Third Rail Coffee

“I had a cappuccino which had ample steamed milk with a complex and flavorful espresso.”

“Their consistent roaster is Stumptown, but I think Third Rail sometimes pulls their shots better than Stumptown itself.”

  1. ICED LATTE WITH ALMOND MILK. It's so good I don't think I will be able to order anything else.  It's also one of the best iced latte/almond milk I've had in the city.  Can't beat the location either.  Grab this and head to Washington Sq Pk for some people watching 🙂

  2. My favorite local coffee shop-yes, yes, yes!!

New York has definitely redefined coffee for me since I have been here!  Starbucks certainly does not do justice, and I feel like I have been on a world tour for the hunt for that one coffee shop to call "my own".  And, I'm finally proud to say that I have found it here at Third Rail!

I first stumbled across this place after yelping for a close place to NYU campus.  My friend and I were in desperate need of coffee and were starting to get tired of Kopi Kopi.  As much as we both loved that place, it just wasn't a good place for us to to-go our drinks.

I have had their iced mocha and cappuccinos, and both are amazing!  Third Rail has amazing coffee, and the coffee itself has such a wonderful, slightly fruity fragrance to it.  The iced mocha is not too sweet, and it has a slight nutty taste with the overall drink.  YUM!  And, the cappuccino is warm and very foamy.  The barista makes beautiful coffee art, as well-props!

The shop is adorable and very well decorated!  A great place if you happen to snag seats (it's very tiny), and the staff is so friendly!  Otherwise, head to the park, which is about a two blocks away!

I cannot stop vouching for this coffee shop, and cannot wait to get another cappuccino soon!

  3. Cute and cozy little coffee shop located near NYU. Got a chance to try their latte and it was pretty good but too bad the place was really small so there was nowhere to sit.

  4. Awesome coffee: highly concentrated, no nonsense. A little on the pricy side and not somewhere I'd go to post up long term (not enough space for studying or much conversing) but a great stop en route to Washington Square Park! Always great to support little guys like this, too.

  5. The cafe is kind of cramped and stuffy like most of the non-Starbucks coffee shops in the area, but they brew a strong cup of coffee! I didn't want to splurge on a latte since I'd already had my cup in the morning, so I went with just the drip. It did its job to keep me awake and functioning for another 3 hours!

Btw, they are no longer cash only – they got themselves Square, YAY!

  6. By far the best coffee near NYU.  Actually I'm an iced tea addict and when I walk in, I barely have to open my mouth before one appears before me.  Good pastries as well.  Wish it was a tiny bit bigger and offered wifi coz then I wouldn't have to leave.

  7. Yuck. This was my second time here, and both times the coffee tasted burnt and bad. Once was ice coffee, once was hot drip. The redeeming qualities are that the staff is super nice and the plane is small and cute with a nice cozy atmosphere, but they need to step it up with their drip coffee. I haven't tried anything else, though, so many the espresso is better.

  8. Very cute little coffee place! Right by Washington Square Park. It is very small, only sits around 10 people, but great espressos!
