I love this place! All signature rolls are delicious for pick up, delivery or eat in.
Killer scallop roll – by fair the most creative and delicious roll EVER! The seared scallop makes it slightly warm with different textures throughout the roll. My only complaint is that there is never enough!
Billy Joel is a great option for tuna lovers with lots of it!
Miso eggplant is grilled and so amazing with their signature miso sauce.
Gyoza is always a safe and taste app option.
Small restaurant but cute and fast. Must go to.
Solid sushi. Was craving "traditional" sushi rolls like spicy tuna crunchy salmon etc. my husband found this place in our neighborhood. Very good fish quality. Tasty specialty roll I had (sexy shrimp) which I substituted mango for the cucumber. My husband had the sushi and sashimi which was a nice portion! Customer service could have been better. Staff weren't friendly and didn't engage us at all as we sat at the bar. But for a quick casual sushi fix I'd definitely come back for more!!
Menu was intriguing and offered a lot of unique options. Ordered for delivery, and decided to stick with some more standard items. Between another person and I, we got spicy tuna roll, eel and avacado roll, avacado salad and a California roll. I tried everything with the exception of the Cali roll, and was pretty disappointed overall.
The eel was overcooked and chewy, however I found their eel sauce to be above average so that was able to mask it. I found myself removing the eel and just eating the remaining avocado with the eel sauce. The spicy tuna roll was perhaps the most disappointing. I find that some places have spicy tuna with larger, fresh chunks of fish while others seems to be most of a paste-like consistency. Unfortunately this was more like the latter. The fish didn't taste fresh at all. Not spoiled or anything, just sub par.
The avocado salad was actually quite good and was the lone highlight of the meal. I really liked the sesame vinaigrette so would recommend that if you're getting it.
I don't know if it was what we ordered, or if this is more of a sit in place, but this place didn't do it for me. Won't rule it out if I'm in the area and want to try some different items.
Sushi & Drinks That Is Great For A Date!
After looking for a Sushi spot in Union Square on Yelp for a few minutes I came across the loop and when I got here it did not disappoint.
This place is very narrow, no frills, and filled with 2 person tables so I wouldn't suggest coming here with a large group but for a date it is perfect. The entire place was filled with couples out on a date. We got the edamame which was delicious and 3 rolls and two drinks.
Windy Way Roll – The best of the 3 rolls which had Spicy Crunchy Salmon , mango, red tobiko, and creamy cucumber relish
Specialty Roll – Salmon and Jalapenos… etc
Yellow Tail Scallion Roll
The rolls were all great and the cocktail drinks were really good too. They are all asian themed and worth trying.
In short:
– Cozy spot great for a date
– Good Sushi
Solid sushi! The interior isn't the chicest or anything special but it is welcoming. The food was pretty good. I wouldn't get the crispy rice again it's not the best and a bit too crispy. The Big Mac was really good and different – layered in squares. They have a lot of unique specialty rolls that really make it worth going. The spice girl was also great and was made with seared tuna. I would definitely go back.
The only reason I would be trying a hole in the wall sushi place all the way on the east side would be A. I happen to be in the hood B. I wanted to try something new and the reviews on Yelp were pretty good. Both criteria were met when I happened to find myself starving on an early Friday evening. The problem I have with this place was not the food, it was definitely above average, it was the horrible service that ruined my experience. I walked in and was literally the only person there when they sat me at a table by the window. Now normally this would be a good thing but it was freezing out and I could feel the wind coming through the window. I moved down a few tables but the waitress came over and told me I couldn't sit there because it was a four top and there were only two of us. I totally understand this logic but it was 5:30 on a Friday and there was NOT A SOUL THERE. Fine, she then moved us to the worst two top in the back by the bathroom. At this point I was really ready to leave but I was too hungry. Trying to get anyone to wait on us proved to be another chore. There were about 4 servers standing over by the sushi bar gabbing away while we unsuccessfully tried to flag them down. When we finally did get service we ordered edamame, cold sake, the 3rd avenue role and some vegetable yuki udon. Like I said, the food was very good but my advice would be to order take out and save yourself from the rude non-existent service.
So here's the scoop on The Loop:
This place isn't fancy, pretty small and has a very unpretentious vibe. Definitely good, chill vibes here.
The special rolls are pricey $14-$16 but the regular sushi rolls are pretty cheap around $5-$6. The difference between the special rolls and regular rolls is SIGNIFICANT. I got the Billy Joel which was full of delicious tuna, eel, salmon, avocado and was very filling. I also got a spicy salmon roll that was very small–minimal salmon and very little rice. Even though the special rolls are pricier, if you want to be satisfied by your meal, you should definitely get a special roll.
The reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is because it took a very long time for our sushi to come out. Other than that, I liked my special roll a lot and would come back!
Good variety of sushi to choose from! Actually this is the most tailored-made sushi I've ever ordered. You could pick any of their suggestions and add as many ingredients as you wish (of course paying an extra) and also decide the type (whether inside out, hand roll, etc)
Ingredients are very fresh as well!
