Tienda Vieja Colombian Restaurant
“It isnt the best Columbian food I have had but it is good enough to keep me from making the trip to jackson heights.”
“One of us also ordered the meat platter that came with beef, pork skin, plantain, riblettes, sausage and yuca fries.”
“Definitely reccomend this place to anyone who loves Columbian food as I am a regular here.”

Really good food. IT is kinda in the middle of nowhere tho you would never expect to see this place. I recommend going there by car. Seriously try everything on themenu. Sadly, I didn't use the bathroom when I was there.
Good food, good prices, easy parking and close to home…what else can you ask for? On top of that, the portions are large and they have daily specials. The sangria is really good and very loaded!
Make sure to ask for the green sauce to go with your chicharron! Love the grill pork with passion fruit sauce. Also the piacada de Pollo is great platter to share! Comes with tostones and little yukon gold potatoes.
I come here with my girlfriend once a month. Its not like piopio by any means but the service is great. The food has this homeliness to it which I love. I'll deff be back.
Found this place last Sunday. We don't have a big variety of Latin restaurants near our house. We enjoyed it. The place was pretty empty and the service was a little slow but besides that we were very happy with the food…and the prices.
The country plate was on point and the price was right. Their white sangria was delicious, maybe the best I have had to date. We also ordered the fried shrimps and an avocado salad which were delicious.
I will definitely be eating here again.
Restaurant was located on the corner of a quiet block. Very easy to find parking. The waitstaff was nice and friendly and spoke mostly spanish. The prices here are extremely reasonable with the daily specials priced around $7. The pork belly was delicious. The fried pork chop was good but small. The plates had lots of rice but not enough beans. I could've had another side dish as I was not full.
great colombian food in near fresh meadows in queens.
I had several items in this restaurant and the prices are right and the portions are gigantic.
I start with tostones and guacamole, nice crucnhy plantains to be dipped in a creamy avocado mash…worth every penny!
If you want to try pork chops and you want to eat something different Medallon de Cerdo con salsa Maracuya. Grill chops with a passion guayaba fruit sauce.
I love beef tongue and they make a beef tongue platter on tamato sauce with rice beans and yuca. The beef tongue is so soft you dont even need a knife to cut it and the platter is so big, no way to finish it. Basically I end up taking it home for lunch the next day., Plato tipico is good too, rice, beans (black) chicharon, arepa and palomia steak (try it from the lunch special!)
awesome chicken soup and kick ass Sangria, great for large groups and the kitchen opens late.
3.5 – Upon approaching the restaurant I noticed their outdoor signage had changed. No more yellow, red, and blue Colombian flag. Instead the letters are all white and lit up and the new logo above the entrance is in the shape of a house. While there was really nothing wrong with their previous sign this one is definitely more eye catching to those driving past since it is so brightly lit.
It was nearly 5pm on a Thursday yet the restaurant was a ghost town. I called ahead to pick up my order so I did not have to wait. There were two waitresses on duty and as I entered they were having a grand old time signing they hearts out to the latin music that was playing at the restaurant. I liked the layout and the decor much better than the previous Quantum Leap restaurant that was in this space prior but I do still kind of miss that natural store that was attached to it next door.
A few yelpers mentioned having trouble communicating with the employees. I did not encounter that issue today. The girls spoke English well enough to take my order correctly and greet me to pick up and pay but I do speak Spanish as well in case they didn't. I ordered two of the daily special platters and two empanadas and my order came up to $17.95 including tax. The portions were generous, certainly enough to feed three people because we both had some leftovers.
We tried the fried chicken with yellow rice with vegetables, plantains, and beans special and the bbq ribs with white rice and french fries. I also ordered two empanadas, one chicken and one beef. I couldn't tell the difference between which one was beef and which was chicken because they both looked and tasted the same which struck me as odd so I just assumed they got it wrong and gave us two of the same. It was okay but I prefer Dominican style empanadas better due to the nice flaky dough they use and that they use ground meat and not meat that resembles some type of paste.
The ribs were tender and juicy but they just seemed like they were boiled and then they drizzled some bbq sauce on them. I prefer my ribs cooked in bbq sauce on a grill. I dont consider these to be "real" bbq ribs and while they weren't bad I don't forsee myself ordering them again. The rice was fine and the fries were a little soggy since most of the bbq sauce slid off the ribs and onto the fries.
The fried chicken was good but it had bones in it. I am used to boneless chunks but the menu didn't really specify. It was a combination of both white and dark meat. I would have prefered all white meat. The yellow rice was also not completely yellow. It was like they threw some sazon in it and didnt mix it well so some parts were yellower than others but the taste was fine and there was a decent ratio of veggies (peas and carrot) mixed in. The chicken was fried very well and nice and crunchy on the outside the way I like it and was nicely seasoned but I must admit I threw a dash of extra abobo on it. The plantain was great, perfectly ripe and cooked well. The beans were also tasty. For the amount of food in each platter it was definitely worth the $7 for each. I am going to try their steak and pork chops next time and see if I enjoy those more.
In conclusion the food wasn't bad and this place has potential but the fact that they did not have many customers so close to the after work rush is a bit concerning. If I were them I would up the ante on the drinks a little bit and create a happy hour with drink and appetizer specials to try to boost some bussiness. Definitely not the best Colombian food I've ever had but far from the worst so I'd give them a chance again and try some other menu items. There is no other Colombian food in this area so they definitely have that on their side but they are competing with some Argentinian, Dominican, El Salvadorean, and Mexican spots in terms of Latin Cusine in the vicinity.
In my experience I can't say that there's anything I really loved about this restaurant, nor was there anything I really hated. It's located in a desolate neighborhood in Fresh Meadows. There is no reason to eat here, unless you were actually planning to eat here. When I walked into the restaurant on a Thursday evening, I didn't really feel that it was a warm or welcoming environment. There were a few ladies at the counter looking at their phones and chatting amongst themselves. I was greeted eventually, but it took a few seconds longer than I would have liked. I think they can also do better with the lighting, as I felt I was eating in the dark the entire time. With that said, the food was decent. You can't really find this type of cuisine on this side of Queens. I think I would order again, but perhaps only for take-out.
