Tokyo Ya
“It was flavorful and the dish also came with an egg, seaweed, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, bok choy and roast pork.”
“They used choy (good) and snap peas which I like but don't associate with ramen necessarily- the springy taste of the peas competed with the broth, instead of complimenting it.”
“I ordered the Miso Ramen with the Alaska roll (salmon, avacado, cucumber) for $7.50 tax included.”

a very AVERAGE ramen/sushi spot in 7th Ave. Every time I walk pass this place, it's pretty empty and coming on a Saturday night around 9:00 PM was pretty much empty as well.
My boyfriend and I weren't that hungry so we got the Tokyo Ya Ramen and the Golden Dream Special Roll. The Tokyo Ya Ramen was VERY VERY average – basically nothing special about it. The Golden Dream Special Roll tasted vaguely familiar but average as well. Prices here are decent but I feel like the special rolls are definitely overpriced. The Golden Dream Roll was around $12 for 7/8 pieces! The service here wasn't exceptional either but what do you expect from a restaurant in 7th Ave right?
If you're not a picky eater and on a budget – then this place is for you.
3.5 stars. It's not Chinese food, but it's kinda like Chinese ramen? It's definitely not what I'm used to, but pretty alright. I passed by this place a couple of times, knew what I was in for, but tried them anyway. I ordered a lunch special, which comes with sushi (4 pieces) out of 3 choices of rolls. I went with the California roll and it was made well with fresh ingredients, yum! Ginger and wasabi, fresh! I also ordered a miso ramen and a seaweed salad.
The seaweed salad was pretty good and accompanied with cucumber, which I prefer over lettuce. The sushi side is looking good! The ramen…is not really authentic. I had ordered ramen to go so that may have contributed to the texture of the noodles. The flavor of the miso soup was just odd…it was sweet, but bland at the same time? It was definitely a creamy consistency and that was about it. I might come back for some basic sushi rolls and salads, but not for ramen.
Tokyo Ya is an okay option if you're in the area, and don't really feel like having Chinese food. They have their random chow fun dishes, but they also have ramen, sushi, and some Japanese rice dishes.
I came in with my parents on a Sunday at almost 3 and the place was empty except for one table dining. It was also a weird time to be eating lunch though. We made it just in time for the lunch special, which is from 11 to 3.
For $7.50, you get a combo of a bowl of ramen and a sushi roll (only a select few to choose from for each). I went with the roast pork ramen and the Alaska roll. The roast pork and the broth were just okay, at best. Then again, I wasn't really expecting to be blown away. The ramen was pretty good. It tasted fresh and was cooked perfectly. The sushi was underwhelming. It came with four pieces and there was so little fish in there, I'm not even sure if there was any.
Tokya Ya isn't a place I would come seek out ramen or sushi for. But for times when I'm nearby and am sick of dim sum, I'd probably check this place out again.
Their ramen are a bit bland compared to authentic Japanese ramen places. However, you can always add some salt for taste. Service on the other hand was great. The green tea they serve was always topped off. The waiter accidentally spilled some ramen soup onto my friend's iphone. As a token of their apology, he gave us free ice cream Mochi. The Mochi was Superb!!!
Overall, the ramen needed some work but service was great!
Decided to try this place out because it was close to my bf's house and the food selection looked pretty good. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but the workers were welcoming. The restaurant was also well-kept. After browsing the menu, I decided on the Roast Pork Ramen while my bf ordered Grilled Eel Rice. We also got Salmon Cucumber Roll in addition to Japanese Pork Buns.
Starting off with our appetizers, my bf and I found the Salmon Cucumber Roll to be average. There wasn't much rice wrapped around each sushi, which made the pieces appear smaller. Taste was okay. The Japanese Pork Buns, on the other hand, were very delightful. The bread was soft on the outside while the meat was sweet and tender on the inside. Our eyes lit up when we ate it. I highly recommend this if you want to taste a party in your mouth!
Moving on to my Roast Pork Ramen, I must say I really enjoyed the broth. It was flavorful and the dish also came with an egg, seaweed, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, bok choy and roast pork. The roast pork didn't absorb much flavor and was a tad dry but it didn't bother me too much after I dipped it in soup. Overall, this dish was an 8.5/10. I think with the addition of corn, it would've been complete.
Lastly, I highly recommend the Grilled Eel Rice because it's eel paradise. For only $9.50, you get served a generous amount of eel drizzled with a delicious sweet sauce plus avocado. Basically perfection! I have always paid double the price for eel over rice but I am glad to have found a new spot to satisfy my eel cravings for a more affordable price!
It is no doubt that I'm super pleased with Tokyo Ya's food, ambiance, service, cleanliness, everything! I'm actually surprised that there's not a lot of people who come here to dine in and enjoy this wonderful experience. Everyone seemed to be ordering takeout but don't worry, you guys have earned two new customers who will be making visits frequently!
You guys. Tokyo-Ya is a great little ramen house in our corner of brooklyn. They are new and if you aren't paying close attention to the sign, you could miss it – only says Tokyo-Ya in english once and it's in small letters.
The service is very friendly- tea when you sit down, they check on you frequently, though you may have to ask for water (not unusual). When you get the check, some gum comes along with it.
They have a wonderful wonderful pork bone broth ramen that hits the spot. To me, broth is probably the single most important part of a bowl of ramen to me, and this has that creamy, savory, pork-boney flavor, DOWN! The noodles themselves were also pretty wonderful–yellow, springy, chewy. I think though the flavor is reminiscent of a great ramen place like Ippudo, Totto, or chuko, it's possible that the broth might get better over time and develop a little more depth of flavor. (PS. Not salty enough for you? use the soy that's on the table. hallo!!!)
The reason I give this a 4 and not a 5 is because I think there is some room for improvement on the toppings– though I loved the wood ear mushrooms, flavor of the egg, and scallions — not crazy about the chashu/ roast pork slices (though my boyfriend was), just felt they could be maybe more buttery textured, more smokey, perhaps…more…bellyfat… and slightly thinner sliced. It comes also with nori and naruto (fish cake) but since I'm not a fan of either (anywhere), took them out. They used choy (good) and snap peas which I like but don't associate with ramen necessarily- the springy taste of the peas competed with the broth, instead of complimenting it.
They could incorporate things like corn, garlic, and the whites of the scallion. AND, though I'm aware there's debate over the subject, I prefer my egg to be a little softer on the inside. But I'm splitting hairs here. The broth and the noodle are what matter most. And they're great.
All in all, Tokyo-Ya beats so many other places in Brooklyn, and it's in our neck of the woods, so I'll be back, a lot. and OH! And it's cheap dudes. Ramen for two, plus pork buns and a can of soda = $18.25. WHUUUUUT!!! EVERYONE go there now. Because I'd hate for them to go out of business!!
Pretty solid for a Chinese own ramen joint. The price is very reasonable for the ramen and the noodles are pretty authentic.
The broth cannot compare to your Ippudo, although the price is half that as well. The lunch special for $7.5 and comes with four pieces of sushi. Why not?!
Although noodle wise, I still take a hand pulled noodle any day.
We got the Cold noodles and Tokyo ya noodles.
Excellent server.
Tea refilled without asking.
I came for dinner on a weekday.
The Tokyo ya ramen is a favorite, and it was recommended by the server.
All I can say that it was definitely better tasting than the Chinese cold noodles.
If you are into sour and spicy, this one is for you.
I think the best is to come during their lunch specials cause it looks worth it.
