My first time and they hit on every cylinder so I must reciprocate with a 5-star review. We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday without a reservation so we were very grateful that the hostess offered us a table with the condition that we be done by 7:30. We were escorted to the second floor and were happy that the table provided was by the window and not any of the others (vacant at the time) which did not have the same view. The waiter was very friendly and at no point rushed us along. We ordered the organic winter salad and it was pretty tasty and plentiful. I ordered the lamb shank and the waiter was glad to substitute the creamy risotto with the squash purée upon my request. The lamb was braised and nicely done ( fell off the bone). The purée was delicious! For dessert, another waiter gave an accurate description of the desserts and the type of cappuccino made. The waiter explained all of the desserts were made on the premises so I decided to go with the apple tart and was pleasantly surprised at the freshness and heavenly taste. The Cappuccino was superb… Bold coffee under a fluffy cloud of authentic milk froth and dash of cinnamon. Overall, the service provided and quality of our meal was absolutely wonderful…. We will be returning soon.
A solid 3.5 stars for this quaint but fun restaurant in the restaurant district in Roslyn. We came for Valentine's Day and this review is based on their prix fixe menu for the day.
Offerings on the prix fixe were plentiful for starters, entrees and desserts with about 5 each. I had the duck confit (really generous portion, a whole leg) which was cooked to perfection on a bed of polenta (decent but a little bland). The braised short ribs (also on polenta for some reason) was good but mine was slightly overcooked and a bit tough. The kids had a generous portion of lamb chops (about 5 apiece) and were incredibly happy with it. Dessert was ok with the banana bread pudding taking the cake.
Service was extremely friendly and attentive. The prix fixe was a bit pricey but then again, they gave generous portions of everything so hard to argue there. Will definitely be back.
Heard about Thyme from my fiancé's parents trying it out a while back and highly recommending it for dinner. We went the day before Valentine's Day (Saturday) and they were offering a prix fixe menu for the two days. The restaurant is situated right next to the town's tower and pond and has quite the charm. Parking in Roslyn can be scarce, so luckily there is valet.
We had a reservation but decided to have a drink at the bar when given the option of that or the table. The hostess gave us the option of sitting upstairs or downstairs – we didn't have a preference and ended up downstairs. It was nighttime but we were near the window facing the pond. Great ambience – very intimate.
The food was delicious. She started out with lobster corn chowder for the appetizer and I had the crab cake (chipotle aioli was spicy in the best way possible). Our main courses were the short rib (myself) and scallops and shrimp (her) and both were delightful and generous helpings. We finished off with dessert (I had the apple tart and she had crème brulee) and although we were already stuffed, we thoroughly enjoyed the desserts.
Overall, I certainly intend to dine at Thyme in the future. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is great for a date or intimate gathering (probably not best for groups).
We came here for a Saturday brunch. The restaurant was packed, so I'm glad that we made reservations.
First thing you notice when you walk in is the classy but casual atmosphere, along with the serene view of the pond from the seating area. There's outside seating, but it was closed off because of the rain when we came here.
Their weekend brunch is $20. They started us off with a warm raisin scone with cinnamon butter that we both really liked. I had the Challah French Toast with strawberry chutney and thought it was delicious. Although the serving of the strawberry chutney was a little small, the french toast was perfectly cooked.
I'm glad that we discovered this place, because this is a great place for brunch that's not too far from where we live.
Upgrading to 4 stars for great execution with our meals last night.
All 6 appetizers and main courses impressed, and this group is pretty hard to impress. I started with the special fig salad and followed with the swordfish special; both were artfully prepared and presented, which honestly I do not care that much about if it does not deliver on taste, but both delivered.
The pork chop also got high rating both for presentation and taste, and they succeeded in keeping it succulent when it is so common that pork is dry. ( I guess I do care about presentation because even without tasting it, I plan on trying it next time)
The cookie platter (this is a don't miss) and French press coffee ended a perfect meal.
As always nice ambiance inside; classy interior designed by local architecht Matt Korn in the locations previous life. Outdoor overlooking the lake is also great when the weather is right. Upstairs is great for big groups, but lacks intimacy of downstairs
My only gripe is that they do not let you transfer the bar bill to the table. I do not get it when restaurants have this policy. I get it that it is complicated running a dynamic business, but do not make your issue my problem especially before we even get a bite of food.
I'm really surprised that Thyme doesn't have a higher review, I mean really…good food, good service, pretty views. I went for brunch and for $20 you get a generous amount of food and a drink! The menu is extensive brunchy things, lunchy things something for everyone. I really enjoyed it! Started with a Bloody Mary, it was really good, nice and spicy!! Had to get the Benedict it was served on a potato pancake, different and it really worked. The only thing I can say is…don't fill up on the yummy biscuit they give you to start 🙂
Located on the main strip in Roslyn, tucked behind the clock-tower, lies the most adorable little restaurant called Thyme American Kitchen, serving up delicious cuisine is a cozy cottage atmosphere. As my fiance and I waited to be seated, we had a drink at the bar. The bartender was definitely not a beer expert and was unable to tell us anything substantial about the beers on tap, but the California lager was delightful nonetheless. Then we moved to the main dining room, where we began our first course on the Valentine's Day pre fixed menu. I started with a lobster soup, which was hearty, creamy and fulfilling. The scallops in my main course were TO DIE FOR, an absolute show stopper! The shrimp were a close runner up. The vanilla parsnip puree side dish was sweeter than I was expecting with a very unique taste and texture (similar to mashed potatoes but not as thick). For dessert, the creme brulee had a nice flavor, but the caramel seemed the tiniest bit overdone (stuck to my back teeth more than usual, tough to chew). I had a taste of the crab cake appetizer with chipotle sauce (which was excellent) and the braised short ribs, which were so rich and flavorful. Our server was friendly and efficient, but not overbearing (the trifecta of waitresses). Although I thought this meal was definitely overpriced (nearly $200 for 2), I would love to come back and try their regular menu.
Thyme is such a gem. Came here last year for an unforgettable birthday brunch and then tonight came back and brought my whole family(they can't stop raving about it.) Aside from the food being absolutely incredible with beautiful presentations, the entire feel of this place is just lovely and makes you feel right at home. Loved the friendliness of our waiter and the whole staff, drinks were on point, and the food is perfection. Thyme is definitely my favorite restaurant on Long Island BY FAR. It's hard to compete with this place! I would really love to know who the Chef is because he deserves a lot more credit. Thyme, never change. You stole my heart forever. It will be impossible to ever replace you. P.S I highly recommend the salmon and the banana pudding for dessert.
