“This the north shore and like NYC it comes with a uniqeness that only the upscale would apprecite.”
“Sushi appetizer standouts include spicy tuna on extra crispy rice; salmon sashimi with shaved pears; and hamachi with jalapeños and ponzu sauce.”

Everything is yummy…the cocktails, the giant salads, the steak, the tiradito.
Just a bit too pretentious. Chill out with the dim lighting and Miami beach elevator music (literally the same thing on repeat all night) and I would be more excited to return. Slightly overpriced, but especially with the salads you get a lot of food.
Located in the expensive American Manhasset, you should already know you are walking into an overpriced dining establishment. I've been here around 8-10 times now–there have been hits and misses.
The crunchy rice with spicy tuna, Asian Caesar salad, and kung pao chicken dishes are my favorites. If you order those 3 items, you should be okay.
However, the service experienced during my most recent visit was abysmal and completely unacceptable. It seemed like our table was completely forgotten for long stretches of time. This most recent experience has really turned us off.
I go to the Poll Brothers restaurants on a regular for years. Out of all of their restaurants toku and Hendricks are at the bottom.
The ambiance at toku is great. This place gets packed and it's a great restaurant to sit outside during the spring and summer months.
Here's why I gave it three stars. The staff members are mediocre. They're not the friendliest and think they're above you and expect you to order up a storm in order to somewhat get them to smile. I've worked in a restaurant before for many years and just because they get great tips doesn't mean it should get to their heads either.
The food is good; however their sushi rolls are small and not fresh. I got sushi twice and both times the rice was stale, but I just ate it and didn't complain.
Their portions are beyond tiny. Their salads are worth it as the portions are regular sized or sharing for two as an appetizer.
The skirt steak is great. Recommend the French fries as a side dish…always hit the spot.
Their Asian Caesar salad is great. Has cashews in it but it could be rich if you eat too much of it so it's great to share with someone else to start.
Everything else is TINY and beyond over priced for what you get. You'd have to order up a lot in order to leave there full.
The apple crisp dessert was good, but it's so thin and so small that it's so not worth it.
Brownie is quite dry as well.
Overall, I would only come for the ambiance.
I've been here a number of times – most of these times were in my single life when this seemed to be "THE PLACE" to impress a girl on a date if you liked her (how flattering). You could show your classy side, the ability to spend money and your refined palate off…unless you're with someone that actually knew food and good restaurants well and wasn't enamored by a somewhat flashy surroundings, but mediocre food and service. I guess if you want to feel like you have a lot of money because you are surrounded by high end stores and you have to pay for this restaurant's rent, then maybe you'd like it here, otherwise forget it.
I often had sushi of all sorts and the only meal that was ever memorable was the somewhat decent sea bass. Nothing else ever stood out or excited me and the hype about this place proceeds the actual experience by far. This is definitely not a sushi lovers paradise, cooked food is much better. Despite the poor sushi reviews, I will say that the drinks were always decent and well done.
Other than that, it's crowded, noisy and full of people that are looking around to see if anyone notices that they are wearing a new pair of Louboutins or better yet, sporting new highlights, boobs and/or nose to match. The food is definitely not quality, but the scene trendy and I guess that's what sells Toku.
After my original Yelp review from two years ago, I have since returned to Toku countless times and now firmly believe that it fully deserves a perfect 5-star rating. I have tried almost everything off their creative food and drink menu, and have never been disappointed. The service and atmosphere is top-notch, and restaurants rarely get better than this. Yes, it can get expensive, but you get what you pay for.
My personal favorites: Spicy Tuna Tartare (ask for both wonton chips and cucumber slices on the side), Lobster Salad, Grilled Duck and Lychee Skewers (I literally have daydreams about this appetizer), Kobe Riverstone BBQ, Chilean Sea Bass, Shrimp XO Pilaf, and their Americana sushi roll. The fig martini is a staple of my regular visits, as well. Whether for lunch or dinner, Toku delivers excellence.
Came in for sushi. My bf has been here prior and he has always raved about it. So we made an open table reservation
When we arrived it was decently packed but not too crazy for 130 in the afternoon…
When we came to the hostess station we told the gentleman we had a reservation and he said my name 2 times so naturally you think he "checked me in" via the computer.. And escorted us to the back to be seated.
Decor is very modern well light during lunch im Sure doing the dinner hour the lights are dim..
Service was great. Food came out fairly prompt i ordered the maki lunch sushi meal. It came with choice of 3 maki type rolls. Was a little disappointed that these were very "basic rolls" i choose eel avocado, king crab roll and spicy tuna… For some reason i feel like i have had better sushi.
I really enjoyed the salad they gave you a great portion nicely dressed!
When we left i told my bf could he just check the app to make sure they applied the open table points.
It wasnt applied so he called (since i was driving) to inquire if it takes awhile for them
To apply the points as i havent had this problem in the past at other establishments.
The phone rang a good 3 times before a young lady by i think the name amanda answered. While he had her on speaker he explained that we just left the establishment and wanted to make sure they applied the points. She searches and says oh we have you down as a missed reservation…
So she started to get a little frustrated and said really fast well just make a new one ill click off okay. And abrubtly hung up. I told him just make it and we will wait awhile before we call to check it. Hours later i decided to check and she did apply it. But that still left me with a bad taste in my mouth with how her tone was on the phone.
This is the 3rd time I've been here. Boy this visit trumps my previous visits! The receptionist guy looked like he was annoyed seeing Asians come to this restaurant. I told him it would be my birthday the next day and if there would be any complimentary birthday desserts. He had to think about it for a minute before saying "we can arrange something." His attitude already ticked me off and now he uses "can" I don't know douche bag, can you?! It should've been "we'll arrange something for you. Happy birthday!" Or at least a "Happy birthday" would be nice. Terrible atmosphere and service!
came here to celebrate my hub's new promotion and my friends new job. sat outside on a gorgeous day and enjoyed delicious martinis. along with a delicious bottle of sake. anyway the shrimp tempura in the sauce was absolutely amazing. so was basically everything else we had, and my martinis omg. pacific blue is something one should order every time here by the way! I cannot believe I never came here before. of course this isn't cheap but it's worth it. yum yum.
