I can't say enough positive things about the Water Club, it truly is a NYC gem. The Water Club provides a classically elegant atmosphere and dinning experience on the East River in Manhattan.
My husband and I were lucky enough to have our May wedding at the Water Club. Our guests are still raving about the venue and the food, and lets not forget the beautiful views that wow during the day and sparkle at night. We wanted a wedding that was romantic, classy, elegant, and with just the right amount of city and on the water feel. The Water Club exceeded all of our expectations.
Planning with Joanne was a breeze. She was always enjoyable to meet with, and fun to talk to (she used to run Delmonico's in the 80's so we knew we had one of the very best venue coordinators in the city). Joanne was enthusiastic about all of our plans and made us feel very special, which is amazingly rare in the wedding industry.
Joanne worked with our vendors and bridesmaids to make sure things ran seamlessly, and the room looked like our vision.
The maître d' on the day of our wedding was superb and accommodated my husband and I continuously, and made sure the butlers got passed hors-d'oeuvres to me (which if you have had a wedding before you understand that the Bride and Groom usually do not get a chance to eat much of their food).
The food was delicious and the open bar provided lots of options (including some fantastic Old Fashioned cocktails). So many guests told us they had never been to a wedding with such great food. This is one of the benefits of having your wedding in one of NYC's best restaurants.
If you are able to have your wedding at the Water Club, do not pass up the opportunity. They made our wedding day better than we ever could have imagined. Plus, we now have a special and extremely romantic restaurant to celebrate anniversaries and special occasions.
It's a unique space in New York, right on the water in the Murray Hills area. It's hard to get to because you literally have to cross FDR drive to get to it. It's next to the heliport.
It's a nice space. Once you go inside, it has this air of tradition with it's solid oak walls and staircase. I was at a private event so it may not be reflective of what you may experience if you went on your own. We had the second floor room with windows all around. It's right on the water, but I felt that the view was just OK because you're staring at Long Island City.
As for the food, it was standard. The bread, salad, and even the chocolate covered strawberries and coconut macarons were just standard. My entrée was the filet mignon. It wasn't bad, but it was overdone. They said they recommended "medium rare," which I got, and it was definitely "medium well." Not that this is the first time this has happened to anyone, but still disappointing.
When we arrived for our reservation, we were told to go to the (nearly empty) bar where we waited for bad drinks for 15 minutes. After more than 20 minutes, we checked on our table only to discover they had forgotten us.
After that, the food wasn't good. The proportions were completely off in the crab salad. My scallops were rubbery. The one nice part of the meal was the lamb shank.
The idea of being on the water is nice but it's simply not worth it.

I ordered the Duck Cont Rolls with Asian Vegetable with sriracha sauce as the appetizer and it was delicious! I was weary about eating rolls with sriracha sauce, but what a great combo! The Pan Seared Mahi Mahi with orzo and ratatouille was the best…hands down! The Mahi Mahi had a wonderfully crispy skin and then was soft and juicy on the inside…yumo! Orzo and ratatouille was a great combo and I really wish there was more of it on the plate because I could just keep eating it! By this point, my friend and I were really full and then came the Sticky Toee Pudding with toee sauce, stout gelato and almond tuile…I FINISHED this desert on a full stomach because it was so good! If it was socially acceptable to lick the plate I would….but more people started crowding the restaurant and I had to restrain myself to acceptable table behaviour…
Caveat: I went here for a company-sponsored event, so I didn't pay.
It's a bit out of the way to get here, since it's all the way by the water. However, this makes for really nice views, especially in the evening. I like the nautical theme of the restaurant. We had a private room upstairs with huge windows that also had a private outdoor area right on the water.
The food was pretty standard as far as catering goes, your meat and cheese plates, your salads and grilled vegetables, and fruit. I did really like the carving station they brought out, with prime rib slices on crostini with horseradish sauce. I was less impressed by the passed bites. Also, props to the bartender for keeping everyone's glasses filled. At times when the bar was empty, he would go around to people and fill up their glasses – and remember what they had! That's good service.
Not sure how much it costs, but it's a great venue for holding an event.
The Water Club is on a permanently tethered barge on the East River. The food and drink are reliably good. Although it it is mainly a seafood restaurant, there is no culinary seafood magic coming out of its kitchen. The decor is nautical, evoking a feeling you are on a boat. It's pricey and out of the way. You can only get here by car or taxi. They have valet parking. Having said that, if you're a visitor to NYC, it's worth making this a lunch or dinner destination. The setting on the river (it's really an estuary) affords a spectacular view. I should add it is very romantic at night. You can watch boats and ferries going by, helicopters and seaplanes landing and taking off. I prefer coming here for lunch because it is bathed in light and you can see more of scenery. I don't come here as often as I would like because it is inconvenient, but it is among the regular eateries on my list.
Came here with my boyfriend for our 3 year anniversary. Let me just say that, usually whenever we go to a fancy restaurant, the prices are very high and the portions are very small. However, this is NOT the case with The Water Club! The portions are massive! My boyfriend couldn't even finish his steak, so we took it to go. (Granted, it was a 24oz steak). I ordered the rack of lamb and it was so delicious.
The atmosphere is amazing, and the view is beautiful! The only thing we didn't like was the fact that the restaurant was rocking back and forth because of the water, so we were getting a little sea sick.
Highly recommend if you have a special occasion coming up!
Dined here for Christmas dinner. Given it was a holiday, the food would be mass produced and waits would be long. Our waiter was very nice despite it being so busy and serving such a large group.
Love the valet parking outside. The view doesn't look to anything beautiful, as the industrial part of Brooklyn is across the water from here.
Shrimp and lobster ravioli was very much like a dumpling. Didn't really go well with the sauce. Not so good.
I liked my scallop and rice entree, highlight of the meal. Scallop was not super flavorful but very well cooked.
Great massed potatoes.
The dessert…. Was bad. The plum pudding was horrible. The chocolate cake was okay, but a terribly thin slice. The whipped cream they had was great tho. Perhaps the safest bet was the ice cream lol.
For the price, there are much better dinners to be had IMO.
