Came today after having brunch with my friend. It took us a while to find this place because yelp had the wrong address (which I updated) and there is a lot of construction going on in the area. The winery is hidden and annoying to find. Once we found the place, we were disappointed to know that tours are only Saturday and Sunday at 1pm or by reservation. I blame my friend for not knowing this since she planned for us to come here today.
So why did I give this place 4 stars. Well because Dorian (I'm pretty sure this was the name of the employee that catered to us) was amazing. He listened to what type of wines we like and picked out good wines for us to sample. He was attentive, informative, and very knowledgeable.
My friend and I enjoyed our time here and it made getting lost all worth it. Every wine I sampled (whites and reds) were really good. ay after today I a fan of their wines. Dorian said the contraction should be done by next week. I will defiantly be back this summer for the tour. I highly recommend coming here.
This is a super fun place to come while spending a day in Red Hook. The staff is knowledgable and friendly and don't make you feel like an idiot for not knowing too much about wine. They have two winemakers from different schools of thought: one traditional and one more avant garde. On our last visit, we did a three glass tasting. It was a very reasonable $8 per flight and although it was supposed to be one ounce pours, I think we got far more. Damian (the person helping us) suggested comparison tastings from both winemakers of the same grape and it was amazing how different they were. I leaned toward Abe Schoner's wines (the avant garde guy) and husband liked the more traditional wines. Damian was so into it that he gave us a fourth glass of a wine he wanted us to try. We ended up buying a bottle of orange wine that made a great pairing with duck breasts. Today we went back to get some holiday gifts and another bottle of the orange for ourselves. Again, the person who helped us was great. Too bad I had other errands because that tasting was calling to me!
Very fun place with enjoyable wines. I was skeptical initially of what could be done with wines in New York State but I have laid that to rest. These wines were not necessarily conventional, in fact almost none were but of the more than six wines I sampled I found none to be offensive and there were a few that I really liked. It's also nice to go and hang out there on a day when the weather is pleasant. I look forward to returning.
Been here four times already. This last time was a Friday at 3pm and we took the reserve tour. Place was almost empty which I loved, we had pick of the seating. We were served a glass to start, salt crush was my preference and favorite from this winery and then invited to follow our guide. He was tall, gangly with glasses, animated and super knowledgable, the tour is very basic and showed us the back two rooms full of barrels, bottling machinery and basins. I was very impressed with how much I learned from the tour. We were seated back on the couch we picked, he offered to store my backpack behind the counter for safety while we walked around . since the place was empty we got our old seats back but I wonder how they handle it when it's very crowded and people are waiting for seats. We continued to taste, 1 white, 2 oranges (not a huge fan) and 2 reds. We ordered the bonne brioche cheese with minitoast it was a creamy spread, the last bit of the cheese became extraordinarily salty with each bite (18$). We were accomodated and allowed to leisurely taste until about 530pm even after they close for new patrons. I continue to come back here because I love the staff, the vibe, the wines and I always go to the lobster pound after to get a lobster blt and Steve's key lime pie after. I came here this Sunday to do some wine tasting but I wasn't happy at all. Not with the wine or the snacks(which is only cheese) but with the set up and seating availability. They have about 3 couches and maybe 2-3 chairs. One couch was taken up by a reserved private party and the others by a group of people. They have a lot of barrels for you to put your glass on and drink but no stools for seating. Doesn't make any sense. We decided to leave because we're looking to relax, sit down and drink, not stand up. It's a very nice place and the set up with but they need more food options and seating. Beautiful entrance view.
I love wine and wineries and Red Hook Winery met all of my expectations. The ambiance makes you feel as if you're at a ski lodge – it's so cozy! The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and the wine was delicious.
They have cozy leather chairs and couches should you choose to taste a flight or enjoy a glass of your favorite vino. You can also enjoy the amazing view as you slowly inebriate yourself before heading back to Manhattan. As my friend said, a great date spot that is sure to impress.

Brought my mom over on the IKEA ferry for a wine tasting and we fell in love with this place and their wine and their story!
In fact, we had such a terrific young man explain everything to us that I brought back two long-time New Yorkers who had never heard of the place and they loved it too!
all of the wines we tried were terrific and I learned more about orange wines and red blends than I ever knew before.
I will just keep finding friends and bringing the back over and over again.
Last summer, my brother and I walked down a quiet, creepy road to find Steve's Key Lime Pie. On our way there, I noticed signs pointing to Red Hook Winery. Woah, a winery in these parts? Not a fan of wine, my brother hurried me along and we were on our way to frozen key lime pie on a stick (a must try). A year later, I was still thinking about that winery so I dragged my family here to check out the space and enjoy a wine flight.
Red Hook in general is a bit of a hidden gem so while this place is not difficult to find (there are plenty of signs that highlight the route), you would need to be purposely looking for it to even know of its existence (or stumble upon it like us, on our way to Steve's…sorry, enough about him, back to the wine). Also, Red Hook has always just been the place where prospective drivers would undoubtedly fail their drivers' tests, so who would ever associate it with anything as charming as a winery/tasting room? Onto the actual space…it's very cute (decorated somewhat like an Anthropologie store) and faces the water. We were here during Memorial Day and it could not have been more picturesque…we felt like we were swept far away from Brooklyn as we sipped on chardonnay and Riesling, whilst leaning against the large barrels that served as table tops. The staff is beyond knowledgeable about the grape drank and I definitely appreciated the fact that the grapes are only from NY and that each wine on the menu had the winemakers' initials next to it. We eventually settled on a Reisling blend from Seneca Lake, which tasted light, floral and very refreshing.The bottles are not cheap (no two buck Chucks here, my friends), but reasonable for such fine quality, local wine (most range $30-$60) and the flights are actually very inexpensive.
Red Hook Winery was a great end to our "day trip" of the neighborhood and I would highly recommend coming back again, especially with a car (there is a small parking lot) as public transportation to this neck of the woods is not easy (but remember to choose a DD, obviously). Cheers!
