The Maze
“Eric always greets me when I walk in and takes very good care of me the entire time I'm there he's seriously the best and is really sweet lol.”
“The cocktail menu of course has your standards cocktails like most places however the difference is that these included some that the bartender, Trung made himself.”
“I did notice that they make drinks smaller & maybe a tee bit less strong for happy hour though, but this drink is solid for $9 HH price tag.”

Umm. Long story, short and brief..
I don't know what to say. Not my type of scene on weekend night but I felt like I was in a fight club arena with the gated sections of seatings. You can see people are seated through and through.. Against the gated sections leaning their back against it.. Umm. Let me poke a chopstick through your a***hole. Let's not be rude here but horrible seating layout.
I am not going to deny the fact that I do like the actual bar setting. Pretty chic and neat concept. Pretty much sat there when we decided to come back a second time. It was way too packed earlier upon arrival. This would probably be a last resort if I was plastered enough. Otherwise, I wouldn't think of this place.
I've been here several times enough that I feel justified to write this review. I've been here with larger + smaller groups & the space has always been accommodating to us. This place gets a four star rating, simply because the food + drinks are delicious.
Come during happy hour from 5:30-8 for $8-9 cocktails and $8-11 dishes. My favorite dish here for In-between drinks hungriness is the sweet & spicy chicken with fries. Really good chicken with an amazing white sauce on the side that is unbelievably addicting. I really want to know what on the earth is in that white sauce.
My favorite drink here is the Floral Lychee. I did notice that they make drinks smaller & maybe a tee bit less strong for happy hour though, but this drink is solid for $9 HH price tag. Floral + lime + lychee hints equals the best drink to order here.
A few cons. The spacing is weird. I wish the beautiful bar was a main centerpiece instead of being off on the side. Also servers take forever to notice you. I wish they would pay attention to the tables, without us having to wave them down. Those problems however can be solved. I would definitely come back here again.
This place looks nice but the drink and food selection is by far sub par. This street has way too many other places with better food. It's like they are specifically trying to not have Korean menu items.
Went with a couple friends. Looks like a new place. Maybe because t was Sunday night, we were the only table. The venue is not so loud and good for friends to sit and chat.
We got lychee soju and pineapple soju. Both were fruity and sweet but liked the lychee one slightly more because it is thicker.
Also ordered the sweet potato fires. Very thin and crisps almost like sweet potato chips, can't stop eating.
The cream kimchi spaghetti was kind of new. It's like a cream pasta but with more spicy and a bit sour taste from the kimchi. Worth a try if you like the kimchi.
Great bar! Albert, our bartender, provided us with awesome service and even let us go behind the bar for a bit. Definitely recommend this place!
I love this place. Staff is always friendly to me. Manager is nice and I love the bar. The lighting and design is really pretty.
Ive eaten here a few time and I have to say that the kimchi fried rice is the best dish Ive had.
Warning: like any bar in k town on the weekends this place is so packed. I usually come here on the weekdays and its so chill and a great spot to hang out and unwind with friends.
What a bummer.
The best thing about KTOWN is that it's constantly changing. New bars, lounges and restaurants are constantly opening and popping out of nowhere.
This is not a new bar you'll want to visit and it's disappointing to say I didn't experience what many other Yelpers have reviewed.
I was originally contacted by Han on Instagram to come check out the new place. I was excited as I frequent KTOWN often enough to know about the trending bars.
We were promptly seated by someone who appeared to be a manager.
The trouble begins here.
We waited 15 minutes after taking about 15 minutes to decide what we wanted, before I had to haul down a waiter so we could receive water and order.
We chose the combo of 4 soju bottles and 2 small plates of nachos and fries. I also ordered a lychee martini. We figured bars should have good or decent bar food, right? Not here.
We first received our nachos and 2 bottles of soju. The nachos were served with sour cream, guacamole and salsa. The sour cream, guac and salsa were less than OK so I took one bite and downed a few shots of soju. I was anticipating my fries so didn't mind the wait.
Half an hour later, I'm hauling the manager who also appeared to be our server for my lychee martini BC at that point I'm looking at the bar and the bartenders are talking to each other and cracking jokes.
He comes by and states he will bring out our fries and my martini soon. (Pretty sure he was a bit tipsy at that point. He was slurring his words)
Fast forward forty minutes later. No fries. No martini.
Annoyed I ask another waiter to cancel my martini and head over to the bar to find the managerserver.
This part gets interesting. He WRAPS his arm around me and DRUNKLY states, "we ran out of fries so I put in calamari for you."
So the funny part about that statement and situation is I'm pretty uncomfortable with strangers touching me and I have seafood allergies. HA. HA.
A few moments later an order of fried chicken comes out as, "service."
Dry, over fried just whatever fried chicken.
My friends and I are underwhelmed so I once again have to get up to find a server (none of which stopped by our table to see if we were ok) and ask for our check.
He, who was the same server that I asked to remove the martini, produces a receipt that states martini, combo and calamari. Minutes later the manager/server comes by to only produce a new receipt that says combo.
I understand it was a Friday but the service was unacceptable.
Oh and if you're curious, I went over to Mui to get my fries because I've never received anything less than stellar service there.
Came to Maze and it ended up being quite an ordeal. The interior is really interesting and stunning when you walk in. The bar has some really cool lighting set up, and the ceiling has a really interesting maze design. Design was oddly inconsistent – booths in the middle had fences around them, and the seating in the back had more private booths. There was a dining section in the front as well that looked completely different design-wise from the rest of the restaurant. Later in the night the bar gets a bit rowdy.
The actual food and drinks themselves are very good! Maze also serves a really good selection of bar nibbles (fries, etc). Lots of the menu selections seemed genuinely very creative. Drinks come heavily garnished and are fun to drink; $12-14 a pop. The concept is Korean-Mexican fusion, which basically means a lot of kimchi + cheese combos. Apps around $10+ and entrees around $15-25. A little overpriced for what I was expecting to pay in Koreatown or for Mexican food.
Kimchi cream pasta: Standout of the night, this was absolutely delicious. The sauce is spicy but has a rather subtle kimchi flavor. Definitely my favorite and would recommend.
The quesadillas: pretty spicy but otherwise not really memorable. The portions are rather small given what you pay. It's a confusing mix of flavors – kimchi acidity does not go well with sour cream.
Calamari: pretty good! Comes fried with some salad on the side. Not really very memorable but chewy and nice to snack on. If it matters, it is only the ring calamari, there are none of the tentacle calamari pieces.
Vegan roll: Very perplexing combo with the avocado and the tomato. Texture-wise they are both very creamy so it ends up tasting rather bizarre.
Where the night fell apart was the service. Food coming out was so slow and a complete disaster. Our dishes came more than 20 minutes apart each which took forever given how many we had ordered. We got our drinks one by one over the course of more than an hour as well, and I don't think more than 1 person had a drink at a time because they would finish it before the next person's drink came. I felt like we spent the vast majority of our time at Maze waiting.
I'm conflicted here because the owner was very nice and offered to comp us a free round of drinks as well as comp one entree that we had waited more than an hour for. It was a solid effort on his part. However, we realized that getting another round of drinks, even for free, would mean waiting another hour for sluggish, staggered drinks service. When we got the check they had forgotten to comp our entree as well. At this point we had been there more than two hours for dinner and had gotten rather fed up.
I think Maze is a solid place if you intend to sit and nurse a drink for hours, but unless they improve the service I don't think I can see myself every coming back.
