Came here the other day for lunch for 2 people. It wasn't very busy at all so seating was not an issue. They had a special, which was half sandwich + choice of fries, soup, or salad.
We got the BBQ Brisket and Roast Brisket. Both tasted great but I preferred the BBQ Brisket more. I felt like it was more well seasoned and more flavorful. The Roast brisket had some flavor but it was on the drier side. I don't remember the bread they used but it was lightly toasted and despite being toasted, it did not "cut" the roof of my mouth (which some hard breads do). The meats were tender and not chewy at all. The coleslaw that came with the dish was excellent as well. Wasn't drenched in "vegetable water" and wasn't too "vinegry".
Presentation wise, the Roast Brisket was definitely more colorful and appeared to have been plated better.
The salad was good. Ingredients were fresh and dressing wasn't too oily. The other side we got was cream of mushroom. Really thick soup. It was pretty much mushroom puree. I had no issues with it but I could see some people do. Since it's mushrooms, not very colorful either.
The staff was friendly and attentive.
Overall I would come back here again to try some of their other sandwiches. This is a solid place and I bet their food is consistent.
I would probably give this place a 1.5 if I could. The ambience and decor is super cute and rustic feeling, hence the 1.5 stars.
The service is mediocre. The servers looked miserable to be there besides the one bartender (who we didn't interact with). But their just walking around moping as if us eating there is a burden.
The food was just blah. I'd give another star for the Mac n cheese bites but everything else was either on the verge of burnt or not cooked enough.
Also, the servers show clear favoritism. They gave select diners the complimentary muffins but not others. If you're going to give anything complimentary, be standard and consistent about it.
Will I be returning? Nope. Been here 3 times and no reason to keep returning.
My friends have a Queens beer book so we were out on the town trying different beers. Well when you're drinking lots of beers you're going to have to eat something eventually, right? We stopped in the Sandwich Bar on a Friday night around 10pm. We were promptly seated outside. After a short wait our wonderful server Stuart/Stewart entered our lives. His young, fun, and positive vibe definitely put the gold seal on you fun night out. He was speedy, attentive, and knowledgable.
Now let's talk about food. The menu was very extensive with all types of options. We had the corn nuggets and sweet potato tots as an appetizer. They were both accompanied by a yummy chipotle mayo dipping sauce. Myself and 2 others in the group ordered the brisket grilled cheese sandwich. The brisket was well cooked and mixed incredibly well with the cheeses on the sandwich. It also had some of the yummy chipotle mayo on it as well. I'll definitely be back even if it's only for the corn nuggets and the dipping sauce. The only con is that there is only one restroom for the whole place which I can see causing it issue; however, it didn't seem to cause a problem while we were there. Out of all the places on Ditmars Blvd to eat I think Sandwich Bar is definitely a solid option.
I don't know how this place doesn't have at least 4 stars! Everything from the food, workers, and ambience was phenomenal. I asked the waitress if she'd recommend the macaroni poppers and she said they were her favorite, so we ordered it. LITTLE BITES OF FRIED CHEESY GOODNESS mMmmm I was in cheese heaven.
The breakfast quesadilla was also amazing. I usually HATE runny eggs and foods that look messy when being eaten, but, wow, the quesadilla was to die for.
My bf had the breakfast burger and he loved it. I tried his cajun home fries and they were also good.
Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to eat a yummy brunch!
Definitely found a new place for food and drinks in Astoria! I have walked past this place probably a hundred times and finally got a chance to try it last night.
We had beer coupons from our Queens Beer Book and thought it'd be perfect for our beer and food. We ordered corn nuggets and sweet potato tator tots as apps; both were good but the corn nuggets were sooo good.
Three others that I was with ordered the grilled cheese brisket sandwich which they all liked and I ordered the eggplant pressed sandwich. So delicious, I already want another one! For beer, I tried the grapefruit beer (I can't remember the name). I don't typically like grapefruit but the beer was pretty good.
Besides the food being great, our waiter was amazing too! Steward/Stuart was great; funny, personable, attentive, and nice. We'll definitely be back to try some of the other items on their menu.
Ordered the Monte Cuban for a brunch special and I was definitely satisfied. Perfect as a hangover brunch the day after a long night – the combination of aonte cristo and a cubano just make sense.
For $14, bottomless coffee, a bloody mary/mimosa/champagne, and whatever brunch menu item you want, I definitely recommend this spot.
Amazing sandwiches! The German grapefruit beer was very crisp and refreshing. I loved the rustic ambiance of this restaurant and our waiter was extremely nice. I was unsure about the grapefruit beer and he let me try it before ordering it which was kind of him. He was very attentive and a pleasant person to be near. I'll definitely come back here for lunch again and I'm glad I found this spot.
We accidentally ended up here after a street fair in Astoria. I was trying to show off to my very anti queens friends, how nice queens can be.
We took seats at the bar. The place seemed super cute. The food was delicious. Our drinks? Even better. I did think there needed to be more than one bar tender, although, not sure how another person would fit behind the bar. But the bar tender, while nice did not seem to able to take two seconds to breathe between making drinks, and it was a late sunday brunch crowd, place wasn't totally full.
Only other downside was the bathroom is a onesie, so expect a wait for it. I would love to go back again though. Best part this place convinced my jersey friends queens was worth a try.
