  1. YAAAAS cheap and good dumplings!

  2. Tianjin is my favorite stall at this Flushing food court. The rating would have been 5 stars if the Golden Mall itself wasn't so dirty and dingy. It is in an actual basement
-Tianjin is my favorite place in NYC for boiled dumplings. They have all varieties and are wrapped freshly at the location. I usually get the A8 Pork and Cabbage dumplings. $4 for 12
-dumplings are hot and fresh. there are no pork bits in the dumplings. everything is grinded well
-English isn't a strong suit here but order by number and point if necessary
-dumplings are all freshly boiled. no steamed or fried here
-there is a wide selection of Northern Chinese foods at the counter but have not tried
-remember to use the sauces at their counter, especially mixing the black vinegar and chili oil
-you can buy frozen as well (25 and 50 packs)

  3. Absolutely fantastic. The lamb/squash dumplings are just so juicy and flavorful, and need no extras (though you can add chili oil, vinegar, and/or soy sauce at your discretion).

The dumpling's casing was cooked to exactly the right texture, and the chew of the shell was so satisfying. I can't imagine going to Flushing and not grabbing some dumplings here.

    Worth a special trip.

  4. Yup, it's literally next door to the old/first xian's famous food. It's in the basement of the mall. The address on Yelp will take you somewhere else, but it's nothing that google maps cannot fix.

I was here a few days ago.
Got a dozen lamb and squash dumplings for $6!!!! Those were so juicy. They were pretty delicate too. Make sure to eat them with some hot chili oil. Grab a bunch of  napkins because you will need them!

They also offer the dumplings to go. "Fresh frozen-" it says on the menu. lol  There are options for side dishes such as bamboo shoots, duck heads and etc – sold by the box or pound.

The seating is awkward, but that's to be expected. Might not look the cleanest but this place makes some authentic dumplings. You don't come here for the ambiance. You are not coming here for the service either. There are no frills here. It definitely helps if you know mandarin – which I don't – so the ladies at the counter can understand you faster and they might not peer pressure you to get a soda.
They are pretty straight forward: come to the counter, order – then pay and sit. Those poor ladies are indeed fed up with people that stop there to ask where Xian's is and I can't blame them. Haha

  5. I could sit here and tell you all that the lamb dumplings with green squash are the best dumplings I've ever had in my life, but that's not saying much because this was only the second time I've had dumplings. Nonetheless, the lamb dumplings here are superb. Every dumpling was filled with plenty of juice and the meat/squash combo was delicious. If my opinion doesn't do it for you, these dumplings got the stamp of approval from my Chinese friend who doesn't even like lamb. Whether you're a dumpling novice or expert, bring your pocket change down to Flushing (it's super cheap) so you can enjoy amazing dumplings.

Also, I know a lot of people have a hard time finding the exact location, but this wasn't a problem for me. I'd recommend looking up pictures of the basement entrance before hand and then using Google maps to pinpoint the location. By using those two resources, you should be able to find the entrance easily. Then once you're in the basement, turn to your left and you'll notice their sign.

  6. kitchy and in the basement but food is authentic and is ready quickly.

  7. Chopsticks up for my favorite dumplings in all of NYC!

Situated in the basement of the Golden Shopping Mall, Tianjin Dumpling House has been the benchmark that all other dumplings are compared to (looking at you fusion dumpling places). I've been coming to Tianjin for years when they were cheaper and well less known. It hasn't changed much except for a slight price increase and more people but the dumplings are still excellent!

I can understand if you're hygiene conscious (cough cough) and are hesitant to eat such a place but honestly it is what is. It ain't going to change for you so either take it or leave. The atmosphere of the whole Golden Shopping Mall is like a little piece of Asia to me and it's so fascinating.

Tianjin is no frills and the food stands out. From my personal favorite lamb and green squash to the simple and succulent pork and dill, you can't go wrong with any of the dumpling varieties here (especially if you're putting that delicious garlic sauce). Plus you can buy them frozen and make them at home!

Legit dumplings in Flushing ya'll. Happy eating and remember: Don't deny, satisfy!

  8. Guys. These are the best dumplings I have ever had. I haven't been to China, but I have had a lotttt of dumplings in my time, and I will remember these. I had the lamb and squash dumplings. Don't expect a strong squash flavor, but also don't question their presence – they're perfect!

The dumplings are extremely juicy, and I really like the mutton flavor as an alternative to sometimes-bland/one-note pork. The miraculous thing about these dumplings, too, is that they avoid feeling greasy or even oily. Juicy, yes, but they don't drip with fat. Nor do they have any tough cartilage bits.

Don't expect a lovely ambiance – this is in the basement of a cramped, dingy mall. Who cares? Final note: the staff is actually quite nice and patient with newcomers and white people who generally don't know what they're doing (me). I'm excited to return and try their other dumplings!
