This place is just like Pocha except with higher ceilings and better food. I would pick this over Pocha anyday – there's the same round metal table and stools. The place is decorated with strings of one-color X'mas lights.
Starry night gives you a plate of baby carrots, cucumbers, and dried ramen (that tastes sweet). The food is not as good as restaurant food, but it's okay as bar food.
The "best" thing to get at this place (at least for picture appeal) is the pork ribs with mozzarella cheese. This is the item that most people take pictures of and makes it look so good but in actually kinds tastes horrible. the pork is so dried out and the marinade is just not good. also the cheese hardens as soon as its off the hot plate so you're just eating hard cheese with not very good pork. and the combination of the two is just very good either. do NOT get this. you will regret it.
but one appeal is that there is a great selection of korean drinks from different kinds of flavored soju to different kinds of flavored makuli! so if you're in for a korean kind of night for drinks i would recommend this place but def not for the pork thing.
Cute place – SO Korean. Twinkly lights, K-pop classic tunes, round tables made for imbibing rounds and rounds of soju, while stuffing faces with freshly fried chicken with crackly skin, dunked in trays of sweet and spicy sauce, honey mustard and salt and pepper mix. The best thing to get though is the plate of cheesy corn that is more cheese than corn, and somehow is exactly what your body needs at 3 am.
The food here is mediocre at best. I've tried their fried chicken, ramen and ddeokbokki and they were all so-so, and they were quite pricy for their portion and quality. The service can also get really slow and inefficient at times. One good thing about this place though is that the venue is quite large and it doesn't get as crowded as other more popular bars in Ktown like Sojuhaus, Third Floor Cafe, Bangia, etc. In sum, I probably won't come here unless I need somewhere to sit down and drink with a large group of people around Ktown at the last minute.
Went on a corn cheese search with a friend and after a disappointing experience at the popular Turntable, we decided to turn to here. (We've tried take31s & bangia's corn cheese as well).
Never heard of this place before because it's off the main ktown block, but it's as Korean as you can get. There was no one else when we went (6pm) but we left pretty late and by then, there were a good amount of customers – all Koreans.
It's a classic Korean drinking place with sparse side dishes (like pocha32) of carrots, cucumbers, and soybean paste.
We weren't that hungry so we only got the seafood pancake and the corn cheese. They were both really good! It's a pretty generous portion of corn cheese, especially compared to Take31.
The seafood pancake is filled with squid & shrimp pieces and crispy.
I wasn't in the mood to drink (hungover) but next time I want to try the cheese with the ribs and get something to drink. The vibe is really nice for drinking. The darkness isn't so good for food pics though.
Last resort when you've come close to K town, but you've past prime time so you're sh*tty seats or no seats are ensured at other mainstream bars/lounges. This is just a bit off the main K-town area. I now realize why this spot looked so familiar. Terrible memories going way back when during my clubbing days until the weeeeeee hours of the night when it was Camel.
This is a Korean style dive bar and the decor makes everything seem unappetizing. It's super dark, nothing starry or startactical about this joint. We downed our soju and left shortly after entering. I didn't even want to order any food and perhaps, if I did, this would be down to a 1 star.
It was surprisingly empty – almost like no one knew it existed. Service was fine – I just shout out excuse me in Korean ("juh gee yo!!!"), and someone will come running. The place looks seriously sketchy, so definitely not a spot for romance or dates – bring your friends here on a super duper casual night out.
Believe it or not, a quiet, moderate, not as packed, and no wait on weekends pub exists in Ktown on 33rd in between 5th and 6th! Starry night was round 2 of our Saturday night excursion for a friends birthday, a great choice for drinks and conversations where our voices were not drowned out by the excessive bass and treble of the sound system and where there was no fear over drinking would be a concern. In fact, Starry Night supported binge drinking according to the sign in Korean illuminating on site at the entrance.
We ordered pitchers and bottles. They were out of Yogurt soju and grapefruit soju. The waiter asked if we were ok with waiting as he went to pick up ingredients at the grocery store. It's a Saturday night you are out of yogurt soju the most popular drink (I think) at 9pm? Unacceptable, but the admirable gesture and exemplary service made up for it. Fruit dish, complimentary on the house, was served. On top of that the staff let us make song recommendations to be played for continuing to order and contribute to majority of starry nights revenue for the night.
The hidden secret – Starry Night is for medium size groups that are looking for a quiet and modest night out and avoid the obnoxious, out-of-control, irresponsible, cannot handle their liquor drunks.
Place to go when you don't want to wait an hour for other ktown drink places on Friday/Saturday night. We ordered spicy pork cheese dip dish and clam soup along with a few bottles of soju and beer. Clam soup was pretty salty, but goes really well with soju. My friend kept adding water when we were almost done with it, and it tasted pretty much the same. I had high expectation for spicy pork cheese dip, but it was mediocre. Cheese wasn't so melty so we ended up eating chunks of cheese with little piece of meat. So we were done with cheese before we were done with pork ribs. Also pork ribs were pretty stiff and not pleasant to eat. It can be pretty spicy without the cheese so if you cant eat spicy food it's not for you! One thing i really liked is that they sell korean ice cream. I thought it was pretty clever to sell ice cream when people are drunk and heated from alcohol. Overall it wasn't as good as i expected and I'm not too sure if i would come back here again
