The Strand Bistro
“For dessert, Chef Kelvin surprised my mom with a candle on a warm chocolate cake, and an order of fried cheesecake egg rolls.”
“The decor is stunning, specially the bar and library areas; fireplace, swing for 4, huge fish tank, cool artwork and photos.”
“The atmosphere is extremely sexy…fish tank is distracting – because I swear a fish war was about to happen lol .”

Bar & restaurant with a private room in the back that is pretty large and perfect for private parties. I came for a private presentation & dinner
Nice classic decor inside! For our private dinner there was a limited menu but I enjoyed what I ordered
–beet carpaccio: not bad, good vegetarian option
–crab cake: crispy crust and a great crab ratio, wasn't too bready at all
–Cioppino: loved the thickness of the tomato stew! There was so much seafood including lobster!
–trio of sorbets: too icy in texture but nice bold unique flavors! we got to try grape, pear, and lime basil
You can also order food in the loud bar area (the food looked and smelled good when I walked by)
I really liked the lunch service here, and it was completely empty! I would recommend the crispy chicken sandwich, which came on a pretzel bun. The Zucca pasta was also pretty interesting. I ordered the smaller size of the pasta, which was a nice portion for a light lunch, and it was very unique.
Any of the sandwiches or burgers would make for a hearty tasty lunch.
We came for restaurant week, and left engorged. The plates seem small at first, but in the end, u leave being unable to move.
For apps we got the corn soup and peach salad (warm ricotta was delicious). I got the steak for dinner, it was cool, not all that impressive tho. And, the spring roll for dessert was as grand as all the reviewers say it is. You cannot leave this place without trying it.
Dinner aside, I was more impressed with the outerworkings. The ambiance is wonderful. We were greeted gleefully by the hostess. The servers were all pleasant to talk to. The bathroom was unbelievably clean. The way the place was decorated was not very pretentious. I enjoyed how it was like eating in someone's living room. I think I remember enjoying the soundtrack s well.
3.5 Stars
I came here for restaurant week. Overall, the food is good, with dessert the worst part.
Food:
Solid bread basket
Baby beets and goat cheese salad – pretty good but the goat cheese was fried
Braised beef short rib – pretty good and meat crumbles easily
Cheesecake spring roll – decent
Panna cotta – not great
Wait, 4 stars? Dafuq?!
Lunch here wins a trophy for the single worst dining experience I've had on this restaurant-dotted island. Guys, what are you smoking??
Tramped over for a farewell party. I usually stay far, far away from hotel establishments, but whatever, I'm DTF. The interior is elegantly decorated, albeit boring. Whatever, as long as my taste buds are appeased.
***Niceties end here***
At first glance, the menu looks slightly boring. BLTs…salads…ok, I'll go with the flow. We order, and then we wait.
And wait.
And wait.
And still no sign of food.
This leads me to believe that there is only one chef in the back. He also takes orders and buses tables, in addition to washing dishes and plating, in addition to sourcing ingredients and mopping the kitchen floor. The way this place is run makes it feel like a one-man-operation, and I've read plenty about OMOs that are a gazillion times more efficient than this.
My sweet potato fries arrive. Nothing special. My main arrives, three indistinguishable prawns lying limply on a shrived bed of greens. I've never had prawns that tasted so mushy, like they were defrosted over and over again. What poor execution.
Even worse, my colleagues flat out didn't get their entrees until a good hour later, at which point many were late for their meetings and had to ask for takeout boxes. The poor, confused server apologized not-so-profusely and attributed the lack of food to our large group size. That's funny. Last time I checked that's what restaurants do. Serve groups of people.
At the end, no complimentary dishes, no certificates. Just a group of still hungry, disappointed diners.
Strand Bistro, get your act together.
I came here for lunch during Restaurant Week. The food was okay nothing to brag about. I had the mac & cheese to start, then a bacon cheeseburger as my entrée and the coconut crème caramel for dessert. The mac & cheese and burger were decent however the coconut crème was delicious.
Food was just alright but service was great. We were greeted by a very nice hostess (even though the restaurant did not seem to have a hostess table/ check-in area) and a very bubbly server.
Flatbread: tasted like pizza. Not bad but also not amazing.
Sweet potato fries: normal, nothing out of the ordinary.
Burger: also, not bad but not great either.
The ambience was great though. The restaurant is to the side of a fancy-looking hotel lobby.
Late dinner they had some live music. I got the skate (just because it's so rare to find skate in a restaurant). I liked it but I would have preferred it non-crusted. My friends got the beef sirloin and the salmon. Easy and good. They served a delicious complimentary cheese bread also!!
