing. As anyone reading their numerous spectacular reviews or has tried this little gem of a restaurant knows, Little Food Inn is the real deal. Even if it wasn't a short ride from my office, I think it would be well worth the drive. Kudos.

    Next stop……dinner.

  3. I came here for lunch the other day because my friend suggested it and I am so glad I discovered this place!  The decor and ambiance is adorable and almost feels like you are dining in someone's living room.

I had the Tuscan tuna melt, which was delicious!  It was served open faced and was so big that I couldn't even finish it (as much as I tried).  My friend had the avocado club wrap which she said would have been better if it didn't have so much mayo. Other than that, the service was great and everyone working there was very friendly.  The menu has so many delicious options that it was hard to choose.  I will definitely be back to try something else out!

  4. This is my new favorite place! We have been here 5 times, and we are blown away with our meals every time. I usually try to get something from the specials menu since they won't always have it, and everything is always so delicious and creative. Some of the best things I've had are the lunch lobster roll, the "best breakfast sandwich", the brunch burger, and the Greek calamari. The portions are huge, the prices are fair, and the service is great too. It's a BYOB and it gets very crowded sometimes so it's good to go really early or late if you are going on a weekend night.

  5. I'm going with a solid 4.25 stars here for the following reasons.  We made reservations and were seated immediately despite the restaurant being full. Our byo bottles were opened once we sat and emus were passed around. The atmosphere is really homey and the food is more comfort vs refined. The portions are very generous and taste is all spot on. The menu is clearly split between Italian and Mediterranean. We went with a flat bread appetizer that had fig, goat cheese, arugula, and prosciutto which was all spot on. For an entree I went with the Italian pot roast and noodles served in a gravy sauce and it was everything I was hoping for and more. Lots of tender meat and delicious pasta that I actually couldn't finish.

I'm looking forward to coming back, well done Little Food Inn..

  6. Its pretty hard to write a yelp review when you are at a loss for words.  Wifey and I visited for the first time last night and had an awesome meal!  To start off when you walk in you immediately feel cozy deep down on the inside of your being….  Cozy like you would feel if you were in Vermont and found an Inn on cold, windy,  snowy night.  The colors, wall art, and lighting are totally perfect (rustic, classic, fresh, unique and warm).

We had finished a movie in Kinnelon at 9:36 PM and arrived to the  restaurant just about 8 minutes before closing, expecting to be turned away the exact opposite occurred.  We were invited in by some of the nicest owners and staff I have ever met.  I can say that most restaurants I visit the staff and even the owners don't really care about your experience.  Most hope you will have a nice time and come back but this was a level of pride, dedication, and excellence that blew us away.

We started with a super good light and fresh homemade fried calamari tossed with general tso's sauce and accented with some fresh strawberries.  This took the concept of an old standard and made it better in a way I would never have thought of…Appetizer A+

Then comes something I did not expect in a million years THE BEST LOBSTER ROLL I HAVE EVER EVER EVER EVER HAD.  (reminding me of Jack Woltz in Godfather One "was the greatest I've ever had, and I've had 'em all over the world!!!!")

Having been on a life long search for the perfect lobster roll I have found it.  This is after trying one in every major town in Cape Cod, Jersey shore and all that NYC has to offer this one was by farrrrrrrrrr the best.

First time in my life I thought there was enough lobster meat to satisfy my lobster addicted brain.  Lobster meat was perfectly cooked, perfect mix of claw and  tail meat, perfect amount of mayo, perfect toasted roll, perfect addition of BACON!  yes bacon, never in my short lobster loving life have I seen or thought of adding bacon to lobster salad and it elevated to a level of gustatory heaven I did not know the frontal cortex of my brain was capable of achieving.   In fact, during every massive bite I had to close my eyes for 2 or 3 seconds  it was so good.  I don't want to stop writing about this lobster roll but I guess I need to move on.  The fries that came with the lobster roll were perfect.  SO many restaurants don't get the fries right but this is not the case @ the Little Food Inn.  Supa crispy, light, salty, and skinny fries.  Dinner A+

In summary I can't wait to come back.   The menu is massive, unique, fresh, exciting, and diverse.  The staff made us feel good on a humanistic level. The site is beautiful, cozy and fun and leaves you wanting for more!

BYOB and I think a reservation would help since its very popular!

  7. Update:  I hear that the old vacant building that used to be Friendly's was bought by these people and they are opening it to be the new Little Food Cafe…

  8. I came here tonight with friends of ours who are friends with the owners and honestly I can't say enough good things about this place!
First of all the vibe is awesome. It's so different than any other place around here.. Just comfort and feels very home-y. I loved the decor, it's like modern country.. So adorable!
The food was to die for! I had the special of stuffed flounder and shrimp. It was seriously amazing and they give you a good amount of food too. The dinner comes with a salad. We also got a couple of appetizers, Philly cheesesteak fries and prosciutto fig and goat cheese flatbread.seriously everything was great! The owners are the sweetest people, the host and waitresses were very efficient. The owners were telling us they are in the process of making an outdoor area and I'm so excited to come there to sit outside in the summer! I would highly recommend this place to anyone who just loves awesome food, service and ambiance!!!!
