  1. This is my favorite restaurant. Everything is delicious. My favorite is the chicken and dumplings. I've never had a bad experience here. Giant portions, great price, nice staff. Everything is delicious and slow-cooked to perfection. It is a really small place, so beware when coming with big groups. But definitely try this place!

  2. I was kind of skeptical because if the reviews but the only real way to find the truth is to visit yourself!

This place got that Caribbean – soul food flavor that tastes homemade. We got jerk chicken, mac n cheese, greens with a side of cornbread.  They don't skimp either and pile up the plate.  You get a lot for only 11.50.  I've been to a few soul food spots and they give you very little food for a lot of money but not here!

Food taste good, service is good, and price is right.  Only issue is limited space and it's a busy place but we got seats though.

I recommend coming by and trying out.  This is my new go to halal soul food spot.

  3. This place will will truly satisfy your soul food cravings! Came here for Iftar after praying in the nearby mosque and couldn't be happier we did so!

So I tried the Jerk Chicken, which was moist and super delicious with the right amount of kick to it, meat falling off the bones mmmmmm!!! The mac and cheese which is definitely one of my favorites now and the rice and peas super delicious as well. I think I maybe a little obsessed with this place because its so good!!! I can't wait to go back!!!

Keep in mind, its a hole in the wall place, not a date night spot but the food will surely win you over! Also, it's amazing that it's halal! Super plus if you are restricted to only halal food. Check this place out asap!!

  4. 11bucks for a plate of food during lunch.  The jerk chicken was very tender and quite spicy (in a good way!). Rice and peas was great, but cabbage a little oily.  The meal came with a piece of cornbread: light and moist.

  5. Simple menu, well done. Food is pre-cooked and the server fills your plate with whatever combo you'd like. It's very heavy food, but tasty, and the chicken is fall off the bone tender. Each order gives you 2 pieces of chicken so I asked if I could get different flavored pieces. Server said no, which I thought was unnecessarily rigid. I mean, it's all already cooked and just sitting in a vat in front of you. Ah well. There are tables to sit at and a tv, but everything feels like it has a fine layer of sticky grease on it. Probably better to take the meal to go!

  6. This place is really not that good. HOWEVER, I still find myself craving it from time to time. I suppose that's what soul food does to you. I've had catfish that was terrible, oxtails that were great, and other dishes varying in satisfaction. Sides are probably my favorite thing to get here.

  7. Delivery review:

Their delivery time is reasonable. Usually under 45 minutes.

    Oxtail dinner:
Not that much meat, a lot of fat. That being said the meat that is there is delicious. It's just minimal.

The standouts were actually the side dishes. The okra and even the steamed mixed veggies were great! The texture and flavors were all there. I even ate the cornbread (I avoid bread) because it was so buttery and moist. I can tell their desserts would be heavenly…

    However.

My biggest gripe is that the oxtail, and two side dishes were just all dumped into one container. This means… All of the juices of the three foods melded together. It didn't necessarily taste bad, but it's hard to tell which flavors came from where. It was a bit off putting that they would decide to deliver it in this manner.

To the business owner: If you're going to deliver, please do your food justice and get an appropriate delivery container(s)!

  8. 3.5 Stars

I don't claim to be some Caribbean food connoisseur, nor have I ever been, but I know good food when I taste it and Soul Spot has some pretty good Caribbean food! It's not the best I have ever had, but my stomach still loved it.

We came here on a Saturday evening at about 6:30pm and the small restaurant was completely empty. We were the only customers inside when we ordered and sat down to eat. The restaurant only consisted of a few tables, a small TV and a counter area for the employees to scoop the food.

We picked up a paper menu and I immediately zoned in on the Jerk Chicken, despite all of the options available at the ready! And yes, there was A LOT of entrees of Caribbean goodness to choose from! The prices were a bit steep at $11 for the dinner entrée s, but it did come with 2 sides and you have to factor in the fact it's a restaurant compared to a food truck, which is where I get my dose of Caribbean food.

There were 2 females behind the counter ready to serve us, who seemed relatively bored, but were nice. Most of the time we were there they were watching an old episode of 'Martin' and were just chilling, but when customers came in they went back to their posts. Onto the main event, what did we get?

JERK CHICKEN WITH RICE & PEAS AND MAC & CHEESE
The Jerk Chicken was awesome! OK, maybe my opinion was a bit skewered due to my eagerness to chow down because of starvation, but in retrospect, it was really really good! The meat was tender, juicy and spicy! The rice and peas were just ok as the rice was a bit harder than I like. The Mac & Cheese was the gooey kind, not the stuck together kind and I loved it! The flavors on the sides weren't mindblowing, but considering the food had been sitting out in the serving trays for god knows how long, it was pretty damn good. Also, I loved the large portion sizes given to us. Although, considering the $11 price tag, I was expecting every centimeter of my plate to be covered.

SMOTHERED CHICKEN WITH MAC & CHEESE AND MASHED POTATOES
The chicken was SMOTHERED in good ol' fashion saucy gravy and I loved the flavors from it. Honestly, I never had smothered chicken before, but I really liked the peppery taste to it. The mashed potatoes and corn were OK and nothing to jump up and down about, but they made for decent sides anyhow.

We also ordered a few drinks, the Homemade Punch and the 1/2 Iced Tea/1/2 Lemonade. If there was a major downfall to the restaurant it was absolutely the drinks! They were soooooo sugary and sweet, they were really hard to digest. We drank our drinks out of major thirst, but we both couldn't come close to finishing them. Also, I would've liked the food to be a bit warmer because they were sitting in their serving trays to stay warm, but were not re-heated. If Yelp could give 3.5 stars, that is what I would give Soul Spot. It was slightly better than a 3, but not on a 4 level due to the not so warm food and terribly sweet drinks.
