Finally made it here, I've been wanting to try it because of the great reviews and the close location. Went for lunch, it was fairly empty so we were seated quickly. They have a good deal for the lunch special $7 for two appetizers and a main course. I ordered the salad, spring rolls and chicken pad thai plus the lychee iced tea which I was curious about. The food came out very quickly, within 10 minutes of ordering. The dishes were a little small for what you typically get but I was ok with it given it was a lunch special. The salad and spring rolls were fine and the pad thai was just ok, not anything amazing, the chicken was undercooked and the pad thai was missing something overall. I liked the lychee iced tea, a little sweet for my liking but interesting taste. I wasn't was impressed as the other reviewers on here but I will give this place a second chance in the near future.
After visiting many mediocre Thai restaurants in New York City then coming home and re – trying Tom Yum, I have to say that it's still one of my favorites. The restaurant is small, but you don't feel cramped. It's also a byob! Their curry puffs are some of the best I've ever had. The red curry and the drunken noodles are also both exceptional, flavorful, and generously portioned.
My local Thai restaurant. The place is small so I usually order to go. They prepare the food very quickly and it's always fresh and tasty. I love their drunken noodles and curry duck. It's a convenient place to order food from since it's so close to our house.
Went with friends to tom yum for dinner-we got 2 salads with peanut sauce, spring rolls. I got the drunken noodles with shrimp and squid (delicious), my friiend had pork with garlic sauce, my friend had sweet and sour shrimp. Service was very prompt-would recommend and return.
I tried this place twice this weekend & both times it was great! The service was spot-on & the serving sizes are excellent. Chicken satay appetizer was moist & tender. The spicy wings are not spicy but have a tasty sweet sauce & are addictive! We also tried the spring rolls, pad thai, pad krapow, jungle curry, & the fried ice cream. We enjoyed all of it. Lots of fresh flavors! I am psyched that a new thai place opened up. I will definitely go back. Check it out!!
I'm not going to serve up any major Haterade here, but I really don't think Tom Yum is a true 4.5 star restaurant in comparison to other Thai places. The food is respectable and the service is gracious, but I haven't been wowed by anything here. I think it's one of the better places to eat in the Demarest/Closter/Haworth/Dumont area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. Pimaan, which is about 10 minutes away from Tom Yum, is a much better option if you want a better array of flavors and dishes to choose from. As a neighborhood takeout joint, I would give Tom Yum 4 stars — all the noodles and apps and curries are reliably tasty — but this is not a spectacular place.
