Firebird pancakes are delicious (gluten free), but why not make them vegan as well if they have almond milk?!
What did one slice of bread say to the other slice of bread when it saw butter and jam on the table?
"We're Toast!" (Ba-dum-tsss)
All jokes aside, this place rocks. I've been here twice and thoroughly enjoyed my experience both times.
Lots of vegetarian and even *GASP* vegan choices on the menu, just look for the little carrot icon. They've got a tofu scramble, vegan caesar salad, veggie burger and two other meatless sandwich options. Yay!
I got the kale salad last time I visited, and it was so amazingly tasty. They massage the kale with oil and lemon juice to take out the bitterness, then top it with toasted pumpkin seeds, cherry tomatoes, dried currants, nutritional yeast and a soft boiled egg. Full of flavor and texture, and surprisingly filling!
Our server, Megan, was awesome. She was so chipper, amiable and informative. Since we got our check as they were closing for the day, she even gave us some free raspberry lemonade to go so it wouldn't go to waste. What a nice gesture!
Okay, so it might not be cheap, but guys, this is Montclair we're talking about. Thankfully you can save yourself a couple of coins because Toast offers free parking at the Montclair Art Museum across the way.
What are you waiting for? Head over to Toast and get your brunch on!
Must try. Line is a lillte on the long side but worth the wait. BYOB!!! Everything I've ordered off the menu was delicious. Staff is excellent they are knowledgeable about the menu and are very helpful with any questions. Lobster rolls are my go to of course, as well as french toast. Did I mention BYOB?
Great brunch spot. Food is always fresh and they offer plenty of food and drink specials. Service can improve since none of the waiters I've had there are really that attentive. Time between visits to the table is long and I've had to flag down the waiter for the check every time I've been there.
Made the mistake of coming here at 11:30 on Memorial Day. After an hour wait the service was slow. Even with using the "no wait" app we waited as 20 parties before us needed to get seated. Toast always has a long line for their weekend brunch and is any brunch place really worth that long a wait for eggs and pancakes? They have a decent selection of omelettes, pancakes or lunch items, but their lattes and coffees are nothing special. Waited a good ten minutes until the waiter took our drink order and then another ten until coffee was served and my vanilla latte tasted like it was premade or powdered.
The best thing about the meal was the delicious carrot cake pancakes, but I can get those at the Original Pancake House or a diner without the wait. I am chalking up the slow service to the holiday, but if I come back here for brunch it will be on a weekday only.
The food was amazing. We ordered the California scramble and the Irish Benedict and a single pancake.
Tip: you can actually "get in line" before you arrive via the NoWait app which the restaurant uses to notify you that your table is ready.
The service was just so-so. We ended up having to ask the host for our check because our server had all but disappeared.
Nonetheless, I would return!
A great breakfast or brunch spot in the Montclair area. The decor is a rustic/farm style which gives the place a very homey feeling. Sometimes the wait here come be horrible yet they have a texting feature where they text you once your table is ready. This is an awesome touch that way your not waiting by the door for your name to be called. I highly recommend their red velvet pancakes. They are unique and delicious. Overall this a nice spot to grab a traditional home style meal.
As if the line outside wasn't a strong indication, I will also state that Toast is serving up one of the most amazing brunches in town. They have an extremely eclectic and fresh menu of breakfast and lunch items, while also catering to special dietary needs such as Gluten Free. The Firebird aka gluten free pancakes and waffles are created using nut flour and taste almost as delicious as their traditional counterparts. The prices are extremely reasonable considering the fresh ingredients they use. In fact, I recall going to IHOP a couple of years ago and spent nearly the same amount on breakfast there for food that barely even touches the quality of Toast.
Since the lines get long here, make sure to download the "No Wait" app where you can reserve your table in advance. Just make sure to be close by because when your table is ready, you only have about 8 minutes to get seated or lose your place in line. That being said, the food is well worth the wait.
