  1. I'm all about the food courts. So many good spots in one place!  I have to come by again to try more vendors (and why wouldn't you given the limited food options in this area). But my fiance and I stopped here Friday around 6pm ish for an early dinner. He went to Little Beet and got a Miso Chicken bowl. Unfortunately, it had been sitting out for such a long time and went a little bad but I'm writing this next day as while he's been on the toliet :(.  Minus a star.

I went to Pat La Frieda and got the signature angus steak sandwich – it was cut up pieces of steak, jack cheese, melted over a toasted ciabatta roll. Really heavy. The steak also left some red juice (yucky) behind.. anyway.  Apparently the sandwich was supposed to have sauteed onions but that was lacking a bit in the sandwich. The sandwich overall was good and had a healthy amount of steak. I also got a side of polenta sticks- very heavy and cheesy- and a really delicious parmesan dipping sauce (very flavorful). PLF was overall pretty good. Assembly is pretty fresh (they cook it right in front of you).

Another down point was the music was sooo loud in there we could barely hear each other. I want to come back and try the seafood place .. maybe a dessert from Cinnamon Snail (had the cinnamon bun there and it was pretty good). Seating is spacious and plentiful enough.

  2. Loud food court, usually packed after work hours. Luckily, they have outside seating as well, so if the weather cooperates it's not a bad place to hang out.

They don't have many options, so I felt pretty limited. I ended up opting for a Mario's Cubano at Mario by Mary. The sandwich was ok, but nothing to rave about.

The food court is ok, and tends to attract a young good looking crowd. However, I'm not in love with the lack of variety, and have little reason to go back.

  3. Hey look everybody, food options by Penn Station that don't suck!

Okay, so it has a little bit of an overpriced hipster this-is-not-what-my-New-York-is vibe. (Note that I never utter the words "my New York" because that just reeks of obnoxious entitlement – I don't care how many generations of your family were born and bred here.) The food options are limited, but diverse. Pat LeFrieda, Cinnamon Snail, Mario Batali, The Little Beet, Marc Forgione.  A little pricey, but good. A decent amount of seating, and a nice respite from the ugliness that is Penn Station/MSG. Plus, there's a bar in the back that serves legit strong cocktails that may or may not knock you out for the rest of the afternoon. Don't ask me how I know that.

And Marc Forgione's Lobster Press sandwich is killer. As they say, like a French Dip but with lobster. A crispy melty sandwich filled with lobster meat and served with this spicy chili dip. How can that be anything but delicious? It was so, so good. I would definitely hit up Pennsy if I was ever in the area, especially since I hate going to this area so a pick-me-up would definitely be in order.

  4. This place is perfect for grabbing a drink while you're waiting for the train or a show at MSG to start.

There's many food options. It looks just like a mall food court. I didn't personally order anything but I over herd someone sharing my table that a lobster roll was $22 and it was a small sandwich.

The bars in the back corner and there was a DJ when I walked in. It's pretty loud you have to cut your conversations short and to the point. At least the music didn't suck. It's pretty youthful and "hip".

The beer selection on draft is good. I liked the IPAs. The tables are shareable with different groups since one table seats 10. There's high tops but since it gets busy they're usually taken.

There's people that clean the tables but very few girls that take bar orders so you have to get up to get your drink while one of your buddies guards the table.

Over all a fun waiting room.

  5. I dined here prior to a concert a few weeks ago.  It is adjacent to Madison Square Garden, which is great.  It's a contained food court with various options, which keeps everyone happy.  Alcohol is even served.  We ordered our food from a kiosk called, The little Beet.  I got a salmon poke bowl, which was very tasty, except of the rice.  (Which I really didn't mind at the time b/c I was trying to maintain a carb free diet that week.)  I'd definitely stop in for a bit again if I was in the area, or had an event at Madison Square Garden.

  6. FINALLY. Penn Station, you're slowly stepping it up. I don't know about you, but for my fellow commuters – when I used to live on LI and if there was a delay (let's be honest that happened more often than it should) there was really no place to go close by for a bite or a drink other than those random spots in the station that no one ever dared to go into.

Yes the options are a tad bit limited here but all the vendors they chose are pretty spot on. Especially the Cinnamon Snail I mean, yesss. The other spots here are: the Little Beet, Pat LaFrieda, Mario by Mary and Lobster Press. My go to is alwaysss Cinnamon Snail since their doughnuts are spectacular. Can't go wrong with any of the choices. And if you go near closing sometimes they'll sneak an extra one in there for ya.

The ambiance is great. It's a big open space with plenty of seating to go around. And can we please talk about that DJ? Even during the weekdays this place is LIT. Last time I was there it was a Thursday night and this group of friends (definitely pre-gaming before a show in MSG) were going wildddd outside. I was like, where am I? But in all seriousness, it's a fun place to be. The DJ mixes up some really great tunes esp 90's pop which, heck yes.

Love this space and so glad it's here to stay!

  7. The overall space and concept is nice considering that there are few options to eat around Penn Station.

However, please don't kill me vegan friends. I ordered the Korean BBQ Seitan and the pistachio cake donut from Cinnamon Snail and I thought it was just ok… actually pretty bad. The Korean Seitan lacked spice and just gusto… and the pistachio vegan donut was just awful, I ended up throwing it away. I was disheartened since CS has received so many accolades. Y'all know I don't jump onto any bandwagon unless I agree. I suggest trying the seitan rice bowl at Lumpia Shack… There are many other vegan dishes/spots that supersede CS.

In the end, I will continue to patronize NY Pizza Suprema when I'm hungry and in the vicinity of Penn Station. I STILL think that they are a step above.

  8. Stopped in for a drink with a friend. The venue itself is very cute wth the food vendors and the bar in the back. The food vendors were all closed because it was 10pm so I will have to stop in again to try those.

I went to the back bar and my friend ordered Stoli orange with seltzer and cranberry ($10). I asked for Stoli blueberry with lemonade which they didn't have the Stoli blueberry so I decided to try one of their signature drinks which was the thyme lemonade. It's supposedly Grey Goose vodka with lemonade and thyme. I figured it's similar to the drink I wanted and it sounded refreshing for a summer night. Well it was gross! The lemonade had that artificial taste to it and the vodka did not taste like grey goose. When I squeezed my lemon into the drink it added a little more real and fresh flavor to it but it still was gross. For $13 a drink use fresh lemonade or at least a lemonade that doesn't taste so artificial.

Not impressed. Don't think I would get drinks here again 🙁 hopefully the food is better!
