  1. So surprised to find out about this new little gem in Financial District. Almost like a speakeasy, Tipsy Shanghai is hard to find because it is on the second floor of an Irish Pub! Love it. The place definitely looks like it's work-in-progress but at least it is clean and has great service. Chinatown prices plus better than Chinatown everything else. Spend $10 and get free soup dumplings (aka free). Soup dumplings had almost no soup in it but surprisingly tasted really, really good–so I can't hate on them that much. Got a few family-style dishes, including a whole fish, and felt like I was at home, but better. I definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. Portions are good too. Plus you know the place is authentic cause there was a huge group of old Asian people chillin' for a good few hours.

  2. It's all about the location in that it's next to a busy tour group oriented hotel and across the street from the China Institute. Perhaps it's still in the soft opening phase, but nothing to write home about.

The entrance is a bit confusing due to sharing the same front door as St George's Tavern. The decor is a mix of Chinese restaurant with wooden pub tavern.

The food wasn't bad but also wasn't great given that Chinatown isn't that far away. If they deliver to the neighborhood, I'd consider adding their menu to the collection but don't feel any urgency to visit again soon.

  3. Very good food, and easily the best Chinese in the financial district. Had the twice cooked pork and the salt – pepper spareribs. The soup dumplings were perfectly sized and well prepared.

Location has good light and decoration, especially the bench seating (the use of leather and belts gives a rustic appeal). A bit difficult to find, but once you realize it is the 2nd floor on top of St. George's pub, all becomes clear.
