I love the Plaza Food Hall for desserts! There is a great selection of sweets here, and you can grab lunch or dinner here too (for $20-30 pp)!
When I used to live in the area, I would walk to the Apple Store or window shop on 5th Ave and come here for meal. The Food Hall is not well known and signage is inconspicuous, so it feels slightly secretive if you are coming from Fifth Avenue. There's usually a short line during the weekdays but seating can be limited. They are still worth it! Usually on a weekday or weekend, you will find New Yorkers and tourists from The Plaza dining here.
Lady M- I love them! They have a great selection of cake slices (@ $6.5- $7 per slice): green tea crepe, plain crepe, strawberry mille feuille, and strawberry shortcake (a personal favorite). I love their not-too sweet-strawberry cake slices and fluffy cloud-like cream.
Billy Bakery- I love their soft pillowy cakes with generous frosting much more than their cupcakes.
La Maison du Chocolat- great for gift giving! I don't like spending this much on chocolate for myself but I will certainly buy for friends and family here.
Vin Sur Vingt- cozy wine bar great for snacking. I loved their buttery escargots!
Luke's Lobster- my steady meal option in the PFH. Juicy buttery lobster chunks in a toasted buttery roll. Yum! Sometimes I will get the Noah's Ark ($40) to share with K, which is a good deal considering the lobster roll alone is $18.
Todd English is a sit-down restaurant within the Plaza Food Hall. The Paella was ok. Service was good. Beer selection was great if you like ales.
Before heading over to Central Park (across the street), I came here for lunch. I had Luke's Lobster and then Lady M for dessert. I like how there are a variety of options and how how it's conveniently located. There isn't a lot of seating though, so maybe take your food to go and eat it at the park.
What the heck? Passed this place for years (well, not exactly sure how long it has been there) and then looking for Luke's Lobster in "The Plaza Food Hall" I finally noticed the door outside that leads to the escalators going down into some wonderous food land I wished I knew about before.
More or less, call it a market or a high end food court, go to the Plaza Food Hall and explore on your own to find out what you are in the mood for. It took me a little while to find those famed lobster rolls somewhere in the middle of the place but when I did I was happy.
The only thing preventing the 5th star is seating. At maybe 6:30 PM on a Saturday I did not get the feel that the place was anywhere near maximum capacity but seating was still pretty scarce. So, depending on your target choice and how lucky you are with seating — take out might be your best bet.
Great little food hall with plenty of spots to dine from. It's really easy to miss this little spot across from Central Park.
Also, it can get quite busy as well with VERY limited seating.
The signs for the restrooms aren't very clear and it in the back down a hall.
Wifi isn't great down here plus since it's downstairs in a basement, the cell service is spotty inside.
Doubt I'd return unless it's during an off-time when it'll be hopefully quieter.
I honestly come here because they have nice restrooms which are tough to find in this part of town. Best entry is on Central Park South in the door that used to lead to the Oak Room, an iconic restaurant I loved that unfortunately closed. Also a great place for a snack though seating is limited.
I've been here twice now, and I feel like you *need* to go here if you visit NYC (not necessarily if you live there). I say that because it's a one-stop shop for so many amazing things, but it is a limited selection so if you have more time go to the individual spots. That said, I love being able to go to La Maison du Chocolat to pick up a box of chocolates, Lady M to get a slice of the mille crepe cake (this stuff is a religious experience), and go to Todd English to get lunch. Last time I was there the little Italian place had chocolate ravioli, and it was magical so I was sad this it was gone. That's the nature of the beast, though, old items leave for new items to come in.
Also, it's just a fun experience. The different vendors all look so enticing, and it feels kind of like a culinary version of being in 1920's Selfridges (based on watching PBS alone).
You know those days where the sheer weight of your wealth wears you down? Benjamins making your wallet so fat you sit lopsided in your limo? One spills out of your stuffed pockets and you can't be bothered to bend over and pick it up? Yeah, I know you know that feeling. Well, if you're ever wondering what do do with all that spare cash, why don't you head on over to the Plaza Food court… they'll be sure to lighten your load in no time flat.
All that to say, this is an expensive midtown lunch. It's near impossible to have a filling meal here for less than $20-25, however, you're damned well guaranteed that whatever you have, it'll be good. The selection is impressive… great variety, and quality. It's a great place for a splurge lunch, so go unload those buckets of spare cash there.
Dolla dolla bills y'all.
Lots of great options like Lady M and Luke's Lobster at this food "court". Does tend to get a bit crowded (the reason they are getting 3 instead of 4 stars) and finding a seat can be a mission, but the choices of food here should not disappoint you…
