  1. I loved everything about the Regal. First, major shout out to Christine (Christina?), our blond waitress who was one of the nicest servers I have ever met. She made this place deserve its 5 star review.

We arrived at 5:30PM on a weekday, so the place was empty besides our table. The dim lighting and relatively affordable prices and extensive, detailed cocktail list points to this place to be a hot spot for first dates in Brooklyn. We started off with the Fried Burrata and the Reuben Rolls at the suggestion of the waitress. Both were on point! The Fried Burrata sat in a pool of delicious marinara sauce and the cheese oozed out as soon as we cracked open its golden husk. The Reuben Rolls were fried nicely and had a good balance of corned beef and sauerkraut.

For our mains we had the Salmon and the Short Ribs. The Salmon dish had a beautiful presentation and came with yummy sides. The Short Ribs were HUGE and the meat was delicious, though I do think there was a bit too much sauce. We ended the night with the Bread Pudding that my gf was absolutely in love with. It was a mellow taste and is not overly sweet.

The Regal is a great new addition to the area and is absolutely worth your visit.

  2. Honestly had higher expectations of this place given the positive reviews it has received so far. Decor, vibe and food were all decent. Golden yellow backlight bar in a dimly lit quiet setting, it was a nice casual setting conducive to conversation. Food was good as well though I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. We ordered the latkes, fried burrata, Mac and cheese (tasty), short ribs, fried pickles, and the goat cheese salad. The Mac and cheese, fried burrata, salad, and short ribs were pretty good. The latkes and fried pickles were a bit too over cooked. But that wasn't what I had issues with. The main problem was the service which was terrible. We waited at least 30 minutes for our food and when we were finally served, were ignored by a female waitress who would walk away after making eye contact with us.

We are probably not coming back again given the abundance of good bar food already available in Williamsburg.

  3. Spending a lot of time in this area, I had been eagerly awaiting the opening of The Regal for weeks. It looked very nice from the outside and had had a menu displayed for a while, so I was pretty excited to go to the opening last night. Yay first review! (So I'll give a long review for everyone who hasn't been yet.)

It didn't disappoint. The Regal is a great addition to the area – trendy, but reasonably priced, and also has that slight hipster vibe that Williamsburg loves (i.e. light up peace sign on the wall). It's a place that you could go to have either food or great cocktails (or both!). AND their kitchen doesn't close until 5AM ON THE WEEKENDS / 2AM SUN-WED (!!!!) After a long night at the bars nearby and in the mood for something other than dollar pizza, that's definitely something to take advantage of.

It's not a large space but definitely spacious enough where the tables are not on top of each other. There are tables against the wall and spread in the middle, then a bar along one end with bar stools that you can sit at. The seats along the wall are this really pretty red patent-type of material. They also have a coat check – perfect for cold January when we're all layering up. I'd say it's better for smaller groups, but we had a group of 6 and they were able to accommodate us just fine.

    Drinks:
When we sat down, our waitress immediately asked if she could suggest something on the drink menu based on whether we were in the mood for something sweet, sour, fruity, etc. She seemed like she knew what she was talking about. My boyfriend wanted something with whiskey, and she recommended a drink that he claimed was "really really good." I got the vodka smash, which has fresh fruits, ginger beer, mint, lemon, and vodka – it was SO GOOD. They really make the drinks look pretty too – with fancy cups and decorative ingredients (look at my pictures). They emphasize that they barrel-age a lot of their liquor, so it's definitely a big cocktail spot. Cocktails are ~$10.

    Food:
I got the meatball appetizer, which has cheese inside the meatball (4/5). I also got the brussels sprouts side and it was amazing – very crispy and had an apple cider flavor to it (5/5). My boyfriend got the spicy chicken sandwich, which he claimed was decent (3.5/5). There were a lot of plates that other people in the restaurant ordered that looked amazing, so we'll definitely be back to try more options. You can expect to spend ~$15-25 on food per person.

In summary: really cool atmosphere, friendly/quick service, decent prices, awesome cocktails, definitely have to come back and try even more of the food.

  4. This restaurant/lounge was def attractive!  The front is really cool, they have a theater sign which I've never seen before. You def can't miss this restaurant/lounge when passing by it. We loved the ambience and feel of The Regal. Very hip and the music had you bouncing.  The bar is beautiful and the lay out is very nice. They have great inventive drinks and the food was interesting, that's why we initially came here.

When walking in we were greeted by a young gentlemen. He was super nice. We were seated  promptly but were given the special drink menu that was running from 6-8 after receiving our drink order.  Whomp whomp!! It was really a bummer and lack of attentiveness from the staff. We would have def ordered from that menu if we got it in the first place! The drinks though that we did order were really good. One was a margarita type drink with mescal and the other was a bourbon drink. They were delicious and def tasty. Very balanced.

We looked at the dinner menu and ordered a bunch of apps and our entrees:

We ordered The fried Burrata which was something we have been looking to order. Although this was small, It was delicious and perfect! It was creamy on the inside and crunchy and fried on the outside. The tomato sauce was fresh and complimented it great. It should def have come with warm bread!

The pear salad with candied pecans and goat cheese came with a tangy shallot vingarette. This was delicious but very small. More of a side salad not an app.

Steak tacos these were AMAZING!!  They had a awesome dressing that was Banging and steak seemed fried!  Really great! A tad expensive for the size.

Entrees I ordered lobster roll but unfortunately, I was a little disappointed. It seemed like it was mixed with tuna? I didn't taste the sweet lobster at all. There was to much mayo which soaked up the bun. I wasn't to happy with this dish. Also the metal tin which it was served in, seemed dirty.

Salmon was a slam dunk. It had a crispy skin like a potato chip, cauliflower purée underneath and roasted fennel for a side. It was seasoned perfectly and it was a large portion. I think this was the only dish that was portioned perfectly for the price!

Brussels were amazing perfectly balanced and crunchy

Potato pancakes to thin and overly DRY!!  I wouldn't order again!!

Overall this place did have some hits and misses. I would stick with mostly apps and drinks.

One big thing is they had a lot of Flies around the restaurant. It was super annoying to eat your meal or have drinks while swatting flies away from your meal!! Def not cool! (253)

  5. I soooooooo wanted to love this place but it just fell flat for me.

My sister and I wanted to go to a new spot for some eats. I open up Opentable and make reservations here. 1st thought… the décor is amazing, so the food has to be just as amazing. Who ever was in charge of the interior, from the plates, to the glasses and utensils used did an awesome job.

Anywho, while that was amazing the food fell a bit short. On the table we had chicken & waffle sliders, fried pickles, Brussel sprouts, and honey bourbon hot wings. Soooooo ….we were just underwhelmed by it all. The chicken from the slider didn't seem to be seasoned… they were just bland. The fried pickles were spears and were okay. the Brussels were roasted well but seemed to be lacking the ACV. Lastly, there wasn't anything hot about the wings, they just were.

This place was just to lovely to be that underwhelming. I wanted the food to be just as good. I'm not completely writing this spot off. The service was great so I know if I do come back I'll get great service. Maybe I'll try dinner or brunch to determine if I really am not a fan. We shall see…
