We happened in here after getting dinner across the street on a Friday night. The interior of the place looked appealing so we decided to give it a try. They had a few interesting beers on tap and a list of cocktails that looked like they would be good. Unfortunately, when we went to order from the bartender we were told that they were out of ice. This meant that we wouldn't be trying any of the cocktails. They were also out of a couple of the beers on the draft list.
We chose from what was available and hung around for a little while. They had a hockey game on the tvs and the crowd that was there to watch seemed to be enjoying themselves. Shortly after the game ended the bartender called last call around 11:30 pm. I imagine this had something to do with their lack of ice and kegs, but it being my only visit I can't know if this is common practice. We counted our losses and moved on. Overall, interesting to look at but ultimately a disappointing experience.
This is a great spot to come watch football- they have five decently sized TVs over the bar and a couple others. Seating is comfortable and it's quite a nice space. The atmosphere is very friendly and the bartenders are great. Unfortunately, the food is expensive and quite mediocre. Definitely stick to drinks. Happy hour isn't the best deal in town, but if you ask they usually have a couple beers on tap for $5.
Really nice spot to grab a quick beer, although it is a bit on the pricy side. They have a good amount of beers on tap but not an overwhelming selection.
They had a comedy club going on while I was at the bar, stopping in for a quick pint.
The wood interior of the bar is really something interesting.
I didn't grab food while I was here, so I can't speak to that.
Stopped in to The Montrose the other night before attending an event at the Barclays Center. The decor is awesome. It almost looks like the ceiling and some walls are made with wooden blocks a la Jenga. Huge fan of that. They have a nice selection of craft beers on tap. Our group was a bunch of Michigan Alumni (here for the college basketball games) and The Montrose showed us some love by offering 5 different Bell's Brewery (Michigan brewery) beers on tap for us at a special event rate of $5. I personally didn't care for any of the beers on tap so I ordered a bottle of Blue Point Toasted Lager. I thought the price of $7 for a bottle was a bit steep, especially since I can buy a whole 6-pack of that for under $10. But you pay a premium to drink at a bar, I get it. For comparison purposes, I bought a draft Blue Point Toasted Lager inside the Barclays Center and paid $9.75 for 16 ounces. The per ounce difference is only about 2 cents. You'd think the bars would be significantly cheaper than inside the arena. Guess not.
The hubby and I ordered the Chicken Nachos appetizer to share. I was not impressed with it. The chicken was bland and in big chunks. Not really the best for eating on nachos. There also was a minimal amount of melted cheese on the nachos. Last I checked, melted cheese is one of the main two ingredients in nachos other than the tortilla chips.
Bottom line: If you like craft beer and are attending an event at the Barclays Center this is a decent place to get your drink on. Go elsewhere for food.
Stopped in for some post dinner drinks with a friend and had a good time. Our cocktails were well made, but a little steep even for Brooklyn. We didn't order any food as we were still full from dinner. The space is very modern, and there is plenty of seating. Good luck getting the huge bathroom door open if it's later in your night. I knocked a star off because I gave my credit card to open a tab. At the end of the night, the bartender said the machine was not working for anyone's credit cards. I had to go across the street to the ATM and pay cash. Low and behold, the next day I check my AmEx statement and there is not 1, but 2 charges from The Montrose. Luckily it was all straightened out, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth .
Sometimes you just need to bro out.
I live a block away from The Montrose but have never gone in, because I've never felt the need to visit a local sports bar.
But sometimes, UFC 200 is on, and you need to go support your boy Brock Lesnar, who's a once-in-a-lifetime freak of nature spectacle.
So you stop by Montrose early, grab some seats at the bar (which was a good thing because it got PACKED), pay $10 to the dude collecting money (which also gets you a drink ticket for a Bronx Ale, which is an awesome deal), and then just watch men and women punch and kick the crap out of each other.
The have a great selection of beers here, both high brow and low.
And yes, Brock won. Decisively.
We were starving and had about 40 minutes to spare before our event at Barclays started. Montrose, being 2 blocks away from Barclays, was one of the first places I saw and decided to give it a shot. We were immediately seated and given menus. A few minutes later, our awesome Irish (Scottish?) waiter Andy came over to take our drink and food orders.
They have a tiny food menu. I think there was about 5-7 items to choose from. That being said, their food is really good! I had the buffalo chicken wrap with fries (because Andy told us they ran out of salad). Both the wrap and fries tasted really good, though the wrap was smaller than most places. We also had a cheese burger & fries (really good as well) and chicken tenders that kicked ass.
They have a well stocked bar and the service was friendly and quick. One annoying factor was that almost all of their bathrooms were out of order and the only one that worked was the men's bathroom which had a broken lock on the door. No thanks!
Though I wouldn't go out of my way to come to the Montrose, I will definitely visit it again when in the area.
The ambiance is nice & there seems to be ample seating. Came here to do networking & it can be a little loud and hard to hear people but overall seems like a comfy place to hang out.
