Perfect little cocktail bar that is sexy from head to toe.
Tried a variety of different cocktails here and everyone of them was balanced and delicious. The standout for me was Adam's Ruin (think apple) and the Another Kind of Salad (cilantro infused).
Menu seems to be focused primarily on small plates and different cheeses. The food selection may be a bit limited, but the items that came were all tasty.
Service was fantastic the whole way through. Would definitely be returning again.
Came early on a Friday night to snag a table for my group of 8. Attentive and helpful service since it was our first time at Third & Vine. I wish I lived closer to Jersey City and that it was easier to find parking since I would love to come here again.
To our everlasting disappointment, they were out of pork belly when we visited but we sampled a variety of their dishes. The octopus & sardine dish did not turn out the way I hoped but everything else was rock solid. My favorite were the meat dishes ($5 per) and cheese selection. All hail stinky cheeses! All served with thoughtful pairings. The waiters are always willing to provide suggestions for drink pairings as well. I am not usually a beer drinker, but the passionfruit beer has got me hooked.
Great ambiance for date night. Small place so can get crowded quickly. Easily missable because of lack of identifying storefront, look for an unassuming brown exterior and best to search using the unit #. Good luck with parking.
My friend and I were looking to have a little ladies night, and since our guys were away, what better thing to do than to stuff our faces with wine and cheese?!
We popped in and took two seats at the bar. On a Friday at 630pm, it was already pretty packed. It took a really, really long time to get anyone's attention behind the bar. Once we got a menu, it took another really long moment to order a drink. I knew what I wanted right away, but my friend asked about a Chardonnay, to which our server kindly gave her a sip. Glad he did – she didnt care for it and opted for my glass. The server was really kind to ask if we preferred a bottle instead of two glasses (I thought that was very considerate to check). We stuck with the two glasses (as we werent sure we'd be staying very long).
The menu is small and to-the point. Dont come here if youre a picky eater or dont like cheese.
We went with a cheese plate (3 kinds) and were pleasantly surprised when they were paired with a partner (e.g. a hummus with pink peppercorns, a flourless bittersweet chocolate-cake spread, and a brown sugar fudge spread). We also attempted to get the beet salad, but the chef was out, so we were steered towards the cheese-stuffed peppers wrapped in speck.
Everything was delicious – those peppers were amazing! We had to literally go up to someone to flag someone down for more bread, but other than that, the experience was enjoyable.
The owner was present and took a lot of pride in their establishment- the ingredients were high quality and the wines were obviously selected with care. I just wish service was a bit more attentive through the experience – I always feel really bad hounding people so i can give you my drink order, ask for a water, ask for silverware, etc.
We were adequately full for the time being and went on our way home, but I'd be open to coming back on an off-hour for another sampling of the menu.
Man this place is a gem! All their dishes are AMAZING (love their seasonal pickled veggies)! Deviled egg, their sandwiches, meatball, anchovies, everything were amazing. There's not one thing on their menu that we did not like. Only drawback is the price is a bit on the high side (particularly for the deviled eggs) but the food is so delicious that I am happy to pay up!!!
Went with friends and hubby on several separate occasions and for the drinkers, they all loved the drinks and wine offering as well.
Will be back time and time again.
Jersey City continues to WOW me with all of their amazing places to grab a drink and get a bite to eat. Third & Vine is top of the list for my cocktail search!
The outside decor just screams WINE and I was already happy my best friend chose this place to grab some drinks. Anything cork inspired in my opinion is such a classy give off and provides the perfect atmosphere for getting together with some friends and having a nice chat.
After getting some recommendations from the bartender I opted for the Adam's Ruin for my first round and The Blind Spot to finish off the evening. I hit the jackpot with my selection choice because they were everything a great cocktail needs: cool name, top shelf liquor, and correct measurements. Each drink ran about $12 which is reasonable for the type of drink you're ordering.
Adams' Ruin: Apple infused bourbon
Blind Spot: Heaven hill bourbon
Both drinks get 5 stars in my book! Ever since I got a taste of NOLA a year ago I've turned into a Bourbon drinking gal. These two drinks had some GOOD bourbon. If I had to choose which was my favorite (difficult to do) I would go with Adam's Ruin. Anything apple flavored is always a good choice.
Do yourself a favor if you have not already explored the best of what JC has to offer and get up now and go! Make sure to hit up Third & Vine as one of your tops.
