  1. I ate at the TKettle a couple years ago, but since then it has transformed into TK Kitchen. We had already grabbed dinner but decided to stop in for some post-dinner snacking.

    SERVICE:
They took my order fairly quickly, and I learned the hard way that it's cash only here, with no card minimum. After placing my to-go order, I'm pretty sure we waited at least 20-25 minutes for a simple order of fried chicken nuggets and a red bean soybean flower (豆花), which seems a bit over the top, seeing as we were the only people ordering to go and not many people were seated in the restaurant, as far as I could tell.

    FOOD:
Fried chicken nuggets – hot and tasty. The breading was salty and crispy, and there were quite a bit of nuggets, although I got what I paid for, if that is even enough.
Soybean Flower – this was a bit disappointing. For a 25 minute wait and the heftier price tag, this was not worth it. I love soybean flowers when they are made right – chilled and filled with the requested ingredients. There were some slightly undercooked red bean mixed in with the tofu, which didn't make for the most appetizing dessert.

Overall, overpriced (for a cash only Taiwanese snack joint) and average. But as noted before, even with the hefty price tag, you do get a good quantity, but I think you only get a fair amount for what you pay.

  2. Scoring this place was tough.  Slow service and super brightly lit environs reminiscent of a high school cafeteria (high school… argh!) don't do this place any favors… but the deep fried black sesame mochi balls put me in a generous mood, so here we stand.

Myself and three ladies came to this place.  I wanted fried chicken (refer to my Fuku review) but they wanted a post-dinner (@ Udon West) bubble tea.  Subjected to the tyranny of the majority, I had to acquiesce, as the only way I could drag them to the place I wanted to check out would be to sit through bubble tea here.  Not the worst prospect in the world, the joint itself has its own little charms.

Super "kawaii" menu items and waitstaff, made for a pleasant experience.  And nt wanting to be left out of the noshing sesh taking place with the others in my party, I "freely" chose to "split dessert" with another willing participant.  Standouts in the menu was the "bubble waffle" and the deep fried black sesame mochi.

The bubble waffle was super fun (albeit, a tad difficult in the beginning) to eat.  We really should have asked for a knife, so that's our fault… no matter, the chocolate sauce and whipped cream on top softened the waffle enough that me and my partner in crime could just tear it apart with our hands in as civilized a fashion as possible.  All in all, the waffle was fun and tasty, definitely has me excited at the prospect of having a bubble waffle cone and ice cream at some point.

However, the deep fried black sesame mochi balls stole the show.  I really didn't expect much, and they looked okay… but once I popped one of these into my mouth… well, you know how it's like when you put balls in your mouth (it's either really good or really bad… experience depends from person to person, I could only assume).  And for this particular writer, the experience was great.  Just a tad of a crunch on the exterior, with soft gooey mochi filling on the inside.  Definitely worth the price of admission.

If I ever were to return, I would just get a bag o' mochi balls for take out.  Well done on that end TK.

  3. Came here on a late night, trying to sober up from hopping around bars. TK Kitchen is spacious and has a lot of seatings in the front and back of the cafe. The menu is huge, lots of Taiwanese style snacks and even meals. I ended up getting the Taiwanese Milk Tea with bubbles, half sweetness. A bunch of us ordered some fried calamari, popcorn chicken and sweet buns. Oh, and also the original egg waffle.

Overall, it's not a bad place to hangout, have a snack and drink some bubble milk tea. One thing though, the staff that served us was super nice. We accidentally knocked over a bubble tea drink and it got all over the place but he so nicely mopped up our area and cleaned our table, he even gave us another drink. Extremely good service. Without a doubt, I would return.

  4. Been here many times already. I really like the variety of Taiwanese snacks they offer. They have things like fried fish balls, stinky tofu, fries, bubble tea, bubble waffle, etc. You have the option of sitting in or doing take out here. When I'm not too hungry and in a middle for good snacks, I come here to order different things. The vibe is also nice because it's more like a cafe. Today, they had a stand on the side making new snacks. It was for like cakes with fillings inside such as custard, red bean, taro, etc. It was $3.50 each. We ordered the cream custard one, matcha green with chocolate and a special not on menu (with taro filling). The taro was disappointing because it was just cake with regular taro filling, not much flavor. The cream custard was the best, very flavorful and they said it is their best seller. The green tea with chocolate was also very tasty and since it was freshly made, was even better. Outside was a bit crunchy, inside soft and chewy oozing I'm with chocolate. Also got the summer drink, watermelon slush which is always consistently good and refreshing!

  5. It's a cute place with plenty of seating and many different flavors of boba. They also serve Taiwanese food, which I did not get to try. We had 5 people and ordered 5 different boba. When the time came, all 5 orders were different from what we had ordered. It was so bad it was actually comical. We all burst out laughing. They were OK correcting the order, but that took a while. The drinks themselves were OK. I had added pudding to mine, but only got a tiny piece.

I really wanted to try the bubble waffle. It looked creative, but I felt that it was definitely overcooked. Unfortunate.

  6. TK Kitchen serves some pretty average bubble tea varieties and they're based on powder. It's literally right next to Kung Fu Tea, so it looks like I'll be passing next time.

  7. Stopped here for boba after a long run in NYC on our way to other adventures and were looking forward to a refreshing drink to fuel us to our next stop. We tried the lychee tea iced with 1/2 sweetness and pearls. Ultimately this turned out to be way too sweet- the drink was made with a syrup concentrate then more sugar added and was simply too much for my palette and not refreshing at all.

Good for a sweet treat in a cute shop but not my cup of tea.
