  1. Everyone else get the ramen.  I get it, it's the new craze and it's affordable (especially if they get their combo).  However Tokyo Hanten offers great omelette dishes, as well as some of their steak hamburger dishes are excellent.

My personal recommendation is for the crab omelette over pork rice.  If they used fried rice instead of pork rice, they would have earned a 5 star rating.

So nothing wrong with any of the food court places, but as far as far east omelette dishes are concerned, Tokyo Hanten has got it down and their portion size is exactly what you see on the display.

  2. My family and I tend to gravitate towards this place because of all the options. We appreciate that, like other places, they have a model of what your food looks like with a description and price next to the model.

My sister tried the crab cake and egg omelet over rice yesterday because the last time I ordered it, she liked it. She prefers the hamburger patty meal over this one but found it acceptable.

It is worth noting that they do not give you cups for water but you can purchase water for $1.00/bottle. They also are cash only like most, if not all, other places.

This was one of two places that had a line of people waiting to place orders and receiving their orders.

  3. This place is unique in that it serves Japanese inspired Chinese fare.  It's an entire subset of cuisine in Japan and its a nice niche in the Mitsuwa food court.  The gyoza here is the way to go here although I do also like their chili shrimp.  If you're looking to try something other than standard Japanese fare, this place is worth a try.

  4. Can't leave Mitsuwa without eating at the food court thus, I ordered myself an crab omelette with gravy on ground pork rice from this place. I usually avoid this place because most of the display item looked a lot like Chinese food and being Chinese I could get it easily but this time I decided to give it a try. First time trying this food stall and I like it so far. The crab omelette was fluffy and the gravy made the texture of the rice smooth enough to gulp down. I noticed they made it with real crab meat. Not the fake frozen types. Plus points right there! And the meal came with a small cup of soup and shredded radish salad. Pretty quick wait compared to the other food stalls. Oh the karage omelette over rice seemed to be a huge hit. I'm determined to try it next time and glad I gave this place a chance.

  5. My partner ordered his food here and sat with him while I waited for my food at the other counter. These restaurants are co located within the supermarket.

  6. The Asians get in line for the Ramen stands, and whiteys come here…or the tempura spot. Why? Probably because everything on the menu looks safe and appealing?…No, or maybe because everything looks almost like Chinese food – probably… Regardless of the reason,I have to get the most decadent, and to some, maybe most odd combination…

Let me introduce – #41 (this is my go-to fave!)
-Rice, the foundation for all things Asian…this and maybe soy sauce too…
-Fried Battered Shrimp (the gate-way drug to all things seafood)
    – Egg  Omelet (because the cholesterol hit is not high enough with the shrimp)
    – May Sauce (yes you read it, mayo sauce – because something needs to coat the shrimp)
    – Mystery brown glaze – (i have no idea what it is, but it somehow ties everything together – think of that brown glaze you find in Beef & Broccoli, and that's kinda it)

So if you don't like this – too bad, more for me.

  7. I have been eating at this booth in the Mistuwa food court for a long time and I have never been disappointed with the food I have received. This booth serves a variety of foods ranging from fried rice and gyoza to beef patties and omelets. It provides a very eclectic selection of dishes compared to the other booths available in the food court. My go to favorite is the #41. It is five battered and fried shrimp covered in a mayo based sauce and served with an egg omelet over rice. Despite all the culinary options available inside the Mitsuwa food court I always seem to find myself coming back to this dish. Perhaps it is the large battered shrimp, fried and crunchy. Or maybe it's the sauces that cover the shrimp and omelet, both sweet and rich. Or maybe it's the generous heap of rice covered with an egg omelet. Whatever it is, you'll find me lined up for it almost every time. Just remember it is cash only (there is a Chase ATM in the food court).

  8. During my dozens of visits to Mitsuwa over the years, four or so of them have included lunch or dinner at this Mitsuwa food court staple.

However, the four visits are just enough to know that this establishment has had much better days.

My girlfriend and I had dropped by this place yesterday. We ordered the fried chicken and teriyaki hamburg patty, both including soup and salad. The fried chicken had the exact texture of the lemon chicken dish typically found at a Chinese takeout place, less the sauce; that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The hamburg steak was as expected.

The problem was not that the food was terrible, but rather, it was much better even just two years ago. Portions are noticeably much smaller. Also, the "soup and salad" included with the entrees were really a stretch. The base of the soup was simply unidentifiable due to it simply having an MSG-laden taste. The "salad" (quotes preserved intentionally) was essentially one fork-full or single chopstick pick-up portion of seaweed salad couple with a large, tasteless amount of what I believe is turnip; it is the same tasteless, wet vegetable included underneath the sashimi in low-budget sashimi platters. Such a salad is simply an insult at any price; it either should have not been included at all or replaced with simple greens and a bit of seaweed.

The two dishes were not worth the $20 that we paid.

It would have been better if we had simply waited on line for the ramen place, which at the time was almost out the door.