Side note: When we walked in they were playing Harry Potter on their TV and they immediately gained 5 stars just for that. 😉
Being that I am a huge fan of tapas and my friend raved about Third and Vine for the longest, it only made sense for me to check it out.
Interestingly enough, I really liked the table and seating layout. Instead of having individual tables, situated were long high common tables with bar stools adjacent from the bar. The bar also had plenty of stools as well. Lights were dimly lit, making this a pretty intimate place.
Now on to the tapas, which is the best part. I've tried and recommend all of the below. Just know, they all exceeded my expectations.
-Roasted Beet Napoleon ( I don't even like beets but this was refreshing )
-Beef, Pork, and ricotta meatballs with polenta ( amazing blend of flavors and textures; the polenta added a nice touch to the palette )
-Mac and Cheese
-Braised Pork Belly ( super small plate )
-Croque Madamn ( a little messy with the yolk oozing out but the truffle adds a nice touch )
-Meat: Soppresatta and Cheese: a spanish one ( yikes! forgot the name )
-Dessert: bacon cheesecake ( How can you not give this a try?! It was different but in a good way. The bacon added a little salty taste but it was not overpowering at all. )
The food is definitely made with high quality ingredients. Each dish has some sort of unique side sauce or spread as well and it changes every time I come here. There's also a fromagerie who will help with the cheese. As you can see, I did not even know what I ordered but it was so good. They really know their stuff and will aid in making the right selection of cheese.
My go to cocktail every time is the Agaves gone wild. It's mixed with tequila, coconut, and some spiciness. Soooo good!
Overall, our server was personable and attentive and my food experience was beyond excellent. Third and Vine is my go to place for good eats, drinks, and ambiance.
I will preface this by saying that while I enjoy stopping by Wegmans or Whole Foods for some cheese, and have had a cheese plate or two at restaurants, this is the first place I've been to with a dedicated fromagier.
To the uninitiated like myself, the proposition can seem a little humorous at first. I usually don't request a sommelier when I go out, so do I really need a fromagier? Maybe it was the novelty of it, but I obliged the bartender and tried it out. Went in as a blank slate and asked for a few different styles of cheese – no preference whatsoever other than a bit of variety. We were given a spread of cheeses ranging from mild to extra, extra funky, with pairings of fruit/jam that matched perfectly. No regrets on asking for help on this one!
Also had a few other bites, from assorted pickles, deviled eggs, ricotta meatballs with creamy polenta, mac & cheese, and pork belly. And an excellent sour beer and spicy agave cocktail to wash it all down.. definitely a great meal and one of the more unique spots in JC.
2 thoughts that I had immediately upon leaving Third & Vine:
1. Can I give 10 stars instead of 5?
2. Did I really just eat that much cheese?
I have a strong feeling that these are both pretty common ways to feel after a meal here. Everything is just so fantastic that I don't even know where to start.
Wine. Wine is always a great place to begin. We started off with a bottle of red at the bar while we waited for a table. The wait was about 20 minutes, and considering the inside is pretty small, this wasn't terrible for a Saturday night at 8 pm.
And then of course, on to the cheese and meats. The cheese menu can be a bit overwhelming, but luckily they've got an in-house fromagerie to help with the tough choice. Yes, there is actually a resident cheese expert on the premises to help guide you with your ordering, unreal. For our cheese and meat selection, we went with sopressata, goat and gouda. The sopressata was perfectly sweet and smoky and came with a side of spicy brown mustard. What I liked best about the cheese was that each item came with food pairing that melded perfectly with the selection of cheese. The goat came with an orange jelly spread and the gouda was served with caramel sauce and candied nuts. Something I'd absolutely never think of, and everything blended beautifully together.
We knew that we wanted to try the mac and cheese as a second plate, so as a third plate we opted for something meatier to offset all of the cheese. Sadly, they were out of meatballs and sausage but it ended up working out because the pork belly was phenomenal. Three crispy pieces of pork smothered in house made BBQ sauce with a side of cole slaw. A +++++. The mac and cheese was also unreal (no surprise) and had a crunchy and flavorful topping with a perfectly melty cheese interior.
This meal was absolutely sinful, and my dude gets major brownie points for taking me here on a date. The food is super rich and the wine list is a bit pricey, so this isn't a spot for the every day, but I'd certainly come back next time I'm in the mood to feel classy and have an incredible food. After all, this is probably the best meal that I've had since moving to JC!
