Really, Columbia? We're working on a Sunday? In Far (AF) Rockaway?! I'm not necessarily proud of this, but I have never even been here in my almost 27-year life…living in NYC. Rightly named FAR away land. We got here at 8 a.m., had been up since 5:45 a.m., fricking freezing, three espresso shots deep…NO FOOD IN BELLY. Going out to conduct multiple interviews for this study. So much oppression to work under these starved conditions. The whole streets could hear this gang of six stomachs screaming. Not cute.
All bad things until 1:30 p.m. when half our research team stumbled upon Tio Pollo. Te amo, Tio Pollo (doesn't mean I'll me dragging my ass out here again unless I'm forced to collect data), but we passed by Tio on our way to this place called Tacos Y Mas. They were all the way closed, so we circled around the block and practically crawled into Tio.
Pork chops. Arroz amarillo con frijoles, maduros, a monstrous burrito…TIO we were totally starved and you sent us straight into a satisfactory belly ache. All six worker bees sat there stuffed and three had a little left to take home.
Laid back, family style restaurant serving up some delicious things, at very low prices ('bout $10-$12 will feed you very well if you're ready to gnaw your own hand off) and in pretty large portions! Friendly service in ingles o espanol. Only thing I was missing was maybe some very hot sauce…or a habanero? Whatever, I was too hungry to care about adding extra to my order.
Tiooooo, your pollo is seasoned perfectly. These porkchops are served up with grilled onions and your choice of side. The burrito definitely weighed about 4 pounds of hell yeah–delicious! Now this is a 6-day work week…and in the name of research we made it to Tio Pollo. Without him, we might not have survived to tackle another Monday. Bless you.
