I'm not sure I understand the bad reviews for this truck. It's probably one of the only "healthy" food trucks available in the city which immediately earns points in my book. I put healthy in quotes because fried falafel isn't the most healthy thing and neither is the big soft delicious pita that it comes with, despite the fact that it's made from whole wheat flour. Still, the serving was plentiful and a great option when trying to keep things light.
I got the "La Vida Loca" hummus bowl which comes with a heaping portion of hummus, sundried tomato spread, salad, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and 4 mini falafel balls. It also comes with a pita on the side. PLENTY of food for lunch. I'm still full 4 hours later. The hummus made the dish. It was creamy, not overly seasoned but very flavorful. I wasn't a huge fan of the sundried tomato spread but still thought it added a nice pungent flavor to the bites where I was in the mood for it.
$10 isn't cheap for lunch or a food cart but I'm always willing to pay a little extra for something fresh like that. It was a nice change of pace to your typical boring salad. I will definitely be coming back here with my colleagues. Everyone agreed that it was a hit.
This USED to be one of my favorite food trucks, when it was called "Crisp" but since then it has declined–perhaps around the time they changed their name. With every passing meal, the ingredients taste more different, and the salads get cheaper and cheaper–all while staying the same price. The falafel used to be full of flavor and well-shaped, but I have noticed that they have gotten smaller. The toppings don't taste as fresh and overall not as good. I used to get this truck every Tuesday religiously, but now I walk right by it. Please someone buy out this truck and restore it to its former glory!
